It started with an idea. We wanted to do something memorable in EVE. So we came up with the idea to gank a whole Incursionfleet at once. But just a gank wouldn't be enough it had to be something with THE style. So w choosed to gank in Faction Battleships just for the lulz. We picked mostly Machariels.
We made the plan. Even enemies came together to fly with us. On this point special thanks to all the guys from different Corps and Allies all over EVE. We filled the crowd. We bought the ships and the Smartbombs (producers are lame today, we had problems to get them all in one turn ^^) We transported them, fitted them. We filled the fleet. We gave out the ships. We warped to the spot and then the magic happens.
With special top secret super moves we finally could collect the enemyfleet at 0 to us. And then the Command came "Smartbombs hot"
I pressed F1 to F8 and started to smile, but not for long. We could not activate the Smartbombs just one or two. The serverlags were too hard.
So even if we get the ships back I allready says thx to CCP, we definetly want the ships back, there is nothing more important as these stupid ships... A month of work for nothing.

I'll be surprised if not only do you not get your ships back, but some of you don't get temp bans for "deliberately inducing server lag".
It's a pretty well known fact that smartbombing large-ish groups of ships in high sec will produce mind numbing levels of lag as the server tries to spawn concord for every ship you hit - and everyone else in your fleet is doing the same thing. You did it to yourself, and have no one but yourself to blame.

LOL i was flying a machariel with TVP that day. I was like 4th on the watch list and listening to TVP comms when the FC said "we are going to fleet with DIN and kill the MOM.
I was all like "crap, I've been on the wait list for 20 minutes waiting to get in and it's time to move already". I was getting tired of running missions on my other screen already (what i do while waiting, that or null anoms). I didn't even get an invite to the MOM fleet, i was getting ticked.
Then i heard it all go down on comms, and a few minutes later saw the killmails and battle report linked in TVP chat. Knowing my luck i would have died to you guys lol.
I guess everything happens for a reason
PS: like low sec (which starts to TiDi when we push 40 people through a gate), you have to know that high sec systems suck for things like this. |

Well the thing is, when you SB in LS. You still kill stuff, the tidi is just massive. We had great fights in which we had bombing squads and even in 0.0 are bombing fleets around. So I have no idea whats going on with that higsec.
It also looked like Concord was not affected by the tidi... which is bad i guess?!? |

No, we were just 45 smartbombing guys. That is not enough for a reinforcement notification. Even if we count the target fleet we were not even 100 Ships. And the TiDi were at 25 % and not 10 %. So This was not the problem. Even so CONCORD was not affected by the TiDi. |

actually at the 1:50 to 2:00 mark you can see that your smartbombs did activate. look at the second smartbomb. Yes it didn't show you all activated because the server or even just the client was lagging behind with giving you the feedback for successful module activation. For the second module it arrives at 1:50 to 2:00.
Furthermore you got jammed before it showed you any active smartbombs. This is also proof that in fact your smartbombs did activate and deal damage but just didnt show up as active. Aside from the very obvious hit notifications that you had on your screen.
So no CCP isn't to blame here (except for not showing you your active smartbombs). Your smartbombs activated, they did damage it just didn't show the modules as active but that's hardly a problem there. It's just that your plan failed because it sucked. |

Yeah you can see the damage the SB's were doing on the screens, looked like more than one or two in the beginning. The mods may not have shown that they were activated, but it looked like most of them were going off. What probably did you in was the fact that you both kept trying to activate the SBs. Turning them on and off.

It's a known fact that TiDi + Crimewatch (and every other process that runs in Highsec but not in other areas of space) don't always play well together.
Anyone remember the first Burn Jita? That first night, where TiDi did it's thing, but Concord wasn't setup to account for it, so you'd kill a flashy red, then die yourself cause it was no longer Red to Concord.. I doubt what happened was any designed mechanic, just a Glitch in the matrix that is hard to find due to the fact that very little "large scale" happens in highsec with TiDi and Crimewatch. |

It's not a "highsec"-mechanic ... ... but an "aggression"-mechanic.
It's there in null as well. Docking timers due to aggression, for example.
There's just way more for it to do in high, than anywhere else.

I remember a similar situation during the Revenant event, there was no immediate feedback on weapons activation. It got visible minutes later ... so you likely switched on and off the bombs before a command was executed. With Concord not being affected by TiDi ... a statement from CCP would be interesting, maybe this can be fixed with the brain in the box project ...

Producers? No. Here is where you see the end result of gank-dbag-proliferation.
Doing what you were doing is exactly what led to your difficulties rounding up your ships... this and miner ganking, freighter ganking, pretty much any indy ganking. Imagine flying in fully subbed T3s for 100m ISK. Nope, gotta gank the indys.

I actually hope you guys get your ships back on this one. The plan was good, but the technical limitations of the game screwed you on this one. Pipe bombing 100+ men fleet in nullsec is easily done with very limited lag. The same should apply in highsec, even regarding Concord spawning and crimewatch, etc. The fact that it does not is a failure on CCPs part. I'm usually one to laugh at the pathetic nature of gankers like code, but this takes a lot more effort than using cheap fit catalyst; i.e. read you did it in style with Machs. +1 in my book. Give them back their ships and let round 2 happen!

