Alrighty i'm training up connections but its a slow train and i'm doing lvl 2 missions in a maller.... I can also fly an interceptor but don't currently own one as i can't use t2 small guns yet.... i'm having trouble with some of the lvl 2 missions in the cruiser as the drones or frigates just orbit too close.... my current fit is 3 medium guns and 2 small guns... i was curious if someone can help me with my frigate/drone problem... i almsot got wasted last night a few times by stupid little frigates

get lots of small beam lasers, strap to an omen, stay away with ur ab, laser away... tank if you like too but in the case of omen damage mods and nanos seem to work best for pve.

This problem is more common than I would have thought. There were two people yesterday that complained about this to me. With both (a Punisher in level 1 missions and a Maller in level 2 missions) the problem boiled down to simply not knowing how to fight their ships.
With both I was able to gang with them into a mission and show them the basic tactics against small, fast targets and they were amazed at how easy the missions became... without changing their fittings at all.
My recomendation is to stop worrying how to fit your T1 ships and simply start trying to figure out how to fight them effectively. Usually you can find someone in the rookiecorp channel that is more than willing to go with you on a mission and explain what you are doing wrong.
BTW, the with both the Maller and Punisher I ganged with to see what they were doing, both were guilty of the exact same mistake, and it was a mistake the tutorial warned you about. Flying into a swarm of enemies and stopping.

lol when i made this character there was no tutorial.... but ya it was a pilot problem and not really a fitting probably.... keep em at range and the frigates go pop to the medium guns....
Thanks for all the replies though =)

Dont forget to fit a webbie, it's the only module you need to hit frigates with medium guns. :)

Yea ive been doing level 1s in my Omen (trying to get Fed navy standings up while I wait for my BS so I breaze through level 3s) and Ive noticed that a webber and a couple of drones and a tracking enhancer go a long way when going after frigates, also hitting them before they get to the distance they are hard to hit at helps a bit also

I too do lvl 2's in a Omen. At first I had a big problem hitting anything with Med Pulse Lasers until i got a tracking enchancer and a Webber. Getting your Motion Prediction skill up helps too. Even though I fly a Omen, this will apply for a Maller as well.
The thing about an Omen is that you have that slot for an Assault Launcher which helps a lot using standard missles. Even if your lasers miss a couple of rounds, the missle will not as long as it is in range so you are usually at least doing some damage.
The tradeoff is the Omen is fragile while a Maller can tank much better but since I got my mods and my skills up, I haven't had any problems with lvl 2 missions since.
