I have a Crusader sitting in my hangar which I hardly ever fly. I've polished up the dashboard, hoovered the cobwebs out of the laser tubes and I have a Rent-A-Matari shining up the crystals.
Thing is, I still don't know how to fly it. I'm trying to throw together an anti-inty setup, maybe catch the odd AF pilot with his trousers down. Most setups seem to fall into three categories: BBQ range (Gatlings + Multi/Conflag), web skirting range (Pulses w/Scorch) or Crow range (DLB).
Logic tells me the 'sader's advantage is speed, to slap DLBs on it and try to dictate range to everyone. I fear, though, that beam damage is pitiful, grid consumption is heavy and I'm toast to anyone with Snakes, Gistii equipment or better speed skills. The ballsy pilot in me wants to slap Gatlings on, HS and plate up, then swoop under nos range and have my cap sucked dry.
I could go out and toast some setups, try and learn from my mistakes. Or I could draw upon my elders' knowledge, flutter my Amarrian eyelids and hope there isn't an "it depends" answer lying in wait.
Go on, how do you fly your 'sader?

I'd say plate and hard hitting close range guns personally.

Armed t2 Shuttle...
I fit dlpl2's with assorted crystals, Catalyzed Arcjets, small battery, nanos in lows. Current skills and unnamed nanos give me 4400m/s.
This will get owned by a lot of things, but I like that I can switch crystals and stay out of harm's way (instantly warps/accelerates). Fly whatever matches your style.

Alas, I do not yet have a 'sader.
But in my dreams it has 12 mids and a 1 second cap recharge rate. ---------- My sig is boring. |

hmm... DLB's, mwd, 20km'er, nanofibs and cpr's?
bit of a cristal-jawed tiger tbh, since you sacrifice everything for range and speed. -------

The Jaegerbomb was built for catching AFs and its setup reflects it. This won't catch any interceptors without MWD + web (scram is usually sacrificed).

That's kind of what worries me. It also sucks against Crows because it's unlikely the tracking situation will be ideal with two inties MWD'ing at range.
Maybe Aeaus is right, perhaps I should just build it to slug it out at ultra-short range.

on this setup i usually ran from crows tbh .
however blasterranis and such are dead meat, unless you end up at that blasterranis web range, like I did before -------

damage is horrible from a beam sader because you're using MW and cant fit any HS it does work tho, eventually

Bah!
I have Gallente Frig V but something compels me to fly the underdogs. Perhaps I shouldn't be too disappointed then when I can't find the perfect fit.
So with Gatling range and DLB range covered, is there any advantage to skirting web range? With MP + Scorch I can just about push an 11.2km optimal, obviously with a tracking penalty though. Seems a dodgy range to skirt without an MWD running continually or constant hammering of the web button... hmm.
Edit: Come to think of it, DLP + a TE might help tracking?

Every E-peen taranis or crow pilot out there thinks that a sader is easy prey and will just go for it with MWD burning towards you.
with jSgerbomb style you get the afs and the inties stupid enough to try it

I guess that's one way of looking at it.
I might give it a run for kicks, it's certainly got a better chance at AFs than most anti-inty setups. It's just the lack of inertia when flying into an enemy's web that scares the crap outta me; being pinned at ~7km with Gatling Pulse isn't the most attractive prospect.

Edited by: Kinsy on 12/10/2006 09:46:16 The problem with a sader is although you gank the crap out of stuff, it either:-
- Runs away - Calls in a mate and you die - Is a Crow, why were you so stupid to engage a Crow nublet?
Stick to using them in gang ops where you'll have a pal doing either the webbing or the scrambling.
I have taken on 2 Blasterranises at the same time in a sader and made them both run. Neither of them were what you would call inty noobs either.

DLP, scram, mwd, cpr, nano, small rep.
You can easily hit to 20km with radio and outside web range with gamma.
You have higher speed than a crow and taranis and can hurt the taranis on approach *should* you get webbed. By the time he gets into blaster range you should just be getting the killmail.
