Hi, Bit of a newbie question, but how do you operate the doomsday device? Do you need the cyno feild open for an hour to fire it? or can you for example, sneak a recon ship, uncloak, cyno, and blow up a fleet?
Thanks.

unless you're part of a 5000 man alliance don't worry about it.

WoW! thats one nice answer mate, I wonder if the world wouldnt be a far better place if no one asked questions that didnt regard them directly and just shut up. FYI logistically it's quite possible for a 600 man alliance to manufacture a titan, just takes a while longer than for a 5000 manned one.
As to the OP, as Ive heard it the cyno field just needs to be active, no time limit on how long so yes a sneaky cloaking cyno field guy would work. But as I remember also its not possible to keep both the cloak and the cyno field active on the ship at the same time. Unless that was a bug and has been fixed.

Since being a twit is too popular with the other people replying, I will give actual answers:
First, only a titan can operate a Doomsday weapon (thank God). It's much like a smart bomb, you activate it and it consumes a given amount of fuel (depending on the race/weapon).
It has a "down time" of 1 hour between firing.
A cyno field is only necessary to the ship moving from system to system, not for the weapon to fire.
-in theory- you could sneak in a recon ship cloaked, and cyno in a titan. However it's not like it's going to exactly be subtle and the titan will certainly be escorted by a fleet of lord only knows how many ships to protect it. In which case the doomsday weapon is actually more dangerous to the friendlies than the enemy.

You can set up a cyno and fire the doomsday directly through it.

bits and pieces of correct info here but mostly wrong . . .
A titan can fire at all player/player related targets....ships,cyno ect. A cyno can be deployed near an enemy fleet and fired on. There is an hour delay between firings. The actual shot is delayed while it travels the distance from point of fire to point of impact. for example the first titan firing occured at a pos and aimed at a cyno near a station, in the distance you could see a bright light comin at ya for aprox 10-12 seconds before it hit giving light ships or aligned ships a slight chance to warp away if not scrammed or in a bubble of some sort. The blast is said to effect all within the grid yet some pilots at the first firing were right on the edge of the grid "aprox 600km from the actual target cyno and they survived. . . ...The screen goes bright white..anyone close is toast... You can kill more friendly pilots than hostile pilots with youre doomsday if youre not careful . .. hehe

titans can only fit 1 doomsday device, each race has a specific doomsday weapon. (each doomsdays is going to be boosted by 50% next patch)
amarr - Judgement - em 37,500hp consumes 75,000 helium isotopes caldari - Oblivion - kinetic 37,500hp consumes 75,000 nitrogen isotopes gallente - Aurora Ominae - thermal 37,500hp consumes 75,000 oxygen isotopes minmatar - Gjallahorn - explosive 37,500hp consumes 75,000 hydrogen isotopes
each has varying cap usages, but around 25k mark takes about 15 seconds to charge up and go kaboom
now the confusion about the cynosaural fields... a nifty thing a doomsday weapon can do is fire through a cyno field, so a recon cruiser could open a cyno field on one side, and one be opened by the titan, the titan can then unleash the power of the superweapon, on the opposite end of the cyno field, several stargate jumps away.
however doomsdays weapons aren't picky about what they blow up so enemies and freindies alike will go kaboom, as the first firing of judgement showed
hope that clears any misconceptions

Just pointing out - you can't fit cloaks and cynos at the same time (even on recons).
Yes. I know, it sounds stupid the first time you hear it said, but the devs insist this is an intended feature..

quickfit lies
oh well, just get 2 titans then. the second one would only cost half as much since you already have the BPs. or have 15phoons warp in and smartbomb everything.
you could have the cov-ops stay about 600k away from the group in question. how long does a cyno field take to activate anyway? idea: cloaked carrier drops off a cov-ops with cyno field. --- WCS Nerf boycott low-sec |

Actually no, you can only activate a doomsday on a cyno in the same system as the titan. _________________________

Yeah.. and they won't fix it anytime soon, so until then it's a feature. Read all tuxford's "insights" saying how it's good enough broken.

Wait... you can fit doomsday weapons on it? Then why is our's fitted with Miner II's...
Anyway, there is no limit on how long the cyno must have been open for, so in theory the recon generating a cyno would work...
But, unfortunately there's a delay between when you start seeing the flash of the doomsday device and when the damage is dealt, so an aligned fleet can usually escape before the doomsday goes off. ---------------------------------
