Although I greatly enjoy EVE, I am getting frustrated the way management is handling many issues. I have been playing EVE since beta and bought it the day it went retail. There was so much hope in the game and CCP has delivered us many promises for the implementation of new items and features. However, time has past and we are not much further from where we are since retail. I would like to purpose an International EVE Log Out Day where no one logs in for 24 hours. I would like to plan this during the weekdays since the weekend is usually the best opportunity for players to get some gaming in. This Log Out is to show CCP that many custumers are dissapointed with how EVE has evolved, but we still enjoy what it can be. I would like for noone to log on from downtime on Tuesday November 4th till after the downtime on Wednesday the 5th. With enough people not logging on, CCP will get the message that it is the players that control the game and they must listen to our demands.
I do believe that I speak for everyone on the issue of when a new patch will be put in. We have gone about 2 months without one and it is only gonna spell doom if they prolong the patch for another Grande Patcho that is just gonna blow up in their face. Also, what is this Soon(TM) crap. Give us a calendar of target dates that things plan to be implemented.
I fear that many great players will be leaving in the upcoming months if nothing happens ingame. So, show CCP our interests and support the International EVE Log Out Day.

if theyre not releasing anything new in the next patch i think a lot of people will just go away ... its not like waiting 1 month to get a new evemail box that is even more difficult to use is the kind of change i want in eve.

The content for newbies in EVE is very poor IMHO. You choose a slave, who is specialized in weapons, got military background, is a pirate wannabie; what you do the first 1 - 2 months of your career as a "Terminator". You mine stones. WOW! What an action game.
Believe me FedEx missions and mining does NOT attract new players. This game could have been a single player one, if people knew that missions and mining are the only ways for newbies to build up some economy. Sorry but not everyone wants to join a corporation. You can see that very easy by going to newbie systems and check the computer made corporations how many thousent of members they got. You cannot force people joining a corporation, even if the idea is good to let the players understand that they need to cooperate in order to advance. But the whole idea could have been slightly better. You cannot force me 1 week after I buy the game to join a corporation in order to have fun. I want to see that there is more content before I decide to put full time in EVE.
The months passed and nothing has changed. No content. The missions still are some poor FedEx delivery missions, and for 10.000 ISK you might also die cause the server will spawn so many collaborators that will whoop your butt in no time. Mining is so boring. You see some lazers hit stones for hours... What an action right? *yawns*
Sure, you guys work your heads off with bug fixing, but drop an eye into the content.
- Mining - FedEx missions - Corporations - some PvP now and then - PvE in low level system
And thats it...
You ask for constructive critisism. Well... here you have: Add more content into the missions, newbie enviroment. Don't let the newbies create superman character and then throw them in the middle of the universe inside a ship. To do what... mine alone... Place the newbie spawn systems close to each other. Newbies should find other newbies to interract with each other.
The graphics are stunning, don't put any more work into them, consetrate into your bug fixes and game content. We do NOT need new ships. We need more people. What would be with a good ship if the only things to do with it is mine, kill others or kill yourself. I understand you didn't want to do a major release because of several good reasons.

Edited by: Daphne Moon on 30/10/2003 09:45:12 Sadly, it's not gonna happen... a) the majority of players don't bother with these forums and b) even if they did, the lure of 24 hours of unchecked mining/hunting/exploring in closed 0.0 territories would prove too strong, as the alliances controlling them would be all too aware...
But do I know exactly where you're coming from - this game needs some urgent attention in many areas. -------------------- Hey ho, let's go! |

Hi you folks.
We know that we have been quite silent here on the forums lately. There is much work to be done here at customer support. We are working on your cases and we will answer you as soon as possible. In the meantime, please take a look at this interview with Sigurur Ëlafsson at CCP, he shares information about some of the new features that will be implemented into the game soon.
Have fun

And your only mistake was using the word "soon" .. which, (I think I'm safe in saying), the EVE community is getting mighty annoyed at hearing repeatedly in regards to things that never happen.

