The biggest number of skills is based on perception right now, as everybody knows. Charisma is on the very end of the list. So wouldn't it be nice to even these proportions? Let there be new skills (dont change the existing ones) based on less popular attributes. Why to favor one attribute over other? Let the skill tree be just for everyone. Amen. :)
Take care!

To expand on the previous post, my torp's or cruise missiles don't give a damn about my charisma :)
Now on the other hand any sort of flight related skill needs intelligence/perception/memory based skills, leadership a combination of willpower and charisma, learning varies, social charisma/willpower, corp all, science intel/memory
So don't think the balance is too far out of kilter at the moment.

The point is, most players during character creation will boost their perception and intelligence, because these attributes will speed up the biggest number of skills, especially in long term. Charisma is usually the lowest. IMHO a skill tree favouring one way of char creating is a bit boring. One way of char creating should have as many advantages as any other way. For now it has not. There are so many ways to play EVE, not only warlord-like.

If you boost Charm you can be a Corp leader, a business man, or a Mission runner and probably a couple other things that I'm missing.
With Perception you can be a pilot or a fighter. With Memory you can be a tackler, or a fighter.
Actually, if you look at it in balance issues.... you have more profession choices with Charm than you do with the other skills.

The OP is right that charisma is weak at the moment, and Oveur has said so himself. He also said that they plan to introduce more gang, trade, etc skills over time that will need charisma.

Pod pilots have an NPC crew, according to the backstory. A pilot with good social skills could conceivably get better performance out of his crew by raising their morale. Of course our crews are currently almost invisible in the game system, so some new crew-related content would need to be added.

Hmm.. I missed that part of the backstory. I always thought that being a pod pilot, everything was neurally interfaced into your brain.

Yeah, it's a little muddy to me, too. I guess bigger ships have crews that maintain them and keep all the gear in working order while the pod pilot actually controls the function of the ship. A neural interface is good for adjusting your point-of-aim, but it won't grease the pivots or refill your hydraulic master cylinder.
I'd like to see a raft of leadership skills that affect combat performance like damage, tracking, etc.

Honestly Redart, I don't think it's something YOU would ever have to worry about. --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Cleese: "I've told you once." |
