Logging out when your ship is in danger (i.e., you've just come through a gate into the middle of a bubbled gate camp) = very bad form, and worthy of serious forum flaming.
Logging out after having already got out of danger manualy (i.e., you manage to fly away from the gate camp and get to a safe spot) = not too bad. Theres no rule that says just because you've been attacked, you have to sit logged on at a safe spot for 20 minutes while you wait for your atacker to get bored and do something else before you can log out.
Flaming OPs before you've read their post = very bad form.

Who cares about logging. Who cares people are gonna say its lame. Its part of the game and you cant do anything about
My advise, Just move on to your next target.
Bitter? no, dissapointed in the quality of 'gamers' these days, yes.
Logging out of the game is not part of the game. It's what you do when you stop playing the game. Not being able to stop it does not make it right. Ah well, if the best you can come up with in the heat of battle is to log out of the game then you ain't worth much to anyone.
The saddest part is that gamers understand what I am saying without me having to say it. People like you will never get it. I hear a lot of carebears whine about pirates and call into to question all manner of things about them but the truth is they are playing the game, nothing more. Logging out of fights is one of the few things you can do in a game that really does reflect on you as a person.
No need to say it though, you don't care what anybody thinks of you, just as long as you don't lose your ship.

It is ok as long as you say, "Toodles!" before logging out.

For the record .. i never ever logged during combat.
Its just that i dont care if they do .. shrugg and move on to my next victim. Its there and it wont change, so better accept it instead of whining about. Most loggers wont read the forum anyway

I noted someone earlier talking about being killed in battle, taking it on the chin and keeping your head held high. That reminded me of a time when I was part of a small trio who went out to find a pirate who had been causing problems in our local system (my first PvP experience).
We eventually caught up with him in a belt and battle began, we consisted of a Tempest, caracal and a frig (can't remember which one) and he flew a rook. Even when he was at the point of death he fought bravely.... after his demise (and we didn't pod kill him too) we all had a nice polite discussion afterwards where he congratulated us on our kill. Very civilised and it made the whole experience enjoyable.
I pretty much agree with most of the comments here, logging in battle is poor form and takes the enjoyment away from the game, logging after you escape... well, you escaped so no problem there.... I congratulate you on your evasive techniques, especially in a hauler. My PvP experiences in a Hauler have not been so successful :(
If at first you dont succeed.... kick the damn thing! |

LMAO. By all means, don't log off to save your ship load of hard earned stuff. Let someone blow you up and take it for doing nothing other than ganking a defenseless indy. |

Why not try to make some ransom-money instead of all the ship-/pod-blowing ? Especially defenseless industrials should be easy ransom-money?
Being new to the game (<10 days) I've tried on taking on mining in 0.4+ systems, multiple times I've been attacked and killed by other players - I'm not whining about that - heck it's my own choice to go to those lowsec systems and let myself get involved in possible pvp - but.... how much does a pirate get from shooting down an empty industrial? My guess would be that it'd be more profitable to ask for some ransom for letting the victim live - I know I would pay to save myself from having to tour some 4-8 systems to requip my ship. But not once I've been contacted before being fired upon.
But then again, as said I'm pretty new to the game - and there may be a lot game-mechanics, that I know **** about, that speaks for simply killing the victim, no questions asked.

It always depends on whom you ask :P
In gaming terms anything that requires you to be out of the game then suddenly enter it to get the drop on an enemy is not a tactic. In terms of the game tactics can only exist within the game, everything else is just meta-bull****.
So 1PG have jumped on the log-in trap bandwagon too now?
I was SARCASTIC. If a hauler logs out he is a carebear lamer, but if the 'pros' use login traps that totally valid.
So... no, we don't :P
Now recruiting!

Must...resist...urge...to post... Ugh, I can't do it.
Why are you defenseless? Why are you alone? Why are you in LowSec? Why are you playing a game where getting ganked is part of the plot?
Why do we have to explain what should be obvious, over and over? That's the real question. Why bother?
Oh well, I'd have given up on these forums long ago if it weren't for the attitudes of a few genuine gamers like Telemicus Thrace. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

There are a lot of reasons, and you could get a fuller answer from looking at posts in Crime and Punishment.
The main reasons are that they usually don't know what you're carrying, and they never know how much money you've got. Also a lot of people say that they'll never pay ransoms. And ransoming takes time, time in which help may arrive. So a lot of pirates will just pop haulers, and hope that something good can be looted from the cans.
And some do it just for giggles and kill mails. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
