Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 26/10/2006 18:24:06 Can we please get an option to turn off the seamless stuff and just have our plain old map back? Those transitions are driving me nuts, no purpose except eye-candy, and every one wastes almost 10 secs of my precious time... If I open or close the map, I want to open or close the map asap, not some fancy gfx stunt. Thanks. (If turning the transitions off is already possible, please point me there and chastise me...) --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Link removed due to bad language on remote site. -wystler

I have 3 new square buttons above the overview labeled "system map", "starmap", and "inflight" (or something close). Clicking "starmap" gives me the old star map without transitions (at least it did last night). ... |

Ya it's annoying along with the map having to be flatten each time you open it and no zoom.

One of those things that the devs really like, and have worked extremely hard to implement, but turn out to be annoying to most of the player base? Like... having to rightclick everything instead of being able to use the keyboard?

The new map is awesome! I have barely started using it on test and already find it loads way quicker than the old one.
The information on each station available by rolling over the icons is excellent and the ingame contracts/market route finding via the new map is again very easy to use.
My BMs even show on the thing.
Keep the map, its easily one of the best features of kali.
I'm not bored, I'm merely in the Queue. |

Yeah the new map itself is great. Just those transitions zooming away from ship, out of system, into the galaxy, and only then flattening the map (and the other way round when returning)... All that is taking quite a bit of time here. Maybe that is just my slightly old comp, but not everyone runs EVE on a dualcore with the latest GFX card...

could u be using dialup - that has always created map lag over 256k ADSL and higher speeds. Could be the source of youre issue.

No, I am on DSL 2000. And it is not the map lagging, the map itself is great. Just the time between clicking the map button and actually getting there is annoying due to that beautiful albeit pointless graphical transition. --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! I am a scan prober. I played with the new map for quite some time a couple days ago, and while I thought the transitions were neat-o, the zomgthatssocool effect wore off pretty fast. I still like it better than the old map though.
My main beef is the lack of an absolute direction. With the old minimap, I knew what north, south, up, down, etc were at all times. This allowed me to do a lot of the 3d spacialization in my head. Now, while transitioning the camera does quite a few rotations about various axes, which totally messes my poor brain up when trying to remember where my prey is in relation to me. Landmarks aren't gonna cut it.
I think the easiest solution is not to have an option for either system, but simply to add a "flatten map" button for the system level. Or stick the system map back on the scanner.
Also, the green scanning cone was extremely helpful. If that could be put into the system level map (either as a 3d cone, or only have it on the flattened version as a triangle as it is now), I would be very very happy.

they are nice to start with, but quickly get annoying
I managed to somehow zoom out to the galaxy view during a 1v1, which was incredibly annoying

I think a good solution would be a hotkey with the ability to lock the seamless feature, so things like the above mentioned don't happen. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

Seriously, the seamless map blows big style. The name of the region is not transparent and gets in the way and I end up spending 5 minutes just trying to turn it off.
It is eye candy and it is not needed.
Please give us a plain old map option. Please. Pretty Please. Pretty please with bells on.
Fly safe guys.

The new map is, as has already been suggested above and elsewhere, pure eye candy. Pretty but worthless. That's it.
Oh and of course it works better (at the moment) but just wait till 30k people are logged in on Tranquility.

One point that seperates amateur game developers from skilled ones is to add OPTIONS for graphics.
Eve is lacking around 70% of a normal game's graphic options. This is one of them.
Others are f.ex. to turn off those damn fps killer clouds, model and texture quality, and so on.
Same goes for statments like "change ammo all is for kali" almost a year ago. This is all stuff that has to be there before the beta phase of a game ends.

CCP's developers probably had to work several days to code and create the new map only for your own pleasure and now you come and say "oh we dont like it blah blah we want it to be simple blah blah we like simple stuff we like functionality blah blah new map is only eye candy blah blah". If i was a CCP dev that worked on the new map i would at least be ****ed off after reading this thread.
Why dont you all whiners dont take some time to familirize yourself with the new map. Its cool and looks awesome especially when the galaxy stars are displayed in space. Yes when i first entered test realm and checked it, it was hard to use for me too but the longer i was playing with it the longer i was learning it. And i also liked the new tooltips of systems although sometimes they get annoying, but we will get used to it.
CCP wasnt forced to make this new map, they made it for YOU. When people put some work to create something for you thats better than something you used to have, show some respect and try to learn it, or at least use it a while before you come in forums and whine.

I can see both sides... but one point how many "asks" have CCP had to make the map like it is now? Sure people want to do more with the map, but the seamless stuff???
Perhaps more people have been asking to fix "local", or "instas" :)

Yea of course like it is easy to fix insatnts. You how many poeple will come here and WHINE if ccp removed insatnts? But of course why remove just create 0 warp option, and completely destroy game mechanics liek hauling, like traveling etc. Yes they can just buy the insatnts but its not the same. You have to pay them or at least go get them. Ok maybe there are some things that need to be fixed and im sure CCP is working on it. I sometimes want to whine myself. Besides people didnt ask for rigs, or boosters or tech2 or new battleships or etc etc CCP made them i bet all love them. So lets help them a little, new map is still in beta let them do their job.

I like the new functionality of the system map, its really well done, but I don't need and certainly don't recall asking for time-wasting graphical 'swoops' from one view to the other. Its annoying and pointless.
All we are asking for is an option to disable them, nothing more. Otherwise the new map functionality is really good.