WTF? I started out by hunting Arrogators and Imputors in my Ibis, then proceeded to buy a Condor so I could hunt up to 10k pirates, then a Merlin at which point I was hunting 20k pirates. I do admit I have mined since then but only to build ammo, not for money.
As for frigate PvP... I see alot of frigates flying around out there, and since people usually don't think of frigates as a threat, you can warp into a belt with cruisers/bships mining and start wreaking havoc.

Actually, something similiar was done against Funcom with the game Anarchy Online.
Many players, upset with the patch procedures after a horrible patch and other issues cancelled their subscriptions temporarily to send a message. The developers received the message very loudly and very clearly.
I'd suggest checking yor attitude for the cause of any deficiencies.

For those of you posting the "this is dumb" replies: it would be nice to have a reason as to why you dissent. These unsubstantiated opinions on these forums will be ignored quickly.... so enlighten us, please .
This is not an organized demonstration that would require you calling in sick to work or missing out on anything other than EVE. It would simply be nice to know what the argument against this idea is.
As someone posted previously, this has worked quite a few times in MMOGs, and I would be willing to join in for the reasons detailed in Sirrah's post.

The reason I thought it was dumb is that it pre-supposes CCP aren't doing all they can at the moment to make things better and that therefore you will be able to speed things up/improve them with this pointless action.
Until someone shows me a photo of the CCP studio with all the devs sitting around smoking Ganja with feet up on desks surfing for ****, I guess I'll cut them some slack.

What is the meaning of getting the game better, if a lots of players cancel their accounts. Many of us that have played EVE from the start, are feeling that CCP have been promising a bit to much sometimes. Yes and we¦re starting to hate the word "soon".

Done reading the interview... It¦s the same kind of "we will..." blabla you guys gave us since release. I¦ve said it numerous time and this is probably the last time I¦ll say it: Stop promising and talking about 'exciting' new features, IMPLEMENT THEM! NOW!! Not in 2 months, not in 1 week, not in 2 days... NOW!!! Actually YESTERDAY is still too late since all these 'exciting' new features were supposed to be in at launch.
I¦m a patient person, extremely patient. I¦m 100% sure that this game will succeed once the initially planned content is implemented and this is reason why I¦m still here... but I¦m tired of waiting and I¦m even more tired... no... I¦m ****ed about these stupid promises you guys make when you know for a fact that your promised stuff will not make it into the game in your stupid promised timeframes. Heck... if you don¦t know when some feature will be ready then TELL US EXACTLY THAT and don¦t raise our hopes over and over by promising stuff you know you¦ll not deliver in time. I¦m tired of your goddamn 'soon(tm)' and your damn 'in 2 weeks' promises so stop them and start delivering what we paid for.
We want deployables, we want researchers and manufacturers to be a viable class in the game, we want enhanced gang features, we want the goddamn lag-issues fixed, we want gate 2 gate jumping, we want frigates and cruisers to be the common ships in the game instead of the goddamn battleships which I¦m extremely tired of aswell... stupid slow-ass long turning boredom machines ****ing me off more and more everyday since I¦m freaking FORCED to fly one of these damn things.
Dammit... all I want is to hop into my beloved Incursus and be sure that the ship is worth anything, that it¦s capable of living up to it¦s role as a combatfrigate spearheading attacks and operations. I want 6 of my wingmen also in them while our cruiser backup helps us out... with a few battleships sitting some 90km away supporting us with longrange weapons. I want my scientists to be able to make a change to the goddamn expensive BPs we buy, I want my manufacturers to have fun doing their job, I want my logistics people sitting in front of the map asking themselves how to transport those 200 frigates from one system to the other, I want my enemy to be able to find me just like I¦m able to find him, I want to be able to scan others in this goddamn world, I want enhanced scanning equipment...
I simply want what you promised all the time CCP. So stop the damn promises and DELIVER! NOW!

