Hello all!
Maybe this has been posted before, but there's no search button for me to check.
I think it would be beneficial to have some kind of drone bay that one could install in, for example, the Industrial class of ships (Badger, Iteron). AFAIK, these ships can't currently carry drones, and the ability to do so would be a big step up for miners who can't yet afford one of the REAL mining ships.

This isn't a bad idea, sort of turning low end industrials into semi-carriers.
If anything it would be a major change to the class, it would probably have to involve a single low slot module taking up 90% of cargo space, and a majority of available power and cpu. Possibly even integrate into the industrial class one of the % mods like mining barges have in relation to stripminers, in order to prevent placement on other ships. Not too much of a bad idea.

Historically, it's not unknown for similar ships to be fitted as q-ships for anti-pirate ops. Though it'd still be only abel to hold one or two fighters. Powerful, but not Overpowered.

There are mining frigates and cruisers, by that point you usually have started on skills to specialise and have enough cash for a ship.
The search button is a bit hard to find but it's in the upper right hand corner above the store spam.

well, they should not be able to use fighters, as that is still strickly carrier's/Motherships.
But a low slot mod to add 50 to drone bay at the cost of 10% max cargohold and 10% speed reduction would be nice.

Well, I hadn't considered the concept of a low-rent carrier. This was geared toward the up-and-coming miner who has grown out of using frigates for mining, but can't afford a true mining ship. I was thinking a maximum of 10 drones, with a loss of 10% of max cargo space (the reduced speed idea was good too). Something that would allow an improvement in mining ability and speed and let the player fend off NPC pirates, but not allow for a "mini-carrier", or one that would live long in a real fight.

Yeah, then I could fit a ton of them and have a huge bay in an industrial to rival a dominx! - More hotkeys! Faster skill training |

I dunno: One fighter is not too overpowerd. It's the fact that carriers can drop hoards of them that makes them uber. The idea of a baby carrier in the form of a indie wouldn't be over powered, so long as you can only do fice drones at once, and never have more then enough drone bay to hold one fighter.
She's hunting you, pirate scum...

I wouldn't do percentage of cargohold. Just do it a flat -1000m3 to limit this to industrials or at least Battleships that have had numerous Cargo expanders to "hollow out" its insides to make room for the drone bay. Not sure on the drone capacity or drone/fighter arguement. Also I would regardless of how its done ensure that no more than 1 can be put on a ship like Damage controls.

Make it a high slot module. Drones are essentially weapons, and they should be a tradeoff for another possible weapon location. Drone bay or nos? Blaster or drones?
If I could put a couple mining drones in my Badger, I'd be an AFK mining superstar.

I Dig the Q-ship idea. slightly gimped in liveabilty but able to throw a hard punch on unsuspecting raiders, while still impossible to tell from "normal" industrial traffic. So-called "griefers" in empire space would have to think twice before pestering a mining operation. fits my Micro-carrier dreamboat idea, which would be a battleship hull scooped out and rebuilt with an OK dronebay, small corphanger (10km3?) and small corp bay (enough to carry 2 or 3 frigates, Maybe a single cruiser and a frigate worth). give it the no offense/heavy supporting features like the refitting field (or whatever its called) and power support. Add in a standard drive, no jumpdriving, and you have a mobile support platform for wars all over the map. able to manage repair and refit for frigate gangs and small fleets while eing more mobile then a True carrier. Alliances would fear something like this getting deep behind their lines, and empire warhounds will keep one with the roving gangs to keep their crews ready to go without having to have a cache at every other station. I can dream, cant I?
