It's a damn shame that one has to resort to fansites to get information. This is the official website for EVE but probably the worst website informationwise...
CCP's Customer Service Department should increase their skilllevel of communication. I mean it's only a Rank 1 skill and they haven't trained it past level 1 yet...

They are chats between the devs and players about eve related issues. Eve-I has all of them on thier site, they can be an interesting read

Still burning since Lotta grilled them the last time eh?
I agree this looks bad....for CCP that is.
I hope this wasn't avoidance at TomB's part, being the last CSM for these delicates and all, why wasn't it just postponed?
Well we'll see when they announce the next ppl to participate, if they're complete push overs then we'll know the truth, if not.....well
I would have loved to see them answer Lotta's question no. 1. that she sent to Pann,
Oh and to Wild Rho CSM stands for Council for Stellar Management.

Yeah and when I take sick days there's always someone who can take over for me....its called covering all your bases.
and if he had an emergency which is quite possible and I mean that, really, I'm not a heartless bastard....I think
Then why did they have to cancel this session? why not just postpone it? They've done that before.
Pardon us but this just seems a tweenie weenie bit too convenient
incidentally I used to be a big fan of X-Files and conspiracy theories in general.
Seriously though communication from them has been at an all-time low the last 2-3 weeks, and ppl was complaining before then, so go figure.

Edited by: Kalki Nibiru on 30/10/2003 00:21:52 Edited by: Kalki Nibiru on 30/10/2003 00:21:12 Crimson, I do agree with what you are saying, but you also have to see the situation from the perspective of other people. I did a bunch of research for Eve-I.com, I went through the CSM chats and found out all the features they told us we would have that havent been fulfilled and all the player ideas they said would make it in game that we would have.
Here is just a small bit (expect Lotta to publish an article on this in the coming days)
This one from the May 29th CSM
Quote: Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar>we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found. I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with
2-3 weeks? Its been 5 months since then.
Then we have the issue about implants, sure we have them now, but at the time of the May 8th 2003 CSM we were told this
Quote: <Wolfgang> *gaia-* Implants? Will they be implemented anytime soon? How is it going to work? When "fitting", will you be able to choose where on the body a curtain implant will be (such as brain, eyes, torso...) corresponding to its task? Some implant will affect attributes, others skills, or some both? Can you replace an implant with another once attached? Will Jove stations be the only place to get an implant in? <Solaris_CCP> Implants are already implemented and are in testing and balancing currently. There are 5 "slots" to fit implants. Implants both boost attributes and give direct bonuses such as combat damage and ship speed. I say 2-3 weeks for implants
Ok, so they had things like Implants and Player structures already made, it was just bug testing. They also said 2-3 weeks, at that time, if we didnt trust them too much we would have expected to see these things in a month and a half, 2 months tops. But its been over 5 months.
I'm sure we could all cut them some slack, but its hard to do it after you have followed the games website all the way to release, you have read rich background, and followed CSM chats expecting content, only to be left with a game that doesnt have the majority of the content and story it should have; the content and continuous storyline we should have had from the beggining.
CCP has a proven track record of failing to meet their own release dates and provide new pieces of the story line and new content (Sure we have the Amarr championship right now, but I remember Ouria, that came, ended abruptly, and then we were left with several weeks of nothing).
If the developers want us to stop busting their chops and cut them some slack, they need to be accountable for their game and start giving us reasons to cut them some slack; Content would be nice.
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. As I recall, one of our biggest gripes was that CCP introduced new content without fixing the bugs that were there from the last content introduction.
Now you can have it, one way or the other...not both.

Take a look at what Kalki posted. Yes one of the gripes was putting things in too fast, but look at what they said!
The fact of the matter is they need to get organized and start putting content out MUCH faster. If you are worried about quality, they need to hire more testers.
The game we should have had on release date isnt here yet, what we all want is that game.

Seriously guys, TomB is a damn hardworking man. I think 12 hour workdays for him are a vacation since he seems to put in a LOT more then that during the "normal" week. How the hell is a guy in the work office at 2am his time?? Mad props to the man for that.

The truth of the matter is that TomB had an emergency this afternoon (afternoon for me, night for him - there's a 6 hour time difference between us) and he contacted me about a 90 minutes or so before the meeting was supposed to start. We tried to find a replacement for him, but by then, most everyone had gone home for the day.
This would have been the last CSM for this particular group of delegates and we have other things scheduled during the two-week off time when we select the new delegates. Rather than trying to juggle a bunch of things, we agreed that it would be best to let each delegate submit three questions. This actually works out better because not all of them get a chance to ask three questions per chat.
I contacted the delegates as soon as I knew there may be a chance we'd have to cancel. We tried to find a replacement, couldn't, and so I mailed back asking them to send in their questions. I am going to wait to see how many more respond, then I will have the questions waiting in the Inboxes of the appropriate devs in the morning. I hope to be able to send out the answers by Thursday evening or, at least, before the weekend.
I hope this sufficiently addresses your concerns, questions and conspiracy theories. My appologies to Chicken Little. The sky did not fall today and it looks like clear skies for a good while yet to come.

