I barely escaped with my skin (again) from a .4 system where I tried some low sec ratting. Yes, I checked the map and who was in the area. A member of the pirate corp who patrols that area almost got me. I saw him enter local and just needed to grab one can of loot and I would be off, but he was too fast. I was able to warp out at the last split second at zero shields, zero armor and 50% hull.
I struck up a conversation with him and inquired as to if they gave safe passage and use of the area for a "Usage Fee". He said it was 1 Mill a week.
I accepted and paid with the acknowledgement from him that he had put notice out to his corp. to not kill me and allow me use of "their" low sec areas for a week.
I know.....I know...."Trust No One!"
but I'm hoping they (he) will honour the agreement and allow me use of the area. For 1 Mill. I thought it was worth the gamble.
What are my chances???

tbh the odds are good him and his corp wont touch you.
problem is that all the other pirates NOT in his corp still will

there are tons and tons of empty low sec, you should have just taken the attack as a hint not to stay around there, and moved somewhere else imo

Well, assuming these guys don't want their repuatation ruined, they'll leave you alone. PODU has done mining passes and the like in the past, and it's worked out pretty well. Of course, that was mostly because of our system's location, which made it easy to secure. As was previously said, assuming these guys are good on their word, watch out for other pirate corps. Otherwise, you should be fine.

They might keep thier word.
YOu also might be able to neogate protection.
Them ignoreing you might be protection in of it's self as they will try to kill any other pirates the area anyways, since it is a dog eat dog world.

Well, I went back to do a little ratting and all was well for about 10 min. or so. I was watching local and saw "EeViLbOrNe ChIlDhAsPaWnD" enter local. She had a 0.5 sec rateing so I
wasn't to worried. I had just killed a high bounty rat and was moving in to scoop the cargo and I saw her enter the belt I was in. I was SO CLOSE to the can that I thought a few
seconds couldn't hurt.
Turns out it could. It hurt Badly. She had a Tech2 fitted Deimos and I was toast within seconds.
She didn't pod me.
No ransom request. Just blew me up.
She was not of the corp. that agreed not to harm me, but a stray pirate who entered the system that I ignored for too long. I had enough time to get to my safe spot and out of the system when I first saw her, but I was SO DAM CLOSE to that last can full of loot from that last fat rat. My greed did me in.
That is the way of EVE.
When I e-mailed the pirate who allowed me entry he said he was sorry to hear about the incident and EeViLbOrNe ChIlDhAsPaWnD and all in her corp were now on a "kill on sight" list.
It just highlighted the fact to me that I am grossly outgunned in lowsec space and I need to "skill-up".

to be honest when your in a ratting or mining set up you are hard pressed agaist those set up for PVP. best bet is to not take you chances and run always

Why should the Deimos pilot be KOS to this pirate corp? Did you pay him for PROTECTION or did you pay him for HIS CORP to leave you alone? Considering you paid 1 million ISK per week that sounds like it was just HIS CORP (and a bargain at that.) If you have a protection contract with a corp please do us pirates a favor and put it in your bio.
Also, most pirates are "kill on sight" with most other pirates anyway. There are some I leave alone, but for the most part everyone's fair game if they're not blue.

I normally issue the same thing to local miners or ratters who I notice hanging around the area. If I see them always in a safespot as soon as I enter the system, I convo them after a while and let them know that for a 0.5-1.5M I will not attack them for another 24h. That saves both him and me some gametime and he can still make a profit.
Not many are up to this as they cannot trust me, or it isn't worth it due to other pirates around and it only concern me and not my corp.

He's right if you do have a contract for protection or even for fly rights in someone elses controlled area of space you should put it in your bio, also 1m a week doesnt sound to low considering it is in empire space 0.0 its more like 100m a week if i remember correctly.

There is almoast alwayse atleast one person in the corp you paid that does not read email or notices and will probably destroy you without being wise to the fact you paid. Also do not hold you breath about the target corp compensating you for lost merchandise because one of their own screwed up.
Also you did not pay a protection fee so dont expect them to bother keeping other pirates out and in empire the chances of finding an unaffiliated pirate is HIGH.
I also would not put it past other people in the corp to kill you with an alt and pretend to be unaffiliated with the corp you paid.

I played a joke on a guy once that asked for "safe passage" in my preferred low sec hunting grounds.
Here is what happened...........
Well I log in and get an email from the pilot who's Omen I destroyed offering me cash in exchange for his safe passage in the systems.
Of course I didn't turn down his offer of 1 million for the week.
I told him to type a "safe phrase" into his bio. If you take the first letter of each word in the phrase it will spell a nice short sentence.
