alright heres where im at. i had just bought a new ship (merlin) and outfitted it pretty nicely 2 launchers 2 150 rails. with a tracking mode and a heat sink. so i had a lil invested and the rest was going into training my missile skills. then i got popped.
so what is the best way for someone flying the ibis with about 75000 isk to make it all come back to him. i figured maybe some trading but what can u guys tell me>?

Umm, traditional trading without any capital is almost impossible, forget about that.
First of all, make sure you always insure your ships, at least while you're new. Don't fly something you can't afford to lose.
To fix your current situation though, I have 3 suggestions. a) Buy a cheaper ship (Condor) and outfit it, then do some level 1 missions for cash. Decline Worlds Collide if you get it, you'll need a merlin/kestrel to do that mission. b) Buy a bantam and go mine veldspar :) c) Some t1 items sell cheaper than the minerals they can be refined into, even with basic refining (80-85% return). Find them, buy those items, refine and sell minerals, and then with the extra cash buy more and repeat until you have enough. You can do that in a shuttle and you don't need any substantial capital.

Oh, and check out the ships and modules forum for good merlin setups. It's a very good frigate but a tracking mod and a heat sink aren't the best mods you can fit on it :p

Any amount of capital is enough to start growing your isk. Moving goods from where they're sold cheap to where they're bought for more is the least skill intensive way to make money in EVE. You won't make huge sums of ISK, but 15% profit is still more than you started with, and can be reinvested almost immediately.
Mineral trading is a good way to start because of the small cargo size, and relative stability of the prices.

15% of 75000 ISK is only 10k. So you're looking at making 10k per trade. At the same time you can do level 1 missions for 100k+ rewards much faster than you can find and fulfil those 10k profit trade routes. You can do 3 lvl1 missions in 30 minutes, and buy a new Merlin.

Assuming that the only resources available are an Ibis & 75k isk, you can reliably run NPC courier missions. Most are 2-3 jumps, so figure 15 minutes there & back. Level 1 NPC courier missions in high sec space pay around 10k, with some trade goods for a bonus. Most combat missions are beyond an Ibis' capabilities.

Yep level 1 courier missions will pay better than trade if you only have 75k. Still IMO it's easier to fit a Condor with some launchers and a basic shield tank, I believe it costs less than 40k, and do kill missions :)

Run courier/kill missions and get a mining ship kitted as soon as you can afford it.
It's not pretty, efficient, or exciting, but it is a license to print money for yourself. That's a good thing when you're only looking at a few numbers in your wallet.
Alternately, join a corp. They'll probably be able to give you access to more ISK (in the amounts you'll need) and/or supplies to make it yourself.

Join a corp that provides free frigs.. Frigs are so cheap for a corp that most corps just hand them out.

That sure was nice of them. I'd like to recommend that if you are going to be a trader, work your skills up to an Industrial hauler and while doing so, read trading 101. The link is in the Market Essential threads stickey.
Good luck to you.
