Its not as if everything was perfect in WH space (assembling T3's pls) but we certainly didn't deserve what we've got:
--Sig ID's nearly the same AVV-KVV-WVV-PVV (one missed keystroke and I'm warping to the wrong sig) did I mention they ALL have the same suffix? --POS fitting issues, this seems to be a problem all over Eve, but with POSes the ONLY way to live in a WH it hurts us more than most, hope you get a handle on this soon --The black background for probing is nice... the inability to see my pinned sigs on that background is killing my eyes --As several other threads have reported the spawns have changed in various Ladar and Grav sites, I still need to check the various anoms and radars and Mags to see if they have changed as well
Generally in Eve if things are broken we appreciate it when they get fixed (Tac overlay not working in map is now fixed, TY) these fixes don't require a dev blog to explain because they are rather obvious. Changes to things that players use generally do require explination, (see Super changes, hybrids, destroyer fixes... et al)
So can someone PLEASE explain the reasoning behind THIS: EVE API * The Jumps API no longer shows jumps into wormhole space. in the Deployment thread many questions were asked and answered but not this one... Greyscale came close... but I'm still waiting for an answer: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=38799&p=9 POST #179
This combined with the other changes is making continued life for my small corp in WH space rather alot harder than it used to be. I just don't understand... the one place where small-holding was actually possible in Eve just became a nightmare of uncertainty, day in and day out. We just don't have the numbers to be probing and scanning 23/7, at least with the jump intel we had an idea of how secure/unsecured our WH was... I'm not asking for a PVP-free zone (wouldn't live there if I could) but the ability to have a modicum of intel allowed us to face intruders (large and small) with some confidence, and avoid blobfests.
Jumps are shown everywhere else in eve including the furthest reaches of Null space, so why did WH space get special attention?
Before I forget one MASSIVE POSITIVE note... Luv the Corp bookmarks, really, really useful in WH space, I just wish "save location" was changed back to "create bookmark" but that's just a nit-pick thing.

This is how WH space was designed. The export API (a later addition to the game) broke the design.
WH space is now working as designed.
I lived in WH space solo (that is one pleyer 3 alts) for about 6 months, back in the start, and staying current on your systems connections and the way home to normal space is part of the game. A fun part once you embrace it. And, come on, it takes -+ an hour tops for one person, usually much less. Witht he addition of corp bookmarks you are still way better off than back in the start.

This is precisely as it should be, not only in WH space but elsewhere. Static Mapper, like local, provides intel that the player has not worked for and should not possess. Where is the information coming from? Are there unseen drones wandering all WHs taking pictures of every jump and rat kill? or is there some interstellar edict requiring all pod pilots to report their activities? are we on an ASBO? have we all been electronically dog-tagged?
The next step should be for CCP to remove the log of rat kills. The only intel that should be publicly available is player ship and pod kills, presumably public knowledge released by the insurance companies.
As for this making it impossible for small corps to survive in WH space... HTFU. If anything it makes it safer. Interlopers from known space are less likely to trouble your system if they do not know what is going on there. As for those of us who live here... if you cannot assess threats in your own system without Static Mapper then maybe you should go back out to local-land. |

Why in the world would ANY paying customer be told they "should" be bug reporting a game? Bug reports are a service provided to CCP by their paid QA employees, not their customers. That's like paying for a sandwhich and then being told to make it yourself. |

Do you want the problem solved quickly? Best thing to do is to report it through proper channels, not get all enraged on the internet and spew a bunch of garbage on a forum. A central reporting tool is crucial for developers and planners to rapidly set goals and fix them in a timely manner.

