Sometimes faction mods can save your arse ..
I think he was after more "combat tactic" suggestions.
We all know the safest thing is to stay docked but then Eve would be kinda boring.

loose the booster, mount another shield expander. in combat you wont have cap to run em all. unless the battle lasts over 4 minutes you are better off passive tanking.
and get Light ECM drones isntead of warriors. especially if you wanna solo kill battleships.

As for flying the ship, use barrage, period. Never enter web range if you can avoid it. The moment you get webbed, you're ******. Also, watch out for faction webifiers and ships such as the huginn and the rapier - they can really ruin your day (though, if you're in range to hit with barrage, you should be able to kill a lone huginn or rapier with little effort if it's not jamming you). Orbit between 15km and 20km to avoid the risk of getting hit with a domi web.
As the above poster stated, ECM drones are your friend. Lacking a web of your own, they can help you get out of web range and turn the tide of a fight.
In regards to fighting ravens, you are most vulnerable when the MWD is active and your speed is not yet sufficient to cause the damage to be significantly reduced. If you're fighting a raven and your MWD isn't active, turning it on while the raven is firing at you could result in the loss of your ship. -Wrayeth

100(1.125/.895)/(1.1/.895) = 2.27% DPS Difference.
160M for 10-20 Extra DPS, not worth it in my book.

And try to stay away from Curse, they can drain u in no time leaving u cap-less and u won't be able to MWD away from him. Remember, if he's using a tracking disruptor on u, your guns will never hit him, never. Watchout for AC tempests too, with barrage they have a good chance of hitting u even when u orbit around 20-25kms.

I would say loose the sheild extender, in a ship that fast, id think you would want to go with the fact that your harder to hit, not make it easier, maybee put on a sheild recharger instead? or an invuln field, resists are always better than more sheilds.

Resists are not always better than more shields. For a hit and run ship like the Vaga you will get more value from the extra shields. The vaga doesn't have huge amounts of cap to be running hardeners or boosters. It is also a very fast ship so the hit you take to sig radius is not a particularly big deal. If you have bitten off more than you can chew you do what the vaga does best....run away very fast. Note: you'll need PDU IIs as I recall for that 2nd extender however.

wouldn't it be much more efficient to get used to the style of a vagabond through flying around for a few weeks in a t2 fitted stabber? so that you learn the basics for the ship (though vagabond is a *much* better ship than a stabber - you can still learn a lot from flying with the t1 version)
... anyways tips that you read on the forum won't safe your ass - in a combat situation you need to be able to react instinctivly(sp?). ___________________

Definitely fly around in a stabber or jaguar beforehand if you haven't already...learn the basics of soloing, learn the intricacies of the systems and regions you are planning on hunting in.
90% of staying alive in that ship is the legwork of doing pre-combat intelligence. The rest is fairly easy.

- Stay out of web range as much as possibe - Only use HAIL ammo in a gang - If your finding it hard to hit a target, fly in a straight line, the target ship will start to do an approach movement reducing thier transversal (I think...works for me) - A Raven with Javelin torps will surely kill you - If engaging something that uses drones as a primary weapon, destroy them ASAP, this also applies for any combat support drones - Dont use stabs, use nanofibers instead..