How retarded an idea.
"Hey guys, lets not play a game we are still paying for the next 24 hours to prove we are upset with them. I know it'll make their CS team happy and there won't be any server stress so nobody will need to fix anything. We'll help out the employees at CCP and still give them money since we are all morons. YAAAAAY lets go protest"
Only if you get people to cancel their accounts for a month will you make a statement besides how low your intellect is. I personally am still paying on a month by month basis, not an hour by hour or day by day, so I'll be not pulling anything retarded like this as long as I'm still paying to be playing.

Edited by: mingster on 30/10/2003 15:20:19 As far as logging off for 24hrs its not a stupid idea (striking has always been seen as a method of getting your message across) but obviously you will always have people that arent interested. It's an idea its not stupid its just impossible to make everyone see things your way so will prolly make no difference unless you got the whole player base backing (which is not ging to happen).

In the way of MMOs this is my 4th one I've Beta'd this is one of two I've actualy play live. In comparison to UO (Ultima Online) CCP has been updating like a bat outta, Hey look at that kitten! but seriously they are adding content at a very active pace, especaily since as you recall the actualy CCP staff in comparison to other MMOs is rather small. So eigther be patient or go someplace else. if you can't wait for things to be implimented then you get alot of bugs, which just means later you get more patches to fix the old ones. CCP is now going through making a whole bunch of fixes and going through and making sure all their code is clean before releasing the next patch.
Plus keep in mind most of these guys haven't had a break since we went live. I would imagine at this point they are taking turns taking a week or two off. be calm people. InfiniCorp, Lunatic at Arms

Comparing customer support to EVE's competitors I'd say their customer support is quite good. Which would make it a comparative strength of this game. :)

I don¦t give a damn about the timeframes in which they patch the game or whatever, this is not what I¦m concerned about. It¦s the goddamn promises that drive me wild. Look... 3 weeks ago one of my longtime online friends, one of those guys you play every game with has canceled his account because he was bored due to the lack of content. He said he¦s ****ed that CCP doesn¦t implement all the promised features and when he heard that mobile refineries were delayed again he decided to cancel his account. Now in some devchat (don¦t remember where) it was said that those damn refineries were going to be in 2 weeks after my pal left the game. So I told him "hey they said refineries will be in in 2 weeks" so he decided to reactivate his account. Now I think you will realise how ****ed he is both at CCP and me for promising content while CCP KNEW THAT THIS CONTENT WOULD NEVER MAKE IT IN TIME. Another point he made was the fact that he has to fly a battleship to be successful in the game. He NEVER INTENDED to fly battleships when he bought the game! He was aiming to be a top of the line, specialised and deadly frigate pilot... the Kestrel is still his favorite ship. Now with frigates being worth nothing at all what argument is there for my pal to keep playing the game? You name it, none.
See, I don¦t care when exactly all the new stuff will be implemented. But if there¦s one thing I hate then it¦s hollow promises, lies and generally this attitude of trying to justify your own failure in certain tasks with promises and 'soon(tm)'. Everyone makes mistakes, but trying to cover these with promises and other blabla is lame. I would rather like to see no news and interviews at all and have the patches coming in a clear fashion than reading all this 'we will do this in 2 weeks' and 'soon(tm)' bs that does NOTHING besides raising hopes of people who love the game just to smack them in the face again by not delivering what was promised in time. In fact CCP can consider themselves goddamn lucky for having such a dedicated and patient community because otherwise they¦d be sitting at home living off welfare.
And by the way: The 'be patient' argument doesn¦t cut it anymore. Everyone posting here is probably here since more than 5 months. If that isn¦t patience then... whatever.
As said I¦m an extremely patient person and I¦ll never leave this game since it can only get better from now on, but these promises are driving me wild.

