And considering kali's TQ release is probably gana slip into november/december(kali-2 HA!) its basicly a year for a content patch.
Mabye im just sour from npcing so much lately but seriously this is pure utter crap. I can under stand quaterly releases or something hell even 2 releases a year might be fine but at this rate its just months of being told good things are coming and then having to wait some more.Like i pay month too be told of "up coming cool things" *sigh*.

Last I heard they were trying to get Kali 1 deployed before december. We'll see how that turns out. But after that, the cluster will probably be very unstable anyway, and people wont be happy still...
But I hope it makes it to the test server soon. Im going to help out testing it to the best of my abilities, and I think everyone should give a few hours of their time to report things that doesnt work.

I'm willing to wait for a free expansion every year or half year. There's a tremendous amount of work going into coding and testing a game expansion, as any industry member could tell you, and I would rather they got it right rather than releasing it early and bugged. I'm not saying they shouldn't be accountable to their milestones, but I'm willing to wait for a quality, free expansion. _______________________________________________

Would be nice if they could. This is said in every MMO and the thing is fixing one bug creates another. As a programmer I can tell you that if we fixed all the bugs before releasing new content we'd all be using Tandy 1000s right now playing soliaire.
The proper way to do it is fix bugs while you release new content.

Get used to it.
CCP's releases have always (without a SINGLE exception) been at least a month late, and things are getting worse rather then the promised better.
Kali 1: december or january, 2: april or may, 3: december 2007.
Instead of:
1: q2 2006 2: q4 2006 3: q2/3 2007
But ok, fine with me, if they deliver. The name certainly is promising: "Revelations"

anyway, you dont seem to understand much, and your demands place you in an unflattering demographic. xeom, may i call you that? do you have any posts about lag or other issues that would prevent kali from being deployed recently? that may have helped influenced the devs? that along with others in the community, the small number of folks posting on these forums, may have actually caused delay to allow the devs to really dig into the bugs?
or maybe they just have a plan and your a spoiled little brat? that sounds more like it no hate! no hate! |

Kali 1 should indeed hopefully release in december or january, but Kali 2 will not see the light before july or september and Kali 3 will proberly be done by mid 2008.
So that will be about one year of one cubic meter courier and 8-10 different combat missions. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute |

WoW hasn't had a proper expansion out yet, a few content boosts but nothing even a 1/10 of what eve has been given.
EQ2 got rushed buggy exspansions and rip-off $5 adventure packs that were little more then existing content with a new skin.
EVE is better than most i've played even if kali is running a little late. -----

Yeah, lets rush kali.
After all, shiva was rushed, and that worked out well. A week of free ship returns, contraband getting people mass-executed, a *giant* memory leak which made the game all but unplayable without constantly restarting it... I could go on, but I assume you get the point.
I could care less when kali comes out, provided it comes out done, with proper QA.

But i do have a problem with the way CCP releases content.Waiting very long times just to lump everything in one patch.
All this does is lead to more bugs because so much code/content being added at one time. They should have cut Kali-1 into pieces and released it over serveral months.
"And what cool things" -New map -New scaning -New Ships -Exploration -Ect

Except that many of these things are necessary to do others. The new map and scanning are needed for exploration, and exploration is needed for boosters and Invention.
So, really, the only thing they could add now would be the new ships, but they haven't been tested - we don't even have their stats - so that would be bad(tm).

Eve is fine at the moment, in my opinion. I'm abit excited for some new stuff coming out, but it's hardly like I've got nothing to do ingame, and I've never run into any bugs that would ruin my game enough for it to sour me on Eve as a whole.

If by "fine" you mean about as stable as Hannibal Lecter then you're right. As much as I'd like to see the new content I'd rather have the exsisting code work ffs. No game ruining bugs? Lucky you. Try 5+ node crashes in a single day while you're trying to wage a war.

