So the solution to skynet was to remove the limit of up to what you can control (1-5), to be switching to assist that is given a max of up to 50? I am looking forward to this. |

As long as the carrier is on grid it's no problem to assist.

Calling it right now.
Fighters will end up counting for ten each on your drone assist cap.

No. The solution to "assigning" drones while not on grid (skynetting) was to remove the ability to assigning drones while not on grid. Note that I took the liberty to pretend actually controlling drones assigned to you isn't relevant. |

To assist fighters, the carrier has to be on grid and the pilot can only launch the number of fighters he/she is able to and can either control them directly, or assist them to someone else.
If they are assisted to someone else, they'll count towards the 50 that can be assisted to that person.
It's not that the carrier pilot can launch 50 fighters from one carrier, so there aren't going to be any more fighters on grid under an assist than there would be otherwise.

Pretty much. Now at a gate camp instead of a little ship being delegated 5 fighters by a carrier that is off grid (at a pos or something), the carrier will be 250 k away (but "on grid" aligned to the POS) while that single little ship controls up to 15 fighters. The carrier will be in marginally more 'danger' (but very few carriers will die) while the little ship involved jsut got up to 3 times more powerful
You see, the people who got owned by Skynet were so mad at it that any change seemed like a good one to them. And CCP just followed the standard "hmmm, need a scalpel for this, must use sledge hammer" way of correcting imbalances (lol). The end result will probably be that the situation was made worse while maybe a handful more carriers die.
This rather than what many players suggested, either rolling back CCPs changes that created the problem (it was their allowing fighters to receive pilot skill and drone mod bonuses that created skynet, not the already existing Delegation mechanic) OR limiting 'receiving ship' bandwidth wise (meaning ceptors and the like would be able to be delegated fighters), they chose to attack something that didn't create the problem, killing a unique and not overpower old mechanic instead of correcting their own mistake.
CCP's solution is like calling 911 because there is a loud party next door, and the Police Department's response is to burn down YOUR house (which does solve the problem, you can't even hear the noise if you don't even live their anymore) lol. |

My parents live in a pretty small town, and much the same thing happened about a year and a half ago, except there was a third house burned down by it's owner in the process of trying to get rid of the evidence of an enormous underground weed farm.

what this means is the super/carrier would need to be on grid to assign the fighters to assist or guard, they will not warp with you like they used to and you cannot control them once they assist/guard you... like normal drones...
so yes they have taken fighter assist away, and by having a super on grid still potentially means it can die even if it is 250-300km away.... it only takes 1 person to be able to get a warp in with a bubble..
so it is no longer safe in a pos which is another thing people cried about... you cant now claim that because it can use its fighters as drones its over powered... people asked for fighter assist to be taken away it was....
its like all other ships with drones now has to be on grid but can still help out friendlies.. |

Don't forget that the "on-grid carrier" can be much farther away than that with some grid stretching shenanigans! |

The idea is not to have a carrier sitting at a safe spot somewhere while someone in a T1 frigate goes about with 5 fighters cheaply owning everything while risking next to nothing.