Somebody just needs to write a bot to replace TomB in these chats. Just have it say one of the following phrases...
"I wasn't aware of that."
"They're currently on Chaos."
"They are implemented and currently in testing."
"You should see them in 2-3 weeks."
"This is being worked on."
"It's partially fixed."
"I will do my best to mini-patch this."
This way you can answer almost anything that is thrown at you and concentrate on the false promises, carrot dangling and PR firefighting.

I am in two minds here. Although the winers have a point, after reading up on MMORPG development for a while now it pains me to consider the complexities involved. I guess the obvious answer would be to throw more devs into the fray but I know from personal experience that devs can be expensive $$$ (hehe).

Thanks for the advance notice Pann, reminder mail did state that you could have a possible cancelation and you did make it clear that you will push for us to get 3 questions submitted each should you not be able to find a replacement for TomB.
I also feel it was a good call to let us e-mail 3 questions each than to postpone. Hopefully we get better answers this way than in the short time we have during a CSM when brains are racked for answers.
It is my opinion that the format of the CSM has to change slightly, more like a meeting with specific points of discussion than a rushed "I need to get as many questions in as possible" mishmash. Dumbledore has pointed this out in a forum post on our site. Find it here.
For the record, here are my 3 questions:
1. As shown by the official forum boards there is a growing concern over lack of promised content. There are many features that have been advertised on you box that have yet to be brought into the game. Many of the players tolerated the fact that some of these features didnÆt appear within the first month or two. It is now the end of October and we have yet to see what has been promised to us. Many of us are getting leery of this and are starting to wonder whether or not we will see these features at all anytime soon. What steps do you plan to take in the future that will fix this problem? How are you planning to retain customers when other new MMOGÆs are being released early next year. Surely you must know that you have to introduce new/promised features to keep this game fresh and interesting in order to compete with new titles 2. Upcoming Changes: When is DCM going to be implemented and what knock on effects will we see in refining and the manufacturing of items using the new mineral? Deepcore mining has been promised for quite a while along with the elite frigates which will be used. The current Megacyte short and lack of any way of moving large quantities of minerals around is causing havoc with the markets and is causing quite a few members to lose interest in this aspect of the game. When can we expect this new mining mechanic and what effects do you hope to see after its implementation? Will we get advanced refining techniques using this new mineral to create refined products such as composites etc that would hopefully allow a player based trade market to evolve?
3. Feature Request : Larger Specialised Haulers What i'd like to suggest is a dedicated transport craft, no turrets, a couple of med slots and a couple of low slots. This class should have a base cargo of about 30,000 and have very little CPU and Powergrid but a reasonably large capacitor. It should have almost zero agility and a base speed of about 50. The restraints on this class would mean afk mining wouldnt happen and you shouldnt be able to fit and MWD on it. This would be a pure hauler class, it would probably need protection and should probably rival the size of the Battleships.

Not all deligates were contacted, I only found out when I joined the channel, and Lotta forwarded the e-mails to me. Shame I did not have any questions, I was just going to force an answer out for when the features we've asked for were going to be fixed.

TomB, along with the rest of the Eve Dev team are certainly hard working people, there is no doubt about this. The problem as i see it is they just have too much to do for the size of the current team. The people who would be creating content spend way too much time chasing bugs and reacting to problems that need imediate attention. CCP either needs to hire more testers or increase the number of content coders. Eve is a great game with huge potential yet to be realised. There is an impression in the gaming community though that there isn't enough content in the game even 6 months after release. No matter if this impression is real or imagined new gamers will not come to try the game as long as this impression exists.
I believe that as long as CCP continues on its current course they will never overcome the negative impressions that exist about Eve and the game will be destined to fail around the 1 year mark. The turn around can be done, just look at Anarchy Online!
By the way, why has the Peek of the Week turned into the peek of whenever we can get around to doing something? Yasir Solar Wind |

i just read the last csm-log.
best so far.
it got very close to the suggested changes (very good ones btw, less questions, more discussion).
was very nice to see them cornered a bit, very special thanks to latta! (you wont get any miner iii bp s handed out after this, but you can pick up a kiss from me at any time )
very important first question, again: no answer.
i wonder why they keep telling us that stuff is fixed, while the majority of us has the strong feeling it isn t. i deeply doubt that this is aclever strategy in the long run!
