The career agents are drawn out and require more time to finish with no real rewards in the scheme of the market of this game. The rewards are there to teach you and get you started... not give you the ability to be "competitive" on the market. If the rookie mission rewards gave you any significant purchasing power on the market then many players (even ones who do not need to run them) would... just because they are stupid easy (for anyone with experience).
As far as information goes... more is better. Some of it might not make sense NOW... but it will "click" later on.
VNCX wrote:I also realised that the "Rookie Help" is simply full of people with ego's who spend more time arguing with each other than helping people like myself with questions. This is because... a. things are open-ended in this game, so there are LOTS of opinions on what is right and wrong. b. everyone assumes THEY are right and everyone else is wrong.
This isn't a problem with the chats per se... this is a problem with people in general (in and out of game).
PLUS... most people who play EVE are detail-oriented freaks of nature (they are to nerds what nerds are to normal people). Consequently... many people here will get hung up over a 0.4% detail that might not seem like much to you... but is HUGE when you are trying to do something "correctly."
VNCX wrote:The corporation chat i joined when i joined EvE Online CLEARLY needs to be monitored by a Dev or GM. The sheer ego and abuse these players project towards each other is disgusting. Not to mention that every new player to EvE is greeted as a "spy" or an "informant". This is unacceptable. I was called an alt no less than three times and out right accused of being a "informant in the making". Bear in mind that whatever egos you see in the Rookie Chat pale in comparison to those found in more organized player structures. You haven't seen anything until you hear a 40 year old man break down into a frothing mess of angst and profanity because some nameless person in a fleet pressed F1 rather than F2. Here, in EVE, you have to appreciate and have a sense of humor regarding how emotional people can be over asinine things.
With the alt, spy, and informant thing... - it is a joke used by more experienced players regarding anyone new... either to the game or to any particular organization (the reason is in the next point) - veteran players will often create new characters, on new accounts for the SOLE PURPOSE of infiltrating established corporations... either to spy for their own organization, wreak havoc and dissent among the ranks, steal common assets, or assassinate other players. There is no way to prevent this. And yes, this is perfectly legal according to the DEVs.
VNCX wrote:I then joined a corporation after searching for 12 hours or so for a corporation as i wanted to join a small corporation to learn more 1 on 1. But i was rejected by no less than 14 CEOS & officers for being "to new" or "an obvious spy alt". FYI... more experienced and/or "elite" corps won't always take on newbies because training someone 1 on 1 is time consuming, does not always "bear fruit," and is risky (due to spies, infiltrators)
The trick is that you have to CONVINCE them that you are worth their time and the risk you may open them up to. A good mentality (bloodthirsty yet relaxed for PvP corps... inquisitive and patient for more Industry-PvE centric corps).
VNCX wrote:My disgust for EvE then went up even further when the corporation i joined, was war decked and then the CEO told all of the corp to leave as he was disbanding the corporation. You joined a bad corporation. Don't let it get you down. It happens.
VNCX wrote: CCP clearly needs to do more to protect new players, monitor the new player corporation chats and help them more. Because it would seem the "paranoid" behaviour of every CEO in this game, is to treat any player under 5million skill points as an "obvious alt".
Paranoia is a theme in the game. There is a saying in EVE; "Trust is the most valued commodity." There is not much you can do to change this without gutting most of the gameplay options throughout the rest of the game... which is not something many people would like as it would fundamentally alter the game's character at its core (see: "a dark, gritty, and harsh universe").
As for "protecting" new players... things were MUCH worse when I started. At least you don't have people camping and blowing up newbies in the rookie system for giggles (though, they did give away money quite often if you were a good sport about it).
If mere words, conduct, complicated mechanics, and being denied opportunities really bother you... you will definitely have trouble later on in the game where things get MUCH more profane, angsty, complicated, and competitive. Don't take it personally. Not every game is suited for every player.
The SP System
How did you start?
