...is a little bit annoying. I'm not switching between characters that often, so I hardly care about the order of my character in the character selection screen, but since I imagine it is super easy to change and it would add some quality of life I pulled myself together and went to the forum.
Why do we have a dynamic sorting? For me it is super easy to remember the location of my 3 characters in the selection screen, so I log in and my mouse hovers over the location already where my main character tile will be. But when I switch to another character and I want to switch back to my main, I have to "look" for it. I would love to be always able to "blindly" click on a tile, regardless what character I used the last time. Even if CCP decides to add 6 additional character slots to each account, I would still prefer a static order. Just sort them by age or maybe skill points, that would do it.
Yes, it is nearly not worth it to discuss, but maybe a DEV can ninja change that behavior in 10 min? ;)
What do you think? Is the dynamic sorting useless or helpful? |

Let us pick the slot and make it stay there no matter which character was last used.
I know it's my own fault, but there's been many times when I log on, select one of my seldom used market alts, then the next time I log on, expecting to click my main character, I forget the alt is in "Slot 1" and click it... so then I have to quit and log back in.

It's too hard to remember that the character on the left is the last one you used with that account, and I can't be bothered to actually look at my screen before clicking.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Second time I'm seeing a silly post of yours.
What if... you use multiple characters on the same account (gasp), and it's just easier to remember which slot they use rather than having to focus on it to make sure you don't load the wrong one by accident.
So, having an option to disable the sorting would be welcomed, not by everyone but by some of us. Enough reason, given the relative ease of implementing it, to ask for it.

What about a confirmation box if the character being selected is logged off in space?

Just add a "disable character sorting" option, so it stays as it currently is. Easy solution to a problem some of us may have. "Cap alt is in the middle" is something one can get used to just fine.

I understood the change of character position, when the last active one had a larger Avatar on the login screen. But now that is no longer the case, it's kinda pointless and I can see the reason for the OP request.

I do use multiple characters on the same account, additionally I use four accounts with multiple characters on each account. While there is some overlap in character roles, most of my characters were created for certain tasks, so I find myself switching between characters rather often. I've found that taking half a second to make sure you're logging in the correct character saves a lot of hassle. It doesn't matter if the characters get moved around on the login screen if you simply pay attention to what you're doing, which is apparently too difficult for some.
