EVE is one of the most underrated MMORPG out there! You guys need to get the word out. Start to advertise heavily in the US and other parts of the world.
Why don't you release some player made combat videos? Some of these huge battles are simply amazing to watch. Show the world what EVE players have created. THe high level of organization of some corporations, the complex social politics, player made stories etc.
Why don't you start a free trial? There is this horrible misconception going around that EVE is this empty space game that takes weeks to travel around and skills take month's to train. People say this game is lame, they are just misinformed. Give people the chance to check it out for 15 days. Let them see the potential this game has. Make the initial stages of new players more fun and engaging. Don't dump them into the world directly into mining and other boring monotomous activities. Create some n00b agent missions that are fun and informative as far as game systems and how the game works. Perhaps some missions that introduce the new players to the story and the conflict in the game. You need to tingle the imagination form the start.
This game needs a bigger influx of new players if it plans to survive. We need new players to recruit and keep Corp's fresh and alive. Recruitment in this game is horrible. All you get is a bunch of infiltrators, spies and thieves.
I have been going around the net checking MMO's being released in the near future and others next year and beyond, there is nothing that comes even close to bringing a space based game the offers the game elements EVE has and *will* have. You guys need to take advantage of this unique experience, specially for the people sick and tired of the fantasy hack and slash games.
Lets get this game going CCP! Release more game content before the years end. Lets get some nasty empire conflict going. Lets give current players and corporations a purpose.
I know EVE is in its infancy, it is still wearing ****y diapers from beta. Lets wipe that bum and start growing and maturing!

Quote: I couldn't agree more. Most of the gamers I mention EvE to have never heard of it
This is the case unfortunately. Word of mouth only gets you so much...slowly.
CCP should start a massive advertising campaing displaying what truly sets it appart from the rest of the crowd.

All around I agree but the free 30 days you get when you sign up don't count? :)
That requires people to buy the game in the first place. They need to have a free trial with a downloadable version of the game. People are more willing to invest the time doing that compared to actually making a monetary investment, on something they are not sure about.

Quote: can anyone even imagine the horrors committed with free accounts by the 'nasty' people?
using trial accounts to spy on people, to attack in 1.0, etc.
Probably not such a good idea
Although releasing player videos *is* a good idea. I think they may start with footage from the amarr tourney.
Doing free trials for your game is *always* a good idea. This scenario you paint is overly pessimistic. What kind of damage can you do with a 15 day old n00b character anyway? I can certainly imagine these guys in their Ibis trying to kill people but getting pwned by Concord in 1.0. I don't even hear of griefers wasting their time with a n00b alt character in 1.0 space bugging the newbies. I don't see it as a big con against the pros of having new people checkout the game for 15 days.

Quote: What about setting up some trial systems on the Chaos server? No need to worry about spies...
I don't think that would help. Imagine logging into the game only to find 15 people online.