In some ways I think it makes you safer that jumps aren't reported any more. As someone who has a fun past-time of finding WH's, stalking the residents and ganking them, this has always been a VERY useful tool to me. I can easily tell if it's worth my time based on the jumps and sleepers killed.
So yes, you may have less info on whether your home is safe, but the predators have less info on where you are, too. |

Ugh... if you've seen me post at all you'll know I go off about things people propose that would nerf wormhole space. That being said...
I have to admit, even though the lack of jump intel was a bit of a surprise and can hurt in some degree... it's universal and makes sense in Anoikis space. Seriously, how are you keeping tracks of jumps through a transitory cosmic hiccup in the first place? Gates, sure, they're tied into a network. Wormholes...
Here's what I see... we're losing the free intel of seeing how active a system is and at what times of day it's active. This was really REALLY useful information for a variety of things, such as planning system assaults, etc. Now, if you want to do it you have to do it yourself. Get your cloaky into the system unseen, find a comfy place around the pos with DScan humming away softly in the background, put on a little Mozart and observe. As you see people, put them in your contacts list. Take notes. Watch. Wait.
Part of me hates that we're losing something we've had for so long, but instead of nerfing wormhole life it's adding an extra little bit of danger to things. In these times where everyone's screaming for areas of space to be safer and more nerfed it's actually a little refreshing. We do fine without the other empire crutches the weaker players need... local, dedicated entries and exits, cynos and jump bridges, etc. We'll do fine without this. Welcome to the frontier space of Eve. This is how it was meant to be. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

How you treat your customers has zero to do with providing them a method to accurately and quickly report problems with your product. In fact, having a dedicated, easy to access method of reporting issues puts CCP over and above many of the software vendors I deal with in my day job. And they don't even charge you $125 per support incident.(Microsoft, I am looking at you). WH space is supposed to be riddled with uncertainty. Since the mechanics haven't really changed since Apocrypha, most WH dwellers have gotten complacent and forgotten what the true nature of wspace is: ADAPT OR DIE. |

I agree. also, why is it when i go into a restaurant they don't cut up and chew my food for me? I've certainly paid for this steak, why should i have to go through all this effort to enjoy it?
srs: Bug reports let CCP know about issues so they get fixed. They benefit you, in that those bugs get fixed quickly and you can go back to enjoying internet spaceships without the hassle.
As to the OP, I was a little concerned about the jumps API removal as well at first (it was handy for figuring out system activity levels, for example), but it's certainly nothing you can't adapt around; i know we have. CCP should obviously go the full route and remove all system API calls from w-space just for consistency's sake, but otherwise I'm happy with things as they stand. |

Your metaphor is stupid. Someone telling you to make your own sandwich would be like CCP telling you to dig into the code and fix it yourself.
A far better one for this case would be buying a sandwich and being expected to tell the clerk when they mix up your order and gave you chicken instead of ham. Then again that almost makes the expectation that users should report bugs they find reasonable so I can see why you didn't use it.

When I have a problem with the house I rent, I call the landlord and tell him, I don't put up a bunch of flyers on random telephone poles in the hopes he'll see them. You see, the landlord has provided me (and the other tenants he rents to) with his phone number in the hopes that he can route and solve the issues I have in a timely manner. I pretty much agree with everything you said, I understand the new danger as well as the opportunity it opens up as well, that still doesn't let CCP off the hook for making the change without warning.
I now have to blow more of my time each day securing my space, whereas before, I only had to do so if there had been jumps recently..(which was 50% of the time). Its just a little annoying that I have to assume my WH is open 100% of the time.
It does make WH space more dangerous and in line with the idea that it is potentially the most dangerous space in Eve, opening up the possibilities for WH raids, sneak attacks, and other tactics that jumps gave away. |

No, intel on how active a system might be was not lost. The only information that was lost was the ability to see jumps. What remains is dinner bell intel, aka intel on when someone is farming. Since they're farming you an expect an easy kill since they'll be pve fit and you'll be pvp fit. The advantage of this kind of intel is that you can go to jita while waiting for the inhabitants to start farming. Then when you see that first NPC kill you can make your way back and have them handed to you on a plate.
Just remove it all, I say. But, then you know this already. We want breast augmentations and sluttier clothing in the NeX! |

