Don't hold your breath 'till you've saved enough cash for that stand, it might take longer than you think...
If you scroll to the end of the page linked below, you'll see a $$ comparison in electricity costs of CRT vs LCD:
Viewsonic's power consumption comparison
Note, the cost of electricity in Canada is about 1/3 of what they list there. Those savings are for a four year period, for an 8 hours, 5 days a week use. I do hope you're not playing Eve that much.
If I where to translate that to average/normal home use, at Canadian electricity costs ($0.06/kWh), for my Dell 21" CRT, rated at 110W ( = 0.110kW/h) vs a LCD rated at 45W, say 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, for a year, with 2 weeks off: Total electricity bill for a year's use of: CRT: (0.110 * 0.06 * 3 * 5) * 50 = $4.95 LCD (0.045 * 0.06 * 3 * 5) * 50 = $2.03
Difference: $2.92 a year.
That'll buy you a nice stand there, champ.
Even at 8 hours x 5 days x 52 weeks, the difference is about $8 a year, so even for enterprises it doesn't really make a difference.
I'll get a LCD because it consumes less electricity for environmental reasons way before costs 'savings' reasons.
Let's just hope they don't hike electricity costs like that of Gas!

So, can anyone recommend the Dell 2007W over the Gateway FPB2185, or vice versa? (no, I'm not considering any other, only these two)
Gateway 21" FPD2185
Dell 2007W
I'm still leaning a bit more towards the Gateway but I'm still undecided.
The Gateway has a 1 year warranty vs. 3 years for the Dell. The Gateway is 1" bigger than the Dell. The Gateway has more inputs (that I'm not very likely to use tbh...) The Dell is rated at 16ms, but apparently responds like an 8ms (no ghosting, etc) For the looks, they both appeal about equally to me.
If I could buy both I would and have them duke it out... Hmm. There's an idea. Problem is, there isn't a store that holds them both :-\ (here in Montreal (Qc) anyway...)
Think I can buy the Dell at Costco, the Gateway at FutureShop and return which ever loses the contest (w. moneyback, not credit)?

I have a Dell 2007WFP and I love it, at one point I purchased a VX2025wm to check it out and I took it back the next day, the viewing angles were pitiful.

I have a Dell 2007WFP arriving some time tomorow, so I hope its a decent monitor.
AKAIK, the banding issues were only appearing on the early revisions A01, and if you do suffer from it Dell will either replace the monitor (your warranty is on site) or you can download a later version of the firmware.
OCuK thread, With Piccies Decent TFT review site.
In the end I went with the Dell, as it had that 4 year on-site warranty. they'll also replace the screen if it arrives with even a single dead pixel when you first get it. I sure as hell wouldn't buy one of their PC's, but they do make good TFT's.
...on the other hand using a banana might be a viable alternative.

The banding issues with the 2007WFP were resolved a while ago and it's quite fine now.

Thanx for the links Twilight Moon, the TFT review site is indeed very decent! I like the 'Panel search' on it, makes it easy to compare which monitors share the same panel...
Your last posts now make me favor the Dell over the Gateway, as the banding issue is now fixed, yet I'm still undecided (it's still 20" vs 21").
I'll get them both, try them out and return the one I don't want to keep... I'll start a new thread with my results when I'm done.
Tx to all for your participation!
