Edited by: Serenity Winterfyre on 11/10/2006 18:53:46 Got a speeding ticket going 100+ MPH. Found out my fine would be hella steep, its 2 points on your license(same as DUI), my insurance will go up dramatically, and I will lose my license for a month(will be screwed for getting to work).
Soooo today is my court appearance. I hired an attourney and I hope he is worth it hehe. All decked out in my best clothes to make a good impression and i'm set to leave in an hour.
Lesson learned not to go speeding down the highway at that speed anymore =(
*crosses fingers* for cop not showing up to court appearance. lol. {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY?

While I was going pretty damn fast the cop wrote it up for 101 MPH... the law states that you have to be going over 100+ so my grounds are that how the hell can they tell the difference between 2 MPH by eye judgement alone, or if he used radar(doesn't say on ticket what he used and he didn't say) they have a + and - of 5 MPH. {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY?

Over here (UK) you're allowed to be 10% either side of the limit, to allow for both errors in the Radar guns, and errors in your Speedo (Bit harsh to bust someone doing 32 in a 30 zone, when their speedo said they were doing 30).
Good luck anyway, but I hope you've learnt your lesson :P

Yeah, that happens all the time, cops not showing up i mean.
My driving instructor said to always fight your speeding tickets because A. Radar Guns are innacurate by roughly 10kph B. A cop's judgment isn't always right C. They don't always show :P

Actually, I don't usually go that fast. I was late in meeting someone and there were no cars in front of me so I floored it. I drive a Corvette so I got up to speed pretty fast. However, what I didn't see was the cop sitting hidden off on the side of the road. He told me he had to go over 130MPH to catch up to me and it took him awhile, because he told me he saw me waaaay down the road.
And no I didn't drink the 6 pack yet, because I have to pick up someone from their school later on today
After I get home from that is annother matter though
EDIT: Its also bad when the officer tells you that he thought it was going to be a pursuit when he pulls you over. I'm extreamly lucky. {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY?

This is nothing to be proud of, breaking the law and then being excused. I am sure you would all not be so proud had you injured or killed someone, you would not be asking for people to wish you luck or congratulate you, in fact I am pretty sure you would not even be mentioning it in these forums.
Speeding, DUI, etc are subhuman crimes committed by the selfish, happy to endanger the lives of people around them who have no choice in the matter of their stupidity. Would you be proud to crash into another car due to your speeding, injuring or killing the occupants or perhaps any of your passengers?
Remember flamers of this you could be supporting breaking the law, perverting the course of justine, perjury and endangerment of human life. And please do not try to counter with excuses about your individual case, I am not interested in your excuses about not normally speeding etc.

I was referring to the fact that most people will defend themselves from criticism and that I was uninterested in these as I would find them to be lacking. I don't feel that refering to a response was asking for excuses or requiring that people excuse themselves to me, just that a moral discussion would be more suitable than reasoning for past actions taken.
I am sorry you misunderstood / were unable to understand this and that you were unable to make a better contribution to the conversation.

so eh who's divine right was it to set current speed limits etc. I know that the current stopping distances in use for theory tests in the uk are based on the stopping distances of a ford anglia. now cars have improved vastly since like the 70's yet the speed limit has not.
so to sum this up we now have cars that stop quicker and have better handling yet the speed limit on our motorways has stayed the same.
I don't condone speeding past a school or in a neibourhood, but whats wrong with putting you foot down on the motorway where its illegal for pedestrians to be walkin down the side of. Your signature is inappropriate. Please read the forum rules before reposting- Tirg |

The distance needed by a 2 ton car to come to a halt from 100 km/h and the distance needed by a 1 ton car is not the same, assuming both have the same breaking system. Now if the 2 ton car has a better breaking system... does the distance it needs to stop become somehow smaller than the 1 ton car's?
Also, people from the 70s and people from today have not improved much in their wrong impression that they are better drivers than the next guy, overestimating their abilities.
The limits are imposed for everyone regardless of breaking ability, weight of the car, skill of the drivers or speed the car can attein. You wouldn't want a van with really worn out breaks behind your Smart doing 130 km/h and you need to suddenly stop, now, do you? That's also why there's a certain distance you need to leave between the cars.
Doing 180 km/h leaves you VERY limited time to react to an unforseen event. Doing 100 gives you almost twice the time. Going slower gives you even more time. You get the point? Stories. |