So basically if they had put the effort in to get the ships out first they would be done and released by now, and then they could release the new map and scanning, and then exploration, and then boosters and invention? No way, that sounds awesome.
What Xeom is saying if I understand him right is that some of us play EVE for what's going on in game. Some of us are perhaps disinterested in the game right now, but keep our subs going for the cool new things that CCP keeps claiming are coming out any day now. In reality they are stringing those who are waiting for the cool things along, and doing it on purpose to sustain their revenue (not that they're intentionally delaying their content, but they knew full well that they wouldn't be able to release Kali 1 on time awhile ago, and now are confirming it... tbh, I'm surprised they've already pushed the date back as far as December, figured they would have tried to hold out on November for a while.)
The people who are keeping their subs going in anticipation for Kali and the changes it will bring into gameplay should just set a long skill and let their subs lapse until Kali really comes out if they are bored with the current state of EVE.
If you are reading a post by this character, it's probably because I'm too lazy to select my main. Try not to lose any sleep over it, mkay? |

It will have lots of bugs when it comes, but log on the test server and help find them. It doesnt take long to run a few missions, explore some of the complexes, try out the system scanning and then file a bug report.

It is 1 of the selling points of Eve, no charges except the monthly fee. It is not an excuse to delay the release of more content.
We pay a monthly fee for :
1. a good game 2. good service, stable servers 3. regular content patches ( 2 per year is not too much to ask imho ) 4. bug fixes 5. everything else I forgot

I would have to agree wholeheartedly!
I got bored of playing eve after about 3 months, so I left to play Guildwars Factions...
6 months later I decide to sign up again... and STILL no new content.
Most MMO's release a new expansion/chapter/edition every 3 months, 6 months at the tops!..
Not only that, after 6 months of being away I read that there continues to be server issues bug issues and over extended down times and exploiters.. (which CCP Appear to not care about)
People may say "I would rather them fix current bugs and issues before Kali".. but its been, as said, over 10 months!.. how much longer will it take?
So after just 2 weeks into my renewed subscription I have canceld, yet again.
And now Guildwars Nightfall is about to be released, yes, thats two WHOLE Games that ANET will have developed and released (with stunning success) in the time that CCP have taken to stabalise their server..
Its not just Guildwars either, look at the content expansions that WoW has had.. City of Heroes, Everquest, RF-O even the terrible DDO will have released TWO new chapters.. then take a look at the new MMO's due to be released... YES, companies have developed WHOLE NEW GAMES in the time CCP have taken to release... anything that is nearly as substantial.
Will Kali be worth the wait? I look down at the list of what is expected in KALI and I think... meh! I feel sorry for all the people who loyally subscribe with not just one or two, but often 3 or 4 accounts, I consider the enourmous fortunes that they have spent and I am utterly disapointed. I know everyone is getting very excited about it, but after nearly 1 year of nothing its pretty hard to not get excited about ANY change in eve.
so, what about after kali, how long before new content after that?.. another year?.. we already know that the next expansion for guildwars will be next april, and that they have already spent 6 months developing it... What have CCP done?..
I hope CCP do something drastic to keep up with the MMO Industry, the market is WIDE open for a fresh new Sci-fi MMO.

Edited by: Athren Soulsteal on 11/10/2006 18:06:47 One of the things the newer players may not know or seem to forget is that Kali is not "New" content. It is simply adding the content that was supposed to be in EVE when it went gold.
So we are not paying for new thing but for what we ordered. Imagine ordering a Pizza and it come out without the cheese, then you ask 4 years later and they say.. We will get that cheese on it soon, for now just be happy you got most of the Pizza,... thats kali.
Of course the Fanbois are all saying.. Cheese you dont need cheese we got crust and thats all we need for the food fight.

My problem is once again CCP is lacking the foresight on the new content, which is primarily focused on the new 0.0 regions, which will get monopolized by a few big alliances, when 80% of the playerbase is not in 0.0.
Essentially people who do not live eat and breath 0.0 are gonna go like 2 years or more without any real new content. CCP needs to rethink this.

It's been said many times in game and on the forums that empire space is merely training for 0.0. It's alot more accessible than the 80% of players or whatever that percentage actually is believes.
I can personally attest to this, considering a month ago I thought I was a year away in skills to be able to compete in 0.0 due to skills alone.
Instead, now I'm in a alliance in LV territory helping delpoy our first POS's for sov in a system.
Also, 0.0 is empty, not packed with bloodthirsty killers; I've been killed out here once due to unfriendlies in the past 30 days. I died more in "safe" empire spaces than I do here.
Anyway, not to derail, CCP's FREE!!!!!!!!!!! content releases have been absolutely outstanding, considering I can at the latest, usually log in around 6 in the evening (CST) and play on a moderately stable server with little to no serious bugs. This is coming from a 4 year EQ player used to essentially week-long downtimes, unstable servers, massive bugs, and the like even on NON-CONTENT patch days. This isn't even saying you typically had to dish out $30 for an expansion.