I played Dark Space instead.
While Dark Space was in agony, I started playing Dark Ages of Camelot.
I won't reactivate my Dark Space account and still have an active DAOC account.
That's one of few game that constently delivered what was promised.
If I stop playing EvE, I'll never come back, I'll just resume my DAOC game.
To the contrary of what some people have said, this would send a clear warning to the devs as a possible wave of future accounts cancelation while showing them our support of the game.
As it stands, Eve could become one of the most profitable MMO game (20,000 players per server).
Small dev team ? Well, hire more people then !
Sirrah, try and get coverage outside these forums and definitely count me in.

This is dumb. Those who are commenting about CCP not making good on their promises really need to shut up. This is one of the best MMORPG's out there, period. Besides, this isn't your game, it's CCP's game. It's their world and if you don't like it stop playing. And not just for 1 day, forever. You don't have some inherent, unalienable right to play Eve. That's a privilege, and people should enjoy it rather than thinking that they are entitled to everything they've ever dreamed of. If you want something better, make your own game. Until then, shut you traps and play if you do like the game. If you dont like the game, then quit. It's that simple.
Yelling and screaming that everything needs to be done NOW! is so incredibly childish. I thought of the girl in Willy Wonka that turned into a blueberry everytime I hear you say that (if you remember her name let me know). Saying, "I want it NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW!" won't help matters and having a log out day won't either.
Sirrah, you don't speak for the majority of the community on this one. A large portion, maybe. But not the majority. There are a large group of the silent majority who like this game a great deal. By doing your "log out" you are detracting from the entire Eve community's experience. Personally, I think the constant slamming of CCP and such has damaged the game more than the actual bugs or any lack of content that is supposed to be implemented.
Have a nice day.

The problem with the logout is that it does not effect the timeline of the game. Players are a side note. No player is bigger than the game. These forums are an exstention of the game. Those looking for more Eve come here. They do so for two reasons.1) Cause we love it. 2)Cause we want to make it better.
Reasoning behind 1) The game is intense. I dont know any game out there where everything is there for you at the beginning of your char. Guess what folks. You dont have to have a single Space Command Skill or weapon skill or any skill. If you want them then work for them. You get a ship at the beginning with no requirments. If you wanted Day 1 you could do agents. Now you can get rich doing them. Does that get you in a Battle Ship, nope. Soo there is no cookie cutter player character model. Those that want more have hit the top They have thier BS and all the cool mods. That brings me to 2) They have dedicated thier spare time around this game. Some more than others. Do you know how long it takes to get to a BS skill?? Alot of time (skills) and money(50+millions). Mining(100k an hour for 500 hours) is slow way to get a BS unless you have slave labor(corp). I left a corp that did that. They have been to all the cool places and want more of what they strive for thier character. The whole result is they are looking out for themselves. Whine = I want it now and you said I would have it.Nerf = I made my Character around a model and now you changed the model, what do I do now. --------------------------

man what a whine this is like i have tried to tell you rock heads all along we wont see good content for a year. and we are 6 months in and thier gearing up for things. by all means take time off pirates too that will give me time to mine some bisot i 0.0 space without gob flies bothering me.
realy people do you all whine like this out in the real world? if you do you must not have many friends. you must know that life is hard and nothing good is free so get over it
on a side note to all real players in eve if half of what the artical said was true start building cash i mean alot of cash for when we get to tec3 the game will be as real as it gets and then war will realy mean somthing. now its camp and gang kill but all that will change when you have a ship yard and a station to protect. lol losing a 100 mil ship is nothing next to losing a 100 billion station

I beleive her name was Veruca Salt (thus naming of the band since the lead singer played that character)
I am 100% sure on the first name, the rest I'm running off of my horrible memory. But I think it was a different girl that turned into a blueberry, I think Veruca went down the tube after the golden goose eggg. Haven't seen the movie in a few years though.