I'm glad the jumps API was removed for WH's - it made zero sense, and completely broke the aura of mystery that WH space had at Apocrypha's launch.
It's just unfortunate that the API for NPC kills hasn't been removed. There is no sensible reason, that I can find, for it existing in the first place... Don't get me wrong - it's bloody useful, and I've relied on it heavily in the past, in the same way that I used the jump info - but it's still stupid.
I don't have any particular issue though, with Ship Kills being available through API - as the 'Pend Insurance' payout system provides a plausible explanation of the meta-game mechanic. So, I'd be in favour of keeping that. |

I'm in line with you and Mr. Kidd on this, mainly because it adds to the mystery and frontier aspect in wormholes... the not knowing what the hell is going on on the other side part of it. That's how it should be imo. The API data... hell ya I've used it, we'd be foolish not to if it's there... but we'd do fine without it.
It would probably have a side-effect of reducing people visiting wormholes however... at least the people not willing to take a chance and/or gather their own intel. But then again... they shouldn't be in holes in the first place. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

Make no mistake CCP this is a deal killer for small WH corps! If your not currently in a small WH corp, or have in the past been actively in one, your going to have a hard time relating in a real way to the implications of not knowing if your static is spawned or not (please see similar forum thread in EVE Technology Lab forums). An approximate comparison for non WH dwellers would be you log on eve tomorrow and find that CCP has changed missions and incursions so that you now must dock and undock 20 times (with a 3min wait between docking cycles) in a 0.0 system w/o local every time before you run a string of missions or do a series of incursions. Further more you risk having your ship transported across the internet on the last docking attempt if you haven't kept careful tally, and if this does happen, you will be unable to JC back to your starting system. ***** and moan all you want about small corp WH dwellers, but if this restriction on the API jump counter doesn't change everyone can look forward to a yet another further depopulated area of the game. |

I know that there are a lot of PvPers out there who want to support policies that populates their kill boards, but is this really the way you want to do it? I agree with this sentiment, but I don't believe I will be leaving anytime soon, as I stated in the OP, WH had become a place where small corps could reasonably secure their space and live away from the napfest of null, the piracy of LS and the complete boredom and monotony of HS. If you wanted danger/pvp you could always open up and go find someone willing to fight, if you wanted to mine or chain run anoms you could seal up and do that too. This is still possible, but I too need to waste more of my time than before by finding all the sigs and closing all wh because without jumps, even if the system just loaded... I have no idea if an incoming opened then DT passed.... I know even this isn't safe... a fleet of any size could pop in, log and just wait for my corpies to log in and still kill us all but that risk has always been there... all the Jump API did was help assess if I had recent jumps (how many) and helped gauge if I got the loading message, was my hole immediately safe or did I need to close up? now I just have to close up every time. It is an inconvenience and an annoyance, but it doesn't increase my immersion, nor does it break wh for me....

I would prefer any number of changes to wh but this feels like getting hit with the nerf bat more and more... with the logistics pain of pos fuel (the new blocks are a wash, + for simplicity -for making me produce them to use them) the danger of being over-run by null sec or other WH corps, the danger of running out of w-space with valuable cargo, all made wh space more dangerous than nearly any place except a null-sec fleet battlefield... I've already adapted and a friendly corp is talking about shutting down its operation and moving in with us because it really is just a pain/annoyance. Lots of Good happened in this patch that makes our lives less grinding and broken (fixed ships, fixed weapons, fixed UI) apart from the bugs which will get fixed, this is the only place CCP introduced more grind, not less.

Hey guys
We're reviewing the information the API provides in exploration space. The baseline is that it's unknown space and it seems like the API has been giving out a bit too much information. There will probably be further changes in this area.

