Hi EvE community ive played EvE for a few months and think it is 1 of the best games ive played
but i have a sugestion dont know if its been put b 4 or if this is the right place for it but i think that it would b cool if u could costomise our ship's
like in npc stations have a paint shop were u could do some cool colour graphics on our ship's also would b nice to have our corp logo's on the sides of the ships k thats my only thought i think of atm that would b an improvment on a awsome game

nice idea, been suggested before, but the load on the game and bandwidth to have all the spiffy graphics, makes it a 'no-go'.

Edited by: Jangizal on 10/10/2006 21:46:11 I like the idea and I think it would be bad ass to have corp logos on the ships. It would be one hell of a site to see 50 alliance ships warping into an asteroid belt, all with the same color scheme. I am to assume that the server won't be able to handle that kind of punishment.

You can get 50 ships all warping to the belt with the same colour scheme right now... it's just that everyone else has it too __________________________________________ "In girum imus nocte, et consumimur igni."

I heard (i think) that they were/are planning to introduce corp logo stickers that you can have on ur ship chasis. Whether that is/ever was the case I dunno. But would be kewl to have some form of ship colour customisation.

I'm still mystified by this, TBH. Hear me out for a sec...
Ok, so an alliance/corp comes up with design for a logo. They submit that design to a designer at CCP. Let's say they have to cough up a fee for the submittal, say 1 billion ISK-exorbitant perhaps, but it's to prevent mass submissions. The designer decides whether that logo is clean or not. The designer creates a graphics file, matching that logo, and that graphics file becomes part of the next patch, and gets downloaded onto EVERY client.
Now all the server has to do is to send down 1 more additional parameter or somesuch, to force the client to display said logo. Ok ok, so I don't really know how much additional info has to be sent down, but it most definitely wouldn't be the actual graphics that takes up the bandwidth.
/shrug..I'm not a network engineer, nor an MMO designer, nor really that knowledgeable with all things computers, but it seems workable from my laymen perspective.

Corp and alliance logos (and maybe color schemes) are being considered for the graphics update as part of Kali-3. The corp logos are generated by the client, and alliance logos are custom made by the art department for each alliance and updated with each patch.
With proper level-of-detail handling, just having these stenciled on ships shouldn't be much of a problem, especially with the more efficient graphics engine. Having custom paint jobs on the other hand, might cause performance issues depending on the complexity of the alterations, and at the least would allow some rather obnoxious scenes (a fleet of purple thoraxes anyone?) and cause confusion with ship classes since (Tech2 ships at least) are normally identified by their alternative coloring.
We are very likely to see logos and even names on ships (and hopefully battle damage :D ) with the coming graphics update. Custom paint jobs - not so likely.

I seem to remember that too. Was it not on the RMR feature list at some point ?

I can live without that. Too much strain on the server (and the clients who have to render the paint job.) Besides, there would only be so many varieties available, and everyone would choose the handful of cool ones. _

I'd love to see corp logos, at least. Signature graphic removed - please email us to find out why (include a link to the graphic in question) - Jacques([email protected])

They need a paint shop in 0.5 and higher space. If you manage to **** off concord, you can run to a paint shop and get new paint job and be scott free. Also you should be able to beat up exotic dancers and take their isk.

Wrong game mate =P
As for paint jobs, as long as they're from a pre-pooled selection (like, 16 different colors to put in one 'primary' hull color area on the ship and one 'highlight' hull color area on the ship), it shouldn't increase load - as stated previously, you'd only need to send an additional parameter once, and the rest is handled client-side.
Fully custom, where you can swing the brush yourself? Highly unlikely.

EVE: Grand Theft Spacecraft!
Hey, it even has the same letters in its acronym (EVE: The Second Genesis). So long as they add vigilante missions. I want to rampage around in a CONCORD ship!

It would be nice to setup a system similar to homeworld. Where you can use some sliders and chose two colours, one base and one stripe. This would only be two colour values that would need to be sent to the client. the client would be the one that needed to have the extra processing power.
And of course you could just turn it off....

As far as corp/alliance logo's on ships go, i couldn't see it taking up that much extra bandwidth at all. The rendering engine would simply take the corp logo in the same manner as the info-window you get on a pilot - and it is entirely possible these parameters have already been loaded when it needed to find out how to embellish the ship bracket in the overview/cameraview. Rendering-power, however, might be a different issue. But considering the ease of bitblt'ing one texture onto the other before rendering, i don't see that as a problem.
So yeah, i'd love to see that aswell

you beat me too it. but i suggest expanding on the concept. why only one color? i say have it possible to divide into two or three colors and apply an optional fade or stripe effect to handle the contrasting.
use multiple stripes too
and lets not forget in Homeworld 2 how you could go into a paint program and draw your very own badge to have emblazoned on all of your ships. just put it in the patches folder and everytime another player comes within view of your ship at the same time it loads the information for your mere existance within its view it can download the patch off your PC ( w007, the insignias are stored on personal computers not game servers )
and last but not least, an option in the menu to disable display of custom colors and logos.

Earth and Beyond.
They had formations. They had paint jobs. They also had full figure 3d characters walking around in space stations, and you could change your character hairstyles and such. But to switch to a new pair of sunglasses it would cost you an arm and a leg. If you want to switch back, same price. And the paint jobs were nice and expensive of course. But it was nice to switchi things up every so often. Or for some people, more often as much as their wallets allowed it. You could make some nice coloring schemes with it.
But if it came down to lagging the game. Lets avoid that as we have problems already.