My whole intent on this Log Out is gather enough attention from CCP to address one of my biggest complaints and that to keep the player community well informed. I find it disheartening that the "Updates" section contains material posted back during the beginnning of September. I know that EVE wil continue in my absence, but with enough players participating in the Log Out, we will get the developers attention. I noticed that it only took several hours for a GM to respond to my initial post.
Many state the claim that if I do not like EVE, then I should just leave. Well, I can personaly say that EVE's only saving grace has been my fellow corpmates that I communicate with not only inside the game but also outside. If I hadn't joined such a wonderful group of individuals, I would have left a long time ago. They have maintain my interest in EVE, but there are many issues that needs to be addressed.
If I were to make an analogy of EVE's responsibilites to the community, consider yourself taking a taxi cab ride. You are informed of the destination you are heading to, but the driver is taking us through back roads and telling us we will get to the destination Soon(TM). After patiently waiting to get back on track, there is further delay but without much explaination. Us as players do have the option to get out of the taxi and ride into a new one. However, what if everyone stopped taking taxi cabs for one full day? I am positive it will gather some attention.
Do as you all may next Tuesday, but I can live without EVE for 24 hours. I will just set a skill to train during that duration and monitor the server stats. By staying offline, you are stating that you enjoy EVE as a whole, but it is heading down a "slippery slope" if actions aren't taken immediately.

Ehh I pay for this game, I¦ve read the manual ( and it does¦nt seem to follow the game way anyway ) I heard promises of "soon" many times. I even bought the box three times in total and -¦m not a child. I don¦t buy a car and ppl tell me to shut my mouth and that I¦m privilege to drive it. People in here has the right to express their feelings about stuffs they want to have done with the game. No player in here is complaining about how booring the game is in total, we love it, but wants the full of it.We want to have the game in the way it has been spoken of buy CCP. Don¦t tell us to make our own game instead, if you don¦t like the free speach, then say it instead, but in here we¦re no childs. But maybe you are ? Btw Maela I¦m the silent majority also, and i¦m not feeling the same way as you are and that ppl should shut up. Members like this makes the ideas flow, and the forums become more active. CCP is reading this from time to time and be listening and taking ideas, just to make the game more interesting. If all of us would shut up and leave, what would you be playing ? cant be EVE, because we should just shut up and leave. And yes we have the right to play EVE,we¦re paying for it, every month, and some of us even for two to three accounts.
Just dont tell us to shut up
Sorry if my english is not to good though.

It's very simple to me, when my 6 months are up, I'm going to look back and question whether I had fun during that time. So far, I would have to say no, but who knows that could change between now and then. If nothing changes, it will be simple, they won't be getting another check. I guarentee you I am not the only one. So if CCP wants to make empty promises and words like: "soon" or "shortly" and not act on it, fine no problem. They just won't be seeing any money.
I will just have to find another game to pass the time...

I must admit I stopped reading all the stupid flames in this thread after 2 pages.
All I'm gonna say is this: Yes, I know it won't damage CCP. And that's a good thing, since I do not want to damage them. But the utter lack of communication and implementation of features no one ever cared about (instead of features that were advertised and promised time over time) has to stop. CCP obviously isn't getting the picture.
By seeing their server cluster empty for a day they will perhaps at least take notice. That's all I want, personally. It hurts me to see the game of my dreams (which it mostly is even now) not living up to its potential.
And if the server has no significant drop in players at that day, this will only show one thing: that the players are happy with the game and how CCP is handling things. I will accept that like I would accept a democratic vote.
But from then on, I will ask everyone who complains the same question: "Did you set a sign on logout day?". If the answer is no, then I can't be bothered to take that person seriously anymore.

I think it's an idea worth trying. They don't respond to posts in the forum, and the CSM is a joke (the handpicked ppl that are in it seem to normally ask inane questions about weapon damage and total irrelevant rubbish.
On reading the last CSM I see that one person actually started to ask proper questions and was cut off and the CSM ended.
We need ppl asking when the patch is, why the hell they aren't communicating anymore and where is the damn content.
Unfortunately they can cancele the CSM when it suits them.
The CSM ppl deserve a kick in tha a$$ tho, as the generally totally let them off the hook.

