In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. -- Douglas Adams, 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' |

I believe this is where the saying "You can fly a XXXX, but not pilot it" comes in.

Yeah, as soon as I posted that I upgraded the clone.
And the beard is an artifact of turning off every single graphics option on my work computer (just log in to switch skills normally). _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |

There was a time when I had incredible gunnery skills without a lot of the more basic support skills. I was comfortable empire mining and decided to just train up gunnery, then train electronics, then train engineering, then train mechanics. (I still need to train up missile skills.)
ThatÆs probably not the best way to do it of course, but it worked for me.
If I was building an alt to fly dreadnaughts I would probably do just what you are apparently doing. Train straight to dreadnaughts, then train gunnery, then train engineeringà
IÆm guessing thatÆs what youÆre doing, right?

You need that to fly the ship but not to train the skill.
