Is it currently possible to join an NPC corp? I didn't think it was, then the other day I met a player who was a member of Deep Core Mining Inc. This isn't a default corp AFAIK, does this mean it is possible? If so, what are the requirements?

By leaving a player corp, you are automatically transferred to an NPC corp.

Is this NPC chosen randomly? How can someone join DCM which isn't a default corp?

I think it used to give you a prompt which would allow you to select which npc corp to join (limited to your faction's npc corps)... However, they either got rid of that or I'm making it up since it dumps you into a seemingly randomly selected corp (not a noob corp) when you leave a player run corp now.

There are only 2 NPC corps you can be in. The first is the noob corp you start in and the second is the npc corp based on your race/bloodline. There is no way to join any other corp. I am a minmatar sebiestor so if I quit a player corp I drop into the Sebiestor corp. After I left the noob starter corp that is the only npc corp I can be in.
It used to be possible to join other NPC corps if you had a high enough standing but that was 2+ years ago it is no longer possible to be in any npc corp other than the started corp or your bloodlines corp.

No, once you leave the noob corp you can never go back.
You can no longer join NPC corps (it used to be possible to join any NPC corp with enough standings). If you resign from, or are removed from a player corp, you'll go to one of a dozen default NPC corps, such as Deep Core Mining, Alistra, The Scope, etc etc.

Its race and profession related.
For every noob corp, there is a non-noob npc corp.
For example, if you are gallente, and start in fed navy academy, if you join a player corp and then leave, you will end up in 'the scope'.
I think if you start in university of Caille, you will end up in aliastra (sp?)
So any character can only ever be in 2 npc corps - noob corp + the other one
Bound to be a list of these somewhere

Wrong, Gallente, regardless of school end up in the Scope. Intaki end up in alaistra and Jin-mei end up in the gouron investment bank.
As for the other faction, for Caldari its Deep Core Mining for Deites and Caldari Provisions Civire and Perkone for Achura.
For Amarrians the Khanid go into the Ministry of war, True amarrians into Vizam, not sure where Nu-Kunni go.
For Minmatar Sebiesters end up in the sebiestor tribe, Brutors in the Brutor teibe and i have no clue where the rest of them go.
Its too bad they removed the option to join NPC corps, my other accounts was in roden shipyards for a while. -----

You can only join an NPC corp from the default character creation screen. IE if you chose fighting or mining or whatever.
You used to be able to join specific NPC cores, but this was waaaaaay back in the day.
