I understand that sometimes your trying to get stuff done and the appearence of a pirate distrupts your plans and ****es you off. However lot's of people seem to have gone way beyond irritated to out and out hate. The moronic smack talkers aside pirates bring a lot to this game. Several times I have been mining( shudder) when I had to and gotten a call about incoming pirates and thought "thank God". If nothing else focus your anger into a frigate and a gun and go get you some justice.
PS If you've ever had to guard a jump in point or gate and been so bored you prayed for something to shoot then you can at least understand a little why people go pirate.

Genuine pirates are a valuable part of the game - or would be, if there was any sensible way for them to practise the art. Trouble is, there's been so much griefing going on - either by pirates fed up of not being able to commit piracy, or more likely by people who just like griefing - that genuine piracy got swamped underneath it all, and everyone gets tarred with the same brush.

Baldour has pretty much the "why" of it.... SOME pirates are actually good players... and add a much needed content, excitement to the game. Trouble is that most pirates (or all) have been soundly tarred with the brush of "griefer". This has been brought on by the actions of a few poor players with immature attitudes towards others.. their idea of a good time is causing as much misery as possible, use any advantage wether its reasonable or not  .. couple that with poor game mechanics in PvP and you end up with a few idiots making a poor rep for a number of probably decent players who dance on the darkside. It's a shame but human nature is such that if a bully can take advantage to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings they will in any social setting.

i dont hate the pirates...they are vital to the game tho they may make me mad from time to time u just have to rememeber their trying to have fun like the rest of us

The main purpose of pirates is to take your hard earned ISK and steal it. In the process they most likely destroyed your ship and podkilled you. You just lost hours (best case) or weeks (worst case) of play. You are not going to be a happy camper. You might tell yourself that it is just a game and piracy is part of the game but you are still going to be a bit bitter.
Now add to this bitterness the fact that you probably were too lagged out to respond to (or maybe even see) the attack and you start feeling cheated. If the pirate also decides to tease you and 'wallow in you misery', he quickly stops being a necessary part of the game and starts being a griefer. The pirate no longer adds spice and excitement to the game but is instead destroying the enjoyment of others and is wasting their time.

Pirates are fine. Whiny cheating pirates suck. Unfortunately most of the pirates in Eve's history have been the cheating whiny kind.

Is that enough carebear whining for you, because I could spam and troll the forums like the lamer rates if you want me to?
I don't just hate pirates, I loathe and despise them but that is what gives me the shivers when I creep out of 1.0 space.
