Just curious, but what is everyone's favorite bands and why?
Here are mine:
(1) Dragonforce(metal) - For their sheer face melting guitar work. Espcecially live these guys will melt your face off with precision guitarwork.
(2) Epica(gothic) - Simone Simmons voice is for sure the best female vocalist I have ever heard in my life. If you havn't heard her sing I would suggest checking her out on youtube or myspace music.

Man this is a ******* tough one, I have lot's of band that are my favorites.
But i'll go with:
Slayer. The band which name cannot be said but must be screamed SLAAAAYEEEEER!
Ministry. Industrial metal at it's absolute best + Allen Jourgensen's relentless hate of Religion, Governments and so on.

Does Epica sound sort of like Nightwish? If so than I am definetely going to listen to their music. I fell in love with Nightwish about 2 weeks ago when I saw some of their live videos on youtube. I also saw some of the Dragonforce stuff on youtube. Damnit, Youtube is the best website in years. It's helping me explore stuff I never tried or let me see things I haven't seen in AGES. I recently watched one of Candlemass's early videos....LOLERSKATES!!!! Great band, goofy videos.
Favorite bands....its pretty hard to pin down my favorites. But I will have to go with Tool and Smashing Pumpkins.
ps, any other bands that sound a lot like Nightwish out there? They fired their singer so it might be some time before they find someone as ****ing awesome as her and I wanted to see if there are any other bands that have their songwriting ability and musicianship and goth/vampire feel.

1: nina simone , much like football, if you dont like her music you dont have a soul.
2: no means no , simply put far better than any live band theres ever been.
but its hard to pick just 2 bands. the old old blues guys that 90% of ppl have no idea who they where and what a impact they had on moden music. then add in ppl like frank sinatra and dolly parton, and its impossable.
And as for nightwish and co... pffttt listen to real music once in a while huh. Still there no accounting for taste i guess.

Dissection, best BM band ever, no doubt about it. With releses such as Storm of the light's bane and The Somberlain, truly dark and evil without getting cheesy. They deserve no other spot.
Second place goes to Kent for their slow and emotional songs witch almost everyone can relate to. Well, everyone that understand swedish anyway.

And for the dragonforce fans, I saw them at download festival this year and they sucked. Proper power metal 4tw, Dragonforce 4tl. Suck on that Dark Shikari

1) The Smiths :- Morrissey and Marr - total genius. Still follow Mozzer now he is solo - Birmingham NIA 7th December is the next gig I will be attending. He still plays alot of the old Smiths tracks and there is no better frontman for a Smiths tribute band.
2) Talking Heads :- a great combination of lyrics, music and insanity.

Well, my favorites are at the moment maybe these:
1) Amon Tobin, Very nice combining of many layers of samples and instruments together, making it sound like Drum and Bass/Ambient/Electronica, you have to hear it yourself to understand
The second one is a bit tougher to choose
2)K-Os, A great rapper, you can clearly separate this from the mainstream rappers by just listening to the words of this guy
