It seems "Assist and Defend" doesn't appears in game for fighters .... Is this a bug or devs decision?
You are looking at an old version of the patch notes, we have also removed the Assist and Defend options. Capital ships will be re-balanced later this year, we will make them awesome again!
Maybe make changes like totally removing features later in the year when you have something to replace them than.................................................... meantime there were plenty of options for fixing the skynet specific issues without wholesale removal of a long standing feature. Bad development is bad development no excuses. |

Boo hoo. SO now you can't use skynet and kill anything that moves from the safety of your POS shields. This Skynetting was a plague to this game and finally CCP removed it. And since skynetting was removed, fighers didn't really need to warp off grid now did they? The only people who complain about this issue are the ones who abused the hell out of it for easy killmails. The LARGE majority of EVE HATED it which is why CCP finally stepped up and removed it.
If you read any of the big threads on it you will find very little support for skynet but a lot of people who didn't want to see fighters nerfed into oblivion - people with capitals don't tend to draw attention to themselves but there are plenty of people who use fighters completely unrelated to skynet and several solid suggestions for ways to make fighters ineffective in skynet type use and carriers less able to keep themselves safe without fighters having their balls cut off. Just because people are against the removal of these features doesn't mean they are involved in or want to protect skynet.
Its a basic tenet of good game design that you don't wholesale remove a long standing feature pure due to exploit/unbalanced use in edge cases unless there is absolutely no other way to remedy it. |

Was out mining in a belt and some rats came in. released my five drones and they started off attacking the rats. Suddenly they disappear from my over view and move into a new section of the drone overview called "Drones in Deep Space." and i can't recover them, make them engage a target or see them in space. The "Drones in Deep Space" was visible before the drones disappeared and hasn't been seen since.
lol thats hilarious if normal drones are warping after targets. |

Galian Kile wrote:Why CCP Rise decided to call it Assist is everyones mystery.
Not really much of a mystery if you read through any of the big threads on it or even the wording of the blurb about it on the new update site its obvious the larger number of people - even some of those at CCP - have minimal knowledge at best of the subject and the real mechanics and terminology of it. (Which isn't entirely surprising given the nature of it in the wider context of eve - less mainstream, much longer to train for, etc.).
Even if Rise knew the difference his target audience largely wouldn't make the distinction between delegation and assist and assist is the better known one for having negative connotations in eve. |

But it's not going to change anytime soon. Solution: Just use your fighters to apply DPS to a target instead of assigning them to another ship. People are acting like the fighters are useless now. The only thing that will be changing is how the ship is used by the players.
With the long lock time of non-triage carriers combined with the now nerfed scan res of fighters there is no reason to actually use them in a combat fit any more over the alternatives which also has an impact on fighter use in PVE.
I hope for consistency sake they now apply this to other areas of eve where things are in some cases problematic i.e. sentry drones should be nerfed to 1km optimal, 1km falloff. |

Missions/Sites? Structure bashing? If you really believe the carrier is useless now. Don't use it. I'll be getting mine soon either way. Guess I'm glad I didn't already have one. Don't agree with Skynet, but don't care they took away the other options as well.
Good luck with your efforts to change it back. You're going to need it. o7
Not saying the carrier is useless now - but using fighters for anything much is largely pointless now outside of maybe some limited structure bashing (and I hear even thats changing) - if I'm relegated to sentries in PVE I might as well multibox RR domis or something.
Don't need luck (I'm gone once current subscriptions expire) - the off hand way this has been handled with combined with the obvious hacksaw job told me everything I needed to know days ago - was just waiting for the writing on the wall. |

Guess I'll say it. Can I have your stuff?
You'll have to pry it from the cold dead fingers of the 20 odd people who've already asked before you :S |

50 fighters is only dread dps with max damage fit aslong as they can't apply that effectively to smaller targets it isn't a problem. |

^^ 3300 dps from a regular carrier is 15 fighters.
With 50 fighters your talking around upto 10-11K dps with regular carrier fighters (you do need more than 3 normal carriers) and upto a bit over double that with blinged out supers, unlikely someone would use a max dps fit super on grid however so more like ~20K, dread dps ranges from around 7-8K with basic skills upto a hair shy of 20K with a pimp moros.
Aslong as fighters were tweaked so they can't just apply that to small targets with ease (even a combat fit on grid carrier has fairly good application of that damage as things stand) it wouldn't have been a problem - going back to some of my earliest posts on the subject. |

3300 x 5 != 33.3k. Sorry, crazy late night maths fail, so it's 'only' 15.15k DPS locking in mere seconds counting the fighters lock time. And you honestly think that's balanced DPS vs Subcaps at that speed? Can I have what you are smoking. That put's 4 Nyx's with no tank on field with plenty of oppertunity for drive bye DD's (at least 100b sitting on field). I feel like someone willing to put at least 4 supers on field as such should be able to get 16k DPS applying quite quickly to a target. Doesn't even have to be doomsdays. A couple of dreads will do just as good a job on completely untanked Nyxes and even subcapitals will work nicely.
Wouldn't take many arty nags against a skynet fit carrier heh (video was to demonstrate something else):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCVsQUlP81Q
1 hit from a basic T2 fit nag on that thanny and the thanny even has 15% shield bonus in effect.
(Not that I'd generally recommend arty nags). |
