I just want to voice one small thing with the game.
1. Its great and many more people should be playing it.
2. Being called a "M0T%$@ Fv^%$#" in under 24 hours of playing the game just because I stopped to watch some one mine doesn't sit to good with me.
The person did have cargo containers out and was strip mining the asteroid field. I did stop by and take a look and check out the new ship that i have never seen before but I didn't steal a thing.
And then to be sworn/cussed out on the local channe; while others could see; about how I stole ore (When I didnt) and how they were going to kill me if I showed up again, gave not only myself a great sense of discontent for EVE but also I was showing friends the game at the same time and they lost interest too.
So ---- If you see a little velator or "Atron" in my case -- don't abuse the hell out of them, maybe use 100 ISK of the 50,000,000 ISK horde you took out of that roid field to do a one on one civilized chat and ask whats going on or why did they stop by.
A bit more common sense and common courtesy will go a long way in EVE and with the community.
Thanks -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Some people can be abit defensive due to all the "ore theft" that was/is going on. Just keep playing. In time you'll meet some good people and maybe get in or start a good corp. I played solo for months and since joining PIE not too long ago my enjoyement of Eve has only improved. Making alot less isk now, but having others to participate in activities with more than makes up for it. Switch to an Amarr character while you're still new and maybe we can find a place for you in PIE. If you don't mind hunting down pirates and boasting about beating your slaves.
For you bitter people, don't bother with any anti-PIE flames. I 've heard it already and I know the truth beneath the lie's. Everybody loves some PIE.

Shame you bumped into, well, a meathead. But, be aware a lot of people are VERY protective of their ore - even to the point of sheer stupidity.
As for me, a couple of times I've been sitting there mining, and seen someone in an Ibis rock up and start cutting a nearby roid. When I see that, my usual action is to wire them 50k and tell them to go buy themselves a Bantam and some Miner 1's and make some cash :P
I mean, 50k is a pittance for me, but it's a fortune for someone starting off.

haha....
that's called role playing.... you come across a lonely paranoid schizo miner that's spent weeks finding the perfect belt... and he started yelling and cursing just for being there....
sounds just about right to me...
haven't you seen any old bogart movies?
sheesh... we go out of our way to act in-character for the new guy and he doesn't appreciate it!

True, I am from beta, I only had the EVE game delicered to me a couple of days ago and this weekend is my very first "retail" time at playing.
Quite a warm and welcome feeling I had when I stumbled into that person.<sarcasm>

Yeah there are some real jerks about... I mean the only time I get a little worried bout my ore (when I'm incsecure can mining!) is when a indi jumps in belt and starts poking about... other than that.. nah. I welcome them and as a previous poster said.. help them out a bit... I wish someone would have done that for me!!

I'm glad I didn't experience that. Atleast you had played beta and knew somewhat how the game works. Just imagine a total newbie exploring and coming across a guy like that not realizing what was going on.
I remember someone giving me 50k too in the begining. helped to get my Probe ship. I have the saved with a note so I won't forget.
What kind of ship were you in when you approached the guy, was it just a frigate? If you were in a frigate, what the hell did the guy have to worry about, not much you could steal in one anyway, unless you were in an indy. And what a jerk to just start accusing you of stealing ore. Hope you got down his name with a note to get back at him someday. It sounded like he didn't listen to anything you probably said.
I'm pretty good guy in the game, never would I treat someone like that, even if they stole ore if I decided to do unsecure mining. One time while mining in a 1.0 system a missle boat and another ship came up to an indy that had been sitting, they fired apon it. They must have been in the same corp. After it exploded they started on the pod. I swooped in for the heck and picked up the droppings with my indy. I did get hit, but I got to a station safely (this was in a 1.0 system I remind you) Later the player who owned the indy put a bounty out for them, I guess they joined their corp to be traiters. I told him what I saw and sent him the value of what I picked up, something like 136k. I could have kept my mouth shut and kept it, but I didn't. That was a lot too for me then.
I've met a lot of good people in the corp chat, I'm glad I haven't come across some of the ugly people yet, besides those that roleplay -10 pirates.

