We've all been on the trade channel and seen endless reels of posts trying to sell something, with people trying to sell their items. Sometimes it can seem like mayhem with huge ads that take up the entire screen.
A few people have tried giving out url's on thier posts but because of the inconvience of getting the to the webpage, (especially if the url is long), it hasnt been a great success.
So how about making all url's in game clickable from the chat sceen. This will not only help reduce the spam on trade but also be easy way to view in-game sites that someone had given u through the chat screen.
So intead of seeing this spammed every 30 sec....
Quote:
**Loot SALE**
1 x Extruded Heat Sink (1.099 Dam mod, 9.9 ROF) 2 x Thermal Exhaust (1.077 Dam mod, 8.25 ROF) - 5 x C4S Coiled Circuit (1.084 Dam mod, 9.00 ROF) 2 x `Skadi` Coolant System - (1.091 Dam Mod, 9.75 ROF)
5 x Lif Fueled Afterburner (30%) - 2mil 2 x Monopropellant Hyrazine (26.25%) - 600k
5 x Shield Boost Amplifier (30% bonus) - 1mil
1x 220MM Prototype (Projectile, DMG 1.4375x, ROF 3.75) 1x 220MM Medium Scout (Projectile, DMG 1.5x, ROF 3.75) 2x 425MM Prototype (Projectile, DMG 1.725x, ROF 4.20) **Convo**
You'll get a nice small ad....
Quote:
WTS: Many rare Heatsinks/Afterburners/Projectile Turrets - Click HERE for full list and pricing. Please contact me if interested :)
Now this way all the people interested those types of items can go and view the whole list of loot. While others, who arnt searching for those items dont get spammed.
This cant be too hard to add maybe in one of the "hotfixes".
Anyway, let me know what u think

A nice idea.
Sadly I think that the adverts that win will likely still be those where the user sees what they want, and prices, there and then.
Sadly I have to say I hate the last anti-spam change they made, and if anything it has just made people make sure they only paste the exact same thing and press enter a few seconds later.
It does massively inconvenience fast typing in a fight also as means of communicating.
I like the idea though. Another nice thing would actually be Corp Adverts in some in-game market section or something, where they could put for-sale information, and try to encourage people to buy, but using the market interfaces rather then masses of crap on trade.

Only thing that's going to cut down on spam in the trade channel is moderating it, and gagging, kicking out of the channel, or banning from the game ppl who overspam.

Have you tried copying the channels to clipboard?
You get a timestamped chat-log which you can put into wordpad and search for any items you might want. This is quite labour-saving.
URLs would make this a lot harder for me.
Its not like the trade channel is for chatting or anything. They're not really spam either those ads are the reason people go to the trade channel.

Ahem.
"**************** WTS **********************
Partial Hull Conversion Cargo Expander
27.44% Extra cargo space !!!!!!!!!!!!
Only 12 million ISK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pickup in Yulai
******************WTS*******************"
That, sir, is spam. And I've seen even worse
The lists are more forgivable, but even so, if someone's got a list of stuff that's too big to fit in my window (and I don't maximise the window), I will block him so I can see the other stuff, and he's losing a potential customer. A short, sharp, 1- or 2-line advert (***WTS*** Partial-hull, local-hull upgrades, convo me for details) will be far more effective.
Unfortunately, too many people in the trade channel have been brought up to believe that he who shouts loudest, wins.In the real world, he who shouts loudest just ****es everybody off with all the noise.

Perhaps add ajustable options for the chan operators to specify the amount of:
a) carriage returns per message (lines) (trade channel could be for instance tops 2 or 3)
b) max characters per message
c) max amount of messages per second... eg 0.1 making you only able to type 1 message every 10 seconds...
or something like that... and yes a url tag to make url's shorter would be wonderful too, Amin, good idea.

Yes, some people, go overboard with thier ads, selling 1 item with a nice border going around it while the ad takes up half of the screen ( and i have my trade channel size to the max height of the client). One guy today even made a nice picture to sell his ad, funny though it was its still spam.
With my clickable url idea coupled with what wamingo has suggested would work well. As those who need to have long ads will need to use a url and a in-game compatible web page.

clickable links in chat channels that bring up the item's info window would be nice too ________________________________

Maybe instead of using the trade channel someone could set up a ingame trade website that people can place static adverts on under different headings with a small search engine...
Infact i might...
ps. Sibelius is actually correct though it is not spam as it is in the correct place and it is the content and the fact that something is Unsolicited that makes it spam ie if they posted these adverts in local then it would be spam. It might be rude and it might be lacking in consideration but it is not spam.

Unfortunatly this is not true. Because the impact of the advert is what gets you the sale. and in a place where there is only text and no sound pictures or real movement I'm affraid that these peoples adverts have more impact especially for people who only occasionally come to trade for just one item
and becuase the advert you displayed had little content and alot of space it means it would spend more time on screen and therefore in the fast moving trade channel it would be easier to read thus selling better than the simple oneliner
thinking about it though if you had to pay per character for the trade channel...
Really a chat channel is not the best way to approach this kind of thing...

Some quality Ideas here guys! I like the clickable urls. I like the limit on lines. and I like the idea of a website to post ads under catagories. Kinda like the forums though more organized. Wish I had the power to put the ideas in action

URLs already can be clicked in chat, but only in text-mode. I stay on text mode all the time in trade because it's the only defense against the disappearing text bugs. However they do need to fix it so we can use the tags, so as to hide the url behind a shorter text link such as "Click Here" as opposed to "http://www.pak.ca/" ______________

I was just trying out text mode in the trade channel. The only problem I have with that is it makes things hard to read/follow. Where does the one guys stuff finish and the others start kind of thing, unless you have the trade chan in a big window spanning your monitor.
Kinda cool though that you can click the links :D Thanx for that

There are three modes-- text only, small portrait, and large portrait. Click the little icon that only has the horizontal lines. ______________

Trade channel is a horrible mess, we need a totally new trade system. Maybe using a system similar to courior missions where the seller marks the items he wishes to trade and the aprox price he/she is looking for. The items then go up onto a board that people can view from a station. If the buyer is intrested they can either buy the items right out or contact the advertiser to discuss pricing.

Yes, and no. All we *need* is someone moderating it, and blocking the idiots that turn it into a horrible mess.

Ummm... hey you guys do know that URLs are clickable in the chat. Above someone mentions that there is a text mode. Next time you guys see a full on url http and everything switch to textmode and double click on it a few times. It will load in the ingame browser.
Kinda cool, huh?

Anyone here remember the buletin board in Elite? we need somthing like that...
But clickable links would be handy anyhew, and not just in the trade chan. A good stop-gap solution. ---

or another idea i don't know how many have played or play magic the gathering online.
butthey used to get this problem all the time with spam trade channels they used a kinda irc/eve chat chan. now they solved this by using a single post.
it was one page where somone could enter what they where after and it would list there name. and also the items that they wished to sell. it stopped all the spam. they also put in a serch function so people could serch on the page now if people would like to know more about this idea let me know and i will get some pics of how it works.
but i know it worked for MTGO.
