Polinus; in the dark past of EVE, if one module gave you 20% to damage, then a second of the same type, or affecting the same stat, would give you another 20% ON TOP of the 120% you already had, the third another and so on...with five 20% modules in low slots, you did MASSIVE damage.
Then CCP introduced stacking penalties...If the first module gave you 20%, then the second of the same type or affecting the same stat only gave you (roughly)10%, the third 5% and so on...basically, the more you fitted, the worse they got.
CCP have since "boosted" the stacking rules so that fitting any more than three identical modules is pretty close to pointless.
I think it's a good thing, but some of the whiny pirates want their "one-shot-kills-anything" ships back...