1 smartbomb does roughly 300 damage Whichever type of damage you pick you will only be able to inflict maximum 30%of it due to incursions battleships resistances of 70% or more, so you do 90 damage each bomb Considering 1 incursion battleship has 100k+ ehps , you will need 1,100 bomb cycles.
Considering you can only cycle once or twice depending on the system security before concord pops you, you will need about 63.5 battleships on a 0.5 concord primed system to be successful,.. If you don't count on Murphy's law. yeah, lets count the resistances twice, why don't we. |

I'm usually one to laugh at the pathetic nature of gankers like code, but this takes a lot more effort than using cheap fit catalyst; i.e. read you did it in style with Machs. +1 in my book. Give them back their ships and let round 2 happen!
Tell me more about how much server load spawning concord takes to confirm it's a failure on CCP's part that the node went to **** and not just the code running correctly but the server having too many systems on a single node to do all that. |

Some of you figured it allready out. You need a bunch of smartbombs for this action. Of course we scanned the ships in the first place and made out the lowest resistance. We fitted on that and took of the Fleet Boost. After this we had enough Smartbombs to kill them on an instant (50*8 Smartbombs = 400 Bombs * 300 = 120.000 Alpha). Even a Bufferfitted ship with Boost not have over 200.000 in Incursions as every ganker amoung us knows ^^
So with two cycles everything would be done. We got out 3 cycles in time that means a Damage 360 k Ehp IF the smartbomb worked. This is overpowered but we got just too many guys for this op. So why not a few ships more would not hurt.

omg... some people should either go back to school or play the game a bit.
We had (counting the few non machs in) 59 ships. Roughly 465 Smartbombs, some ships were Nightmare so a few less. Let's count with 58 ships but 8 Smartbombs per ship to make it easier. 8 Smartbombs have an Alpha of ~2400 damage.
58 Ships * 2400 Damage = 139200 Damage
We tested the signature thingy, you get the same damage with MWD and without, so sig radius obviously doesn't matter for a ship class.
If your Incursion fitted Ship gets 139200 incoming damage, please consider that the guy who took them into warp was their fleetbooster. Wait. What? Command links don't run if the ship is in warp. Breaking news.
Let me tell you about the testserver: In a 0.7 system you can easily get 3 cycles of smartbombs off before Concord kills you (cap boosters for the neut works fine). We were in a 0.6 for the actual thing. A warpscrambler instantly deactivates your microwarpdrive. All ships had a web + 1-2 tackles.
So there are some people here telling me their ship would survive 3*139.200=417.600 Damage without a boost in a regular Incursion fit. Remember, we talk about pure damage so we have to take the ships EHP which are usually around 100-120k.
After 4 years flying Incursions, especially HQ's, do you think I never saw a fit of those ships? That we do this for the fun of it and check if we really just did exactly 40% of shield damage on each ship after?
If CCP says the fleet fight notification should be used for 300+ people, and we expected 40 people to come, then I expect the server to handle at least our first cycle. Also concord was obviously not influenced by the server or loaded primarily. Check the videos, we had no chance, while concord was spawning fine. Nice how many people actually think that we can't expect the servers to work properly for a 60 vs 40 fight which happens all day in null. |

DPS does not matter. At some point those weapons are fired, and instantly inflict 140k damage. Then the cycle runs. And they inflict 140k damage again. Considering your ship is webbed and scrammed I wish you good luck to get out of range.
And raw damage and resists does not matter here. 140k is raw damage. 100k EHP is the amount of raw damage needed to kill the ship instantly, so we are already comparing the same things if we have raw DMG and EHP. |

DPS only matters if your target survives the initial Alpha. Looking at the theoretical numbers - I concur with the OP, the targets should have died.
The problem so much of the time, as in this case, is that theory does not always translate well into practice.

We warped to the spot and then the magic happened. With special top secret super moves we finally could collect the enemyfleet at 0 to us. And then the Command came "Smartbombs hot" I pressed F1 to F8 and started to smile, but not for long. We could not activate the Smartbombs just one or two. The serverlags were too hard. Does not apply if the module were to actually work because the whole 140k would be dealth within the same tick. You can't OH withing a single tick nor can you rep someone (you could get lucky and get a rep cycle that landed on the same tick to register between some of the smartbombs but that's quite a bad probability). Additionally the 300people for a "Fleet Fight Notification" is based around Nullsec, where there is virtually no overhead. Highsec is a whole different best, it has loads of overhead on the server.. Crimewatch being the biggest, but also faction police, customs, the actual overhead for the Incursions themselves, etc. Ontop of that, an Incursion takes place on a single node, so when counting pilots, you need to count EVERYONE in the Incursion Constellation, which would be WELL in excess of 300. Sisi, outside of mass testing, has fewer people on the whole server than an a single incursion has most of the time.. so the tests there were meaningless for showing load. |