That's nothing Ariell... There's these people that go on and on about how you were mistreated as a kid, and are anti social, etc. after you blow up just one industrial... They also keep calling you a coward for not facing 3 battleships surrounded by drones when you're in a cruiser yourself... |

Slap an afterburner on your Atron and ram the can next time

Yes, one thing you have to know, the live community is different from the beta community. To put it mildly, a lot of people enjoy "roleplaying" stealing, scamming, and generally evil / nasty characters. Corporations lose their blueprints and hangar contents to thieves all the time, and miners, if their ore isn't stolen, their cargo containers are shot at and destroyed.
The guy lied about what you did, and it's his fault that he didn't check / keep track of his ore numbers, and that he got too paranoid about a frigate-size cargo hold, but honestly, if a newbie-corporated 0.0 sec.status player in a frigate approached me while I was mining, without so much as a "Hi, wow what ship is that!", I'd probably be wary too.
Lots of things could happen... he could be the "warp to gang member" point of a larger force, he could be trying to scan my pods to blow them up... Heck, we keep hearing about ships being blown up in 1.0 secure space, and I don't see how a frigate could do it, but who knows what exploits are out there? |

Welcome to the EVE community Ariell.
I am sorry you had such a bad experience, but many people have lost ore to thieves and have been abused by these types. Perhaps, a conversation in the local channel, asking if it's ok to take a closer look at the ship may help smooth things in the future.
Best of luck, and keep safe.
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

Ariell,
Just steal it for real for now on. They will always claim you are KOS, and what not, but never follow through. Oh well, it's people like me that make people like you look bad
PS: If anyone knows where Mercs inc. hangs out send me an evemail, I have a few missiles to send up their tail pipes. The dum dums.

Though I have experienced a lot of ore theft, I always ask ppl who jumps into the belt what they are looking for. It never happened that someone didnt answered, but in the case of no response and moving towards te container I would no doubt open fire regardless of the sec status. (But that has never been the case) Most of those that jumped in say that they are looking for NPC pirates or they want to mine in the belt (which I tell them to go to another belt if possible, because of the lacking trust between strangers) BUT NEVER EVER swear or insult.
BTW "Clay101" is a loot and ore thief, take care of your stuff if u see him in local.

Agreed. There is no need for abusive and personal remarks in Eve at all. And it does shut them up...

A good example of how this game gets into your skin. You threatened his business and he got angry. Although I don't like the trash talk part of it.
Keep at it. Plenty of great people playing this game.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Yeah, that sucks.
If it was low sec system, id love to help you out by blowing up his containers .
I dont like smartass miners .
Most ppl in this game are real nice, but u do get a few fools.
If u are looking for a corp, i would highly recommend PIE.

Ariel. If you get put off by one flame like that online gaming probably isn't for you. It's a simple fact that out of 100 randomly picked persons in an internet game at least 50 are jerks. I played CS. Finding a server where the smacktards didn't dominate the server was pretty much impossible. When BF1942 came out it was the same deal. People shooting their teammates. Planecamping etc etc. I had to get in to a passworded server before I could enjoy the game at all. Why should EVE be different?

*waves*
The beta community is quite different to the community we have now, one reason why is that people are now paying for the game, rather than testing altruistically (alright, so some of us clamoured to get into beta), another is that they were not specially picked to play the game (retail effect), and so there is less loyalty to CCP. This is to be expected, and I understand why, and it's no different anywhere else.
I don't think that the live community is much different to the beta community in terms of behaviour, though we continue to see new problems (and also good things). The beta community had PITAs, and so does live. Unfortunately it sounds like you found the bad part straight away.
Hope you're enjoying live, and all the extra things that are here now. --