I do appreciate the straightforward answer, TY. as has been said in other posts we'll adapt and move on, many folks suspected this answer, I'm just glad to hear it as fact. I was also particularly interested in your response in another thread...
CCP Soundwave wrote: I don't really think we're nerfing WH space as a whole. This is a pretty big information loophole where players outside of wormholes will be able to map population, activity etc. That's not intended and needs to get fixed.
On the other hand, we've done a lot for wormholes in Crucibles, especially when it comes to living out of a POS and using bookmarks. As a sidenote, expect more changes like that in our next major patch. Overall, life in WH space should be getting easier as a side effect of us improving related features.
As others have said, I will repeat, no one in WH space wants it to be "safe", we just want enough tools so that its not suicidal (esp for small corps that cannot keep 23/7 watch on their patch of space) The API removal makes things annoying, but manageable. Please keep in mind there are several types of WH corps... indy corps, pvp corps and pve corps (and many variations) with varying sizes from several hundred in an alliance to a solo operator and his alts... no change will make them all happy but keeping it fair will be the best solution.

If you're going to wash jumps out of the API, take NPC kills with it. Go ahead a keep ship and pod kills, as CONCORD will probably have this info based on existing technology and services (insurance, clone usage). As the NPCs do not have bounties, this info should NOT be available for free.
While I have no trouble adapting to the sudden and unanticipated change to WH space, I find the lack of discussion/warning . . . troubling.
WH space has always been the most risky in EVE, I don't mind that at all, I just wish we had a little more warning. The difference between "no jumps this morning, follow slow day protocol" vs "the intel channel is dead, follow risky day protocol" is substantial in an area of space where getting podded carries a greater penalty than anywhere else in the game.

In wormholes, every day is "risky day". Every customs office has a cloaked T3 waiting to blow your PI hauler into next week. Every wormhole has a bubble and a camp on the other side waiting for you to come through. Every Sleeper site is being watched by a roaming gang waiting to jump you when your proverbial pants are down. Every sig has already been scanned by people looking for a chance to kill you.
It's much simpler to assume this... loss of jump API info doesn't really change that. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

Very true. And part of our normal operating procedures.
The jump API info used to tell us if stuff like that had happened already; not a substitute for proper care but a prompt that there were fish in the water. Sharks or tuna - that would be for us to determine.
When the info from the API no longer appears, we had no way to know if that was because the WH was quiet, or the API wasn't sending the info any longer.
Prior notice would have been appropriate, that's all I'm saying.
Can you imagine CCP changing local in null to WH local without prior discussion or at least a warning in the patch notes? Why was W-space treated with less consideration?

So if you purchase a product and it malfunctions do you not report it to the manufacturer? This may be a little different, but for every person that does not report a bug you can be assured there is at least one that is trying to figure out a way to exploit it, therefore it is in your interest to go through bug reports. Granted it is cumbersome and maybe the process could be optimized a bit, but that is not an excuse for complacency.

I'm in a small WH corp and this has not been a huge problem for securing our system. We know our statics, we scan the place daily, and we keep our eyes out for anything unusual. We knew when we had trapped a ratter in our system via holecrush (he didn't have probes, lulz) and when he suicided about a week and a half later. We tried to get him out sooner but he was a wily wascaly wabbit. We know when our statics are spawned, because we take steps to know. I honestly can't believe you're crying about holecrushing. it's a daily routine. You do it because you don't want to wake up in a spankin' new clone when someone nasty sneaks up on you.
I'm on the side of those asking for the complete intel removal. No ratting, no ships, no pods. |

Honestly, for me and probably most of the other long term wormhole guys out there, the more people who live in W-space and conduct day to day activities there, the better. EVE is about interacting with other people, whether its killing them, trading with them or helping them out. If W-space is too hard to operate in and becomes empty, it will become home to small scale, hardcore multi-boxing ISK farming RMTers.
I've ganked plexing fleets and been ganked by plexing fleets and both were exciting, although I must admit being the ganker is more fun than the gankee. The main issue, which CCP cannot do anything about, is that EVE has a lot of really bad players and really good players and in W-space being a bad player can be expensive. |
