Hi, I am a newer player who is close to hitting the 1 mill sp mark and I fly Cruisers. I am still in the starter corp and basically rat in 0.6-o.5, do lvl 2 missions and train skills. I am getting tot he point where I want to join a player corp and many sound good on the recruitment boards.
However, I was reading the starter corp chat tonight and a couple of guys who have been in the game for a very long time but are still in the the noob corp {for whatever reason,} were talking about player corps and said that 99% of them "suck" and the only ones worth joining are those who DON'T recruit.
How true is this?

Completely untrue imo. The fact that they are still in the beginner corp sjust means they havent bothered looking at more than 1 or 2. It all depends on your play style and what you want to do. Dont forget theres a recruitment channel in game as well. Also dont go headlong into joining a corp cus it sounds good always talk to someone from it first to find out whether you would fit or not. The problem with the guys still in the begginner corp is that they probably saw an offer and went headlong in expecting everything at once and then finding out the corp wasnt really for them. Yes there are some bad ones out there but most of them are good -----------------------

Thanks for the response Vin. Your views are what I suspected.
I do know about the recruitment channels and I would talk to the members or the guys in charge of a corp before even thinking of joining. I have been reading the recruitment boards to get a feel for what is out there too.

There is a slight undertone of truth to it though. A good corp is a well running corp that only recruits so that it can keep on growing and evolving (a corp that completely closes off is in serious risk of social stagnation which can become fatal very quickly in a cutthroath environment). A bad corp however needs to recruit faster than its members leave. As such it is certainly true that bad corps recruit much more aggressively than good ones. And of course there are the bogus recruitments of pirates who for whatever reason have become too restless to simply roam low sec and try to trick well meaning newbies into a trap by pretending to offer them a place in their corp. Ask a lot of questions when signing up and try to make sure the recruiter isn't lying to you.

/me holds himself from telling we're recruiting...
well... still... i'm glad i hit the jackpot straight away... and that the ppl i was with in the first corp, are also here in my 2nd... actually, we created the 2nd... still together after 1 year... quite proud of it :D...
uhm... all i'm trying to say that there are good corporations... build to have fun in the game... i could name a few... but that would look like recruitment, and i guess that's not allowed in this forum...

I do corp recruitment. I post a link to our main thread in every likely looking post on the recruitment boards. Every corp needs quality members and we try to at least make the poster consider us as an option. If we simply waited for people to come join us we would never grow. We are not an empire based corp. The only way for us to attract potential recruits who are knocking about in empire or other regions is to get out there and advertise. In this way I get the attention of people who we would never ever run into by simply playing the game.
Take your time to select the corp that right for you. Do interviews with as many as possible before deciding. But first you need to decide what it is you want out of EVE. Where do you want to be in a years time? Will the corp you join continue to cater to your changing needs as a player? Do they provide essentials such as free ships and ammo for pvp or at the very least a discount for replacing the losses you take in their name? Do the corp directors have a clear vision for future growth and development and do these views match your own? These are just some of the criteria people look for in a corp. BY having a comprehensive and open ended thread on EVE-O we are able to answer many of these questions without having to repeatedly answer the same questions over and over when people convo us ingame(usually at the worst possible moment)

I joined my corp within a week I think of joining Eve and I'm coming up to my 1 year mark with the same guys (I better get presents :) ). It's vital to make the step to a player corp as the number of people u have as friends reduces so you have a much better relationship with them never mind other benefits like cheap ships, free ammo and if in alliances access to 0.0 space.
Also, what have you got to lose btw? You don't like the guys you play with then leave the corp. Simple as. Just make sure the majority of players are in your timezone otherwise you may be a little lonely :o)
Oh and my corp is always happy to say hello to new guys. Drop me an evemail if you're interested :)

The number of friends reduces when you join a corp? I would hope that joining a corp would increase the number of in game friends i have! Did i misunderstand your words?

I think what he meant was compared to the 1,000,000 "friends" you have in the starter corp, it is better to have 20-50 people you really get to know in a player corp.
At least that is what I think he meant.
For those who are hinting that you want to recruit me but can't here, ill post a thread in the recruitment board so I don't make the mods here mad. You can provide info about your corp and ill tell a little about myself too.

Another thing that might make it seem slike only the "good" corps recruit is 0.0 corps.
Some 0.0 corps only operate in the wilds. They don't actively recruit new players simply because they don't ant to get their members killed before they are ready for 0.0 space.
My corp does this in some ways. We only actively recruit at certain times. Such as now, but then we help the new player train up to make sure he/she is ready for 0.0.