First rule of development - no one talks about development. Oh, no that's something else.
First rule of development - never give timescales you can't meet.
Second rule of development - if you do realise you're going to miss a deadline, tell the customer quickly. Apologise. Come up with a new deadline that you won't miss and give them that, quickly. Apologise again, just to be nice.
Third rule of development - don't make sarcastic comments to your customers when you fail to provide what you have promised.
Finally, to your question. If you have some new fuctionality but don't know when it will go live, how about saying "there's gonna be this great stuff, but we can't give you a timescale yet". This is better than both "Two weeks" and "soon" because it is true and they are false.

Look at the build numbers: 1002, 1031, 1052, 1054, 1058, etc... If they're changing build numbers with every "stable" build (a common SW Dev practice) why can't we get a patch every 5th or even 10th build.
I agree with Sirrah in that something needs to be done; however, I don't believe that this is going to help anything. Yes, it MIGHT catch CCPs attention, but the general feeling I get is that CCP could give a flip.
It's a start and I'm in, but CCP better start delivering or they'll lose me and others in early December when "Horizons" comes out.

You could replace "soon" with terms like next patch, short term, in a few months, long term, in a few years, next expansion, never, and still be able to communicate better while not setting up hard deadlines for yourselves.
"Soon" has reached the point where it's = "never". Much like Verant's "vision", if you want a specific example.

Instead of not logging in, how about everyone who's ****ed at CCP Load thier Indy's up with secure cans and make their way to Ammar. Park the Indys & cans on the approaches to the gates, with protest banners attached. Im sure it wouldnt take many people to the blackhole the system. Keep doing this day after day and sooner or later after numerous reboots they will get the idea.
This worked in EQ, i cant see any reason why it wouldnt work in EVE. Why have a silent protest, which is easy to ignore? |

Well, I agree with Sirrah. Though the thing that keeps pushing up my percentage that I'll leave this month is the same bugs happen over and over. Personally I'd rather seem the bugs disappear, or atleast the on going or most hazardous ones (such as your cap not being displayed right as you drain it with as many capacitor relays as you can fit) be fixed before adding more content. I agree it's nice to have new content, and makes mining a little more easy to bare with miner 2s. But, I'm sick of the bugs. Oh and the map bug, my god! Has the "display pilots in space" every truely worked? What's the point in having the feature if it doesn't work? So I'll definately do this, especially when I read several weeks back how CCP was hoping to break a record of having most people online at once. That made me want to rebel. I feel I pay for a service that I should get reimbursed for rather often, with how many times I've not been able to play due to a system having problems or some other silly bug.
but don't get me wrong, I love the game and feel it could be or get a lot better.

The day has arrived and coincidently, it falls on Election Day in the USA. So, as a way to voice my opinion and vote, I have planned not to log on this entire day. During the past few days, there has been a lot of unease with many players. This can be seen here in a thread concerning the response to the CSM questions. It is situations like these that makes EVE look bad and I wish they would do something about it. I was pleased to see a new post in the Dev Blog, but CCP has to regain my trust in them by fulfilling their statements.
This Log Out is the best way I could think of to show CCP that many players are disappointed in the way they have handled communication. I do not want to cancel my account since I am not for certain how Soon(TM) CCP will address these issues. I also do not want to create a larger workload for them by either sending them massive quantities of Emails/letters or griefing the game by dropping secured cans all over one system. My was to show dissatisfaction it by making them look back at the day where no one logged on to EVE BY CHOICE. Hopefully with enough people participating, we can get this issue addressed.
PS I appreciate your response nunnumunnur as it has helped my opinions with the Dev Team.

Ok, it's not what I wanted to hear, like many others. But it proves CCP has not forgotten about us. Now, there is this interview at EVE Gate.
