Has this happened to anyone else? When drones take too long to reach its target, they just decide that "!@#$ ! it's too far! Let's go for something else!" , and change the target on it's own. This happened to me when 1) Sending Heavies to far target (30 km+, heck it's not even that far!). 2) When the original target use MWD that exceed drone's max speed.
This is very dangerous issue for a drone-boats pilot like me. So I want to hear what you guys think.

ALL THE F***ING TIME.
Drones have always been like this, some 'fixes' have been implemented, but drone use is like herding cats.
You can be 'glass half full' or 'glass half empty' about this.
1) its really really annoying. 2) its also quite funny.
You need to keep telling them, over and over, what to do.
Its a 'feature' of eve that you learn to live with, because it seems beyond fixing. The fact that they go off and attack things on their own will help you when you are using drones as a general defence for high sec mining. When you want to kill one thing at a time in a sensible tactical order, you want them not to use their limited AI.
Annoying but fun

I understand that drones will auto engage hostile ships if not told to "Return to Ship". But I never had problem of them changing their target on their own after being told to "Engage Target". When the target is not dead yet, dornes should not switch target. This just start to happened to me in the past couple weeks.

I get this all the time also, you have to tell them like every minute else they will go attack something random. They even change target after a while somtimes. It's like "hey, this BS is taking a long time to getdown, let's go kill that frigg instead" . Much annoying :(

I haven't noticed any problems, but that might be because I only use drones against NPCs that are intent on staying within range (frigs)

Every minute? More like 20 seconds. There's something wrong that Dev should look at.

Try to tell your Heavies to engage a ship 40 km away with other hostile ships attacking you. NPCs will produce this problem too.

Yah, I have this problem all the damned time. Is very irritating trying to corale the little buggers into actually attacking, sometimes.
Drones are evolving beyond our control. Sonn they'll be expecting a salary and paid-holiday, too

Watch out. One day you might realize there's a drone missing in your drone bay and see it in your Rogue Drone Harassment mission.

I used to have serious trouble controlling my drones a while ago, but the cat herding problem is mysteriously gone now. I have no problem activating my hammer IIs or even the web heavies on a fleeing target 50km away, so the devs must've found and fixed at least part of the ADHD bug...

Ah, so they shifted it to you. May your drones stray from you forever (so that mine doesn't).

If your drones take longer then X seconds to get to the target you assigned they will abort the action and find another target of their own.
When you see them stop moving towards it, give them the order to attack again.
To prevetn it in total, only make them attack that which is reasonably close.

Yup, they do it all the time for me...very annoying, especially if I don't notice. I've had times when I tell them to attack one BS that is say 40KM out, and when they are nearly there they turn around and go to attack the BS that is 50KM out in the OTHER direction. =(

I figured the problem, if you send them after really fast ships like interceptor types, and if it takes them to long to kill , they will wander off like they got bored.
This is the only time ive seen it happen.

Uh-oh...
Better be careful. Whip them too hard and they'll eventually turn into more "Rogue Drones" that are currently plaguing space.
What do you think happened to all those drones you accidently left behind and couldn't go back for.

They really need to introduce drone skills to finetune the AI. Like "Drone Formation Attack" to get them to attack only when they're in a group, or "Attack Close Proximity" to get them to attack the little boogers that are close to your ship, etc. etc. At the moment the drone AI is daft, and it needs looking at!

yeah, had a rogue Ogre break a nice spawn I was chaining.
so, I finished it up, punished it with some lights, rep it back up after it has 0 armor.
Guess what? 10-15 minutes later new spawn, better than the other. I go fight, take 2-3 down and suddenly.. lag... I get concerned about the thing taking over a minute to respond and then I see my modem disconnect... D:
I scurry to sign back on, and the two misbehaving ogres get popped fore I can save them. ---

Yup, it recently started happening to me when I started setting my drones on targets farther away. Starngeley it's only the hevies doing it, and I just reissue the attack command if I notice them wandering off.
Maybe it's some cunning plan by CCP to account for the new region infested with rogue drones. It's where all the naughty drones who don't follow orders end up

Just take them round the back of the shed and give them a good spanking.
Then give them all Milky Bars.
That way they'll be totally paranoid and you won't have to worry anymore about what they're up to. You'll know!