You might not know this, but any other MMORPG charges for expansions. CCP releases expansion free of charge.
Greetings, CyberGhost.
Why are you complaining about content updates, didn't you just start playing?
There is at least a couple of years' worth of content in EVE for a new player; and by all accounts you shouldn't start complaining about the amount of things to do untill you're at least a year into the game, unless of course you're just trolling. ... |

Mission runners seem to be also shafted. How hard would it be to release a patch every month adding a handful of new missions. The last patch we were told that the old missions were being removed so as to put a system in that a coder didnt need to be used to create new missions. Well where are the all these new easy to code missions ?
I was spoilt on EQ2 , new content every month or nearabouts. Even DDO took only 2 months to bring a whole new auction system in ... in same time CCP cant even crank out a contract system. Sounds like to me theres a bottleneck in the system, maybe they should poach some poeple from WOW/EQ2 to help them join the other MMO elites in terms of content patches.
I mean Kali 1 is like a couple of new ships & a scanning system. Dubious "content" if you ask me.
EVE survives and thrives due to simply no other space alternatives out there, no ifs and buts.

Okay now, telling they arent realeasing not enough content is 1 thing, and yer right. But telling they dont fix bugs, dont ban exploiters ( if they feel needed ) is not true. 2000+ accounts were banned last month. Server stability is increasing, and imho not bad at all atm.
Furthermore their service is the best in the industry. Each time I make a petition, they reply me within 5 minutes. No other mmorpg I played before comes even close.

I just want to add my thoughts, and that is that if it takes longer then 6 months to bring new content something is wrong.

I usually stay out of topics like this, but most of you seem to forget the you are paying CCP to play this game, not the other way around. If you paid a cleaner to clean your house, and they didnt do it, would you continue to pay them anyway?
- that aside I do love EVE and spend a lot of my time on it
Complaining doesnt solve anything here, yet people do it day in day out.

Lol cyberghost, if youre a new player, why is it so important for you for new content. There should be plenty content you havent even touched on yet.
Anyways, the dominant discussion in here about if were paying for content releases, not paying for content releases, content releases are free, no other mmorg has free content releases and so forth are utterly stupid, and has been debated to death on ... err .. 1000 other threads. We pay a monthly fee, CCP provides fixes, support, servers and occasionally content releases. Didn't you guys now this when you signed up??. At least, after a month after signing up you should know.
The only issue really in terms of content releases, is: "Are they coming frequently enough to keep the game interesting mostly for older players (also newbies of course, but to a lesser extent as they will still have plenty to explore)". In my opinion yes they are. Thats where Eve is different from other mmorg's. Eve is not about the content, its about the sandbox, the content are mainly created by the players. Real content is not the new map features in Kali for instance, sure its gonna be a nice feature, and will be fun for an hour. Real content is what the players create, like the war in 9uy for example or the war between Bob and ASCN, corps setting up POS claiming sov, war decs in empire, i could go on for ever.
Sure, content releases more often and more would be nice, but it is not ESSENTIAL. Of more importance is keeping the sandbox clean, i.e. no server stabilty smudge in there :-). Thats something that really ticks of people. I would much prefer that CCP fixed the problems before adding content, like the cyno/cov problem (been in there for about a year), POS instability at sieges, node crashes, drone and fighter problems and so forth. But before you complain, you really should read a few dev blogs. It doesnt work like that. CCP has people doing both content and fixes at the same time. That does not mean that CCP would be able to shift focus entirely from fixes to content or vice versa, people skills are involved here, as CCP has stated again and again.
To summarize, if content is so important you, go make some. If server stability is important to you, well lets hope for the best :-)

Just my view.
exactly.
@ OP: could you do better? its not as easy as saying "we want to add feature X". can you program a 3D MMORPG? no? huh... then what makes you think you know better? it's alot of hard work, it's alot of code, and there's gonna be alot of bugs and data choke points (i.e. things that will cause lag or loading times) that need to be ironed out.
i agree, the fact that CCP adds huge content patches once or twice a year is a little frustrating, but it's just the same as adding tiny patches every month that only add a little bit of extra stuff - only this way everything is intergrated propperly and balancing is easier. ========================================== Iy |

