Why are they so low compared to... everything? Most cruisers have around 10-20m3, and most Battleships have 75-125m3 (though there are obvious exceptions on each end). Now i thought the battle cruiser was supposed to me the intermediary between the cruiser and battleship (hence battle+cruiser). While the Brutix and Cyclone match this trend (50m3 and 40m3 respectivly), the Prophecy and Ferox only have 25m3. 5 light scout drones is "decent" for taking on small/weak frigs and drones but anything bigger and their damage is nominal. You really need to be able to fit 4 or 5 medium scouts for them to be of any use. Any reason why the Drone Bay on these two ships is so low?
ps. All I've heard so far (for the Ferox at least) is that "its good enough already", "missiles are too easy", or other similar nonsense. Every ship is good in the right hands, and the Brutix and Cyclone are just as good as a Ferox or Propecy in terms of their other stats.

The drone bay is small because Calderi and Amarr are not drone using races.

Even though, in great irony, Amarr is the only race besides Gallente that get dedicated drone ships (i.e. Arbitrator, Pilgrim, Curse)

Actually every race is a drone using race. Each race has their own drones (eg Caldari = Hornet, Vespa, Wasp)

The Ferox and Phrophecy shouldnt have to be classified as "drone boats" just to be able to get an equal drone bay size as the other BCs. "Drone boats" like the Domi and Arbi have higher drone bays and often drone bonuses at the expense of "standard" weapon usage (turrerts/launchers and the PG to fit them), thus i would consider them to be drone boats. None of the BCs really fit this format, and yet the Ferox and Phrophecy have a much smaller drone bay size.
Gallente are huge drone users, so they need a larger drone bay. And the cyclone, kind of takes over a smaller varient of the phoon's bay.

har har. But seriously i have yet to see a solid reason for the Ferox and Prophecy not having the same dronebay sizes as the other BCs.

Because the ferox only requires a dronebay for anti-frigate defense. Five lights are better than five mediums for that task. Anyway, drones, of any sort, on a ferox are less than usefull when useing the ship as a long range rail sniper. When useing the passive tanked missile setup (easy mode) frigates are annoying and haveing those lights comes in handy.

It'd be nice, but I'd have to say no as the Myrmiddon (sp?) is going to become the primary drone ship. Although if it keeps the 100m3 stat with no per-level bay bonus, I'll have a bone to pick with that size.

Welcome to the wonderful world of backstory. Technically every race is a missile using race too as each of the 4 damages of missiles are made by a different race. When it comes to ship design however, it means nothing.
Gallente get their drone bay because they are the masters of drones (I really doubt anyone will dispute that). It also helps to make up for the pitiful range on blasters.
Minmatar get them because they get everything in small doses.
Caldari don't get them because they are a long ranged race. Yes you can bring them in at close range but that's more to do with the overpoweredness of missiles at any range than anything else tbh. Virtually every Caldari ship has a range bonus on it.
Amarr get a varying amount of drone bays depending on the ship ("lots" for the battleships, "bugger all" for anything else). However, they do have 3 dedicated drone ships - the Arbi and it's two T2 variants.
In order of drone bay sizes:
Gallente
Minmatar
Amarr
Caldari
In order of racial drone damage:
Gallente (Thermal)
Caldari (Kinetic)
Minmatar (Explosive)
Amarr (EM)
In order of ships with drone bonuses:
Gallente
Amarr
Caldari/Minmatar

5 light drones should be more than sufficient to see off any frigate. I really don't see the problem here. |