There was also something like 58 smartbomb dealing damage to close to 100 ships each since it damaged ship in the bombing fleet too.
58 bombs on the first module activation per attacking ships * (own fleet + enemy fleet) = total damage event
58 * (58 + 40) = 5684 damage event. All those + the CONCORD spawn + the criminal flag call had to happen withing a single tick + potentially 5684 more damage event because you were able to cycle 2 SB instead of only 1.
The idea itse;f was a fun thing to try but the math side of it escalated quickly... |

You can get the OH off if you are lucky and really on the ball and a good chunk of your EHP on some ship can't be over-heated. A vindi for example get quite some EHP out of the hull with a DCU II. Beside that, the regen will amount to nearly nothing. |

It doesn't look like anyone has mentioned it but smart bombs AS FAR AS I KNOW do not do focused damage. If a ship is next to you and you fire the smart bomb you will not do the advertised damage as the damaged is spread over the advertised area. So you only do a percentage of the damage. That or the damage is divided by the number of ships in range.
I could be wrong though. |

Are smart bombs distributing damage based on ship size in some manner as done with missiles?

Noep.
They have no explosion radius or signature resolution attributes.

It's a pretty well known fact that smartbombing large-ish groups of ships in high sec will produce mind numbing levels of lag as the server tries to spawn concord for every ship you hit - and everyone else in your fleet is doing the same thing. You did it to yourself, and have no one but yourself to blame.
That said, good on you for creating content. So it's their fault CCP's got crap servers? :)

Fun fact for you: Smartbombs do damage while your ship is still leaving warp. To the other comments: Do you think after 2 hours waiting and finally getting ready for a few min, people went afk or tried to activate the first volley via mouse? (YES, we clicked after noticing nothing worked anymore)
Back to the damage while warping thing: First, Incursion logis have WAY, WAAAAY, WAAAAAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAAAAY less EHP than 140k. Second, they were still leaving warp while the first volley should have hit. Try to lock something while your ship is working. That should solve your question here. Overheat? Maybe. Still they had no fleetboost, so 1 overheated invul doesn't bring your ship even close to 200k+. You get hit by the first cycle while in warp, absolutlely helpless, the second one hits 6-8 seconds later while you'r scrammed and webbed. Logis are gone on the first one. If the servers would work there is no chance of escape. |

Also I want to add that smartbombs have a hidde bonus to range depending on the shipsize. The bigger your "long axis" the further you do damage.
Just for completeness.

Except lately I've seen where CCP were reimbursing pods/shuttles which died to smartbombers while landing on gate (still technically in warp) in highsec, it's not to say they wouldn't have reimbursed if you folks were successful then. Nice idea though, shame the server couldn't handle this bit of gameplay |

I can't say for sure but the argument was probably along the line of I'm not supposed to be able to take damage while in warp and I should be in a session change when I exit warp again preventing me from taking damage. That's the only way I can think filing for reimbursement on that could have a chance to work... |

Indeed if the server were able to handle all that happened within those few seconds, the logi and battleship should of died. The only issue is, did CCP ever say stuff like that was supposed to be supported correctly by the server? The number generated were pretty damn high on a non-reinforced node which might also have been dealing with action in other systems. |

Yeah and the real question is, are you supposed to be vulnerable to smartbomb or not while in warp. If you are not supposed to be immune, the reimbursement was an error. If you are supposed to be immune, then it should be reported as a bug. |

Pipebombing creates a magnitude more lag than targeting something and shooting it. That's just the reality of it. And in highsec, where the servers are not expected to take that kind of load, it's going to hit far harder than nullsec. |

I'm trying to imagine how CCP could introduce bump mechanics and the things connected to it in to an NPE without making EVE and themselves look like complete meatheads. They could do it from either side of the coin, it still looks like a circus sideshow.

Holy f** how dense can people be...
FAQ for those with flubber instead of brain:
"ganker tears #LOLOLOL"
- dudes and dudines, we wasted 40b for fun, and yes, we were kinda disappointed about the poor server performance, didn't really see any flames here.
"he says 40b #LOLOLOLOL there were only 26 machs and that was 40b? What an idiot"
- First, many people were on alts that had no API on any KB, so there are not all 55+ shipkills uploaded. Second, have this: Machs ~25b, Fits (we bought a lot of stuff to refit for different occasions and skills) ~5b, PLEX sponsored to some people to take part who had inactive accounts: ~9b. And if you add those numbers, and a bit of isk for needed parts like a pos, you might maaaybe get to 40b. Oh btw... there is still fit leftovers, haven't sold them yet.
"It took you 1 month for this? How ******** are you?"
- Easy to answer. Try to gather 50+ people from this many alliances and places AND THEN find a date where EVERYBODY has time for this event. THIS took the month.
"lol u fgt Smartbombs destroy ur lootz ur so dumb"
- Go to the testserver. Fit a smartbomb. Land in range to any wreck. Activate. Be amazed.
And Basil my sweetheart... Please check all of the points above. "Because I can" seems a hard to grasp concept for some people here. |