We pay monthly to be entertained each and every month. We donÆt pay to entertain others or CCP.
ItÆs as simple as throwing a few sheckels into a hat and saying ôDance monkey boy dance!ö The monkey boy entertains us because we paid him. Some how with EVE the monkey boy (CCP) has convinced us to pay him and then dance for him, we are paying to entertain not be entertained and how and why we continue to pay and dance for the monkey boy is mind boggling.
However I do know why we do it, itÆs because the Monkey boy said that if we just do it for a little longer we would see him do something truly amazing. We continue to pay to entertain in EVE for that exact reason, because CCP has dangled a carrot in front of us and said, we will finally be adding in all the things we promised when EVE went live.
Oh BTW they lied, look at Revelations (Kali) and what they are offering. Instead of giving us Branding and reverse engineering they are using smoke and mirrors and trying to pass off Invention and rigging as a suitable replacement, they are not.
I have quit EVE 3 times (and donated all my stuff to my corp) because of these tactics, so far I have not seen anything on the test server to persuade me to keep playing for EVE 0.7
You may consider it odd but to me if IÆm paying for the Monkey Boy to dance, CCP should be saying ôdo you want to see a jig or river dance?ö

Comparing random FPS games to a MMOG and then arguing about price is asinine at best. Please reveal to me the home computer that is capable of running an instance of the EVE universe. One of, if not the, largest gaming clusters on the planet is having trouble with it at the moment.
Originally by: Athren Soulsteal However I do know why we do it, itÆs because the Monkey boy said that if we just do it for a little longer we would see him do something truly amazing. Smoke and mirrors requires a distinct lack of transparency. CCP has been very transparent in what they're doing with regard to development of EVE.
Of course, with transparency comes the risk that some people will confuse thoughts and ideas on future directions for 'promises'.
Originally by: Athren Soulsteal I have quit EVE 3 times (and donated all my stuff to my corp) because of these tactics, so far I have not seen anything on the test server to persuade me to keep playing for EVE 0.7

The fact of the matter is that your mere pittance of a monthly payment does not give you the right or ability to dictate to CCP how the game should be developed. The game is theirs; if you don't like it, don't play. Your subscription fee grants you the privilege of playing; nothing more.

What i find funny on the forums is that some people, especially in threads like this one, give the impression of really disliking the game. Then you look up their details and they have been in the game over a year I think to myself "why are you still paying" If it were as bad as some people make out then it would be like a person walking home after work every day and always going in to the same fast food shop and saying "You're burgers in here are rubbish. the meat is off the bun is always stale and theres never enough mayonnaise. And the burger shop down the road is cheaper." as you hand over your ú5 just like you did yesterday.

Still I wish CCP would rush out more things and make the server grind to a halt almost every night, then I could moan on the forums instead of beating my children in the celler like I have to do now.

It's shaping up nicely. It still needs some work IMO, but the basics are all there, it just needs polish and tweakage.

I see the point of the original poster and of many others. The EVE Online development cycle is sometimes not comparable with other top quality MMORPGs. I think I can see some of the reasons:
1) The EVE team is small compared to the WOW or EQ2 ones, so when they are busy doing something like preparing a new cluster for China, they cannot invest the usual amount of time in developing new content. 2) being Kali a consistent code change, at some point the Devs decided that, for easier quality control, any other modification to the game would have been done on the Kali code, and not on the EVE code running on Tranquility. This made so that a lot of changes that should have come in the past months with small patches, will arrive all together with Kali (as it actually happened in the past with previous expansion)
In any case, I cannot understand the tone somebody uses to discuss. If someone is not very satisfied from something, he should be free to say so without being attacked.

Let's say the gang system is full of bugs. Rather than waste the time to fix them all, they decide to start over and implement a new gang system from scratch. Yes, it will introduce new bugs and yes, it will be a "new feature", but it's the right way forward in a lot of cases. We do this often in developing EVEMon.

Probably just looks that way because most don't include VAT in their published prices. The average is $15 a month, and EVE is also $15 a month.
