How long does it take to cloak after you hit the button, is it instant?

Yes, thats true according to your own screen. According to others watching, about 3-5 seconds you'll be seen. I dont know how long of that you're lockable....but you'll be seen.

(with no lag) if you initate warp and hit your cloak immediately (covert ops) you will NOT be seen on a watchers overview..
given good network stability and good timing it is possible to move thru a system without ever breaking 'overview invisability'

In the past, I have gotten away from gate camps many times by hitting the cloak right after I began to accelerate. However, I hear that its alot harder nowdays with that cloaking bug taken into consideration. I haven't done much cloaking since that bug came out. Is the bug fixed, or is it still a "feature"?

If the bug you are refering to is the one that would cause a cloaked ship to be de-cloaked once a locking cycle was completed (as oppsed to the lock failing), then yes, this bug has been fixed.
Once a ship is cloaked, all lock cycles are broken.
Trust me, I lost my arazu to this bug but I'm back flying it again because it's been fixed.

Edited by: Dahin on 16/10/2006 05:34:28 Cloaking is instantaneous (how the hell do you spell this word?) What the others tell you as "beeing visible for 3-5 seconds" is the lag. They can't lock you.
It's kinda the same with docking and jumping. For a short while he seems to be there but he actually isn't.
If you time it right it's impossible even for someone with 5k of sensors to lock you before cloaking. Actually you cloak before they even see you in their overview. I've seen this with people. I'd cloak and after .5-1secs I'd hear "hey, I saw you". And that's with a reasonalbe 50-100ms vent lag.

If you time it right you wont show up on your own screen, but anyone else in the area will see you on overview for a few seconds. But unless they can instalock you, they cant get a target lock. Thats what made the "cloaking bug" with Dragon code so nasty though... is that for a while (till they fixed it) if someone even started to target you during those couple seconds you were visible, their lock would finish (even after you cloaked) and then decloak you.

not true. You wont be seen on your own screen, but you will be seen briefly on others screens. Trust me on this. Ive spent most of the last year in either a covert ops or force recon.

extensive 'field' tests say you are wrong.. both from multi clients on the same machine, Seperate clients on seperate machines(same lan) and from gang/team mate observation (as far away as US/AUS)
it IS LAG DEPENDANT.
I'd provide fraps, but that would be telling.. and you wouldnt see anything anyway. :P
as i was one of the first pilots in covert ops.. i'll trust our own extensive internal testing before most could spell cloak...
again.. it IS LAG DEPENDANT. on a 56k or an overloaded node.. yea you might be seen..
