Sirus Tiberus	Posted - 2006.10.30 06:28:00 - [1] Just wanting a basic idea of what the ranking of popularity for the 4 races are? caldari appear to be the most popular but im curious about the other race's comparisons. Also, what is the most popular ship class/role of charcater?
Marine HK4861 Caldari Seoltachd	Posted - 2006.10.30 07:50:00 - [2] According to a survey held a while ago, Caldari were the most popular (~40%), followed by the Gallente, Minmatar and Amarr, in that order. I know just before the RMR release, Minmatar was bottom of the list, with Amarr just above it. Achura is probably the most favourite alt as they did have the best attributes for everything except leadership/social skills. With Kali's release and the new gang rules making leadership more important, hopefully this should fix some of the imbalance.

They're just chosen the most because of the race description (militaristic and all that). Also note that you can fly all racial ships as long as you train for it so you don't have to choose a race in the beginning and stick to it's ships. Generally you could say that Caldari ships do well in PVE while they're not so good for PVP. Amarr and Minmatar are the other way round, where Amarr uses lasers and Minmatar uses projectiles and missiles, Minnie is more geared towards speed and agility while Amarr is more based around duking it out. Gallente is somewhere in the middle and personally I think gallente ships (on average) are the best ships out there. Although with the upcoming changes it's kinda uncertain how the pendulum will swing and which race/strategy will come out on top. Caldari are the best for shield tanking, the best for damage (everyone in this game seems to love missiles), and Caldari have EW bonuses. The single Cruiser I see the most is the Caracal...a missile boat. (and an ugly little ship at that....it looks like someone tried to starve a Klingon ship to death) I really wish it werent like that, because I personally did choose them entirely for RP reasons. CCP Needs to do something to make Amarr and Minmatar more attractive IMO (in a game-play way, not just a RP way). The game would be a lot more interesting if the races were spread out among the player base.

But I've spoken to a few newer players that chose Caldari for the faction descriptions listed, they seemed "cooler" ----- Lighten up a little bit. It's only the end of the world.

Cipher7	Posted - 2006.11.04 23:32:00 - [10] Caldari seem to have it all. Cool theme, cool stations, the best EW ships etc. Can you honestly compare the Scorp with the Typhoon in usefulness? Or worse the Armageddon? The only race that can compete with the Caldari in ships is Gallente, but then you have to deal with annoying drones, leaving them at a belt when you go ratting, or have an expensive t2 drone blow up, or whatever. Situationally Minmatar ships are great. Fastest lock time, lowest signature, fastest speed, nice alpha strike. But frail tank, eats up ammo, very high SP requirements to fly well, projectile weapons have the lowest DPS over long engagements. Okay Caldari let's see... Not 1 lame duck in the entire fleet. Every single Caldari ship is primo first class. Shield tanking is safer than armor tanking. Best EW boats (and EW is overpowered.) Missiles can do all 4 damage types. Missiles have great reliable DPS. Missiles use no cap. The Osprey is the best mining cruiser in the game. With top skills it can go toe to toe with a medium barge and carries 2 more mining drones than the Scythe. The Kestrel is just about the hardest hitting frigate in the game. No need to account for transversal just hit F1 - F8 and fly around in a circle. Caracal the best suicide gank ship in the game. Achura stats are uber. I could go on and on, but basically Caldari are the Night Elf Hunters of Eve, that race is cheese to the point of being irritating.

I wish it wasnt true. But the fugliest cruisers in the game are all Caldari. The Blackbird and Ferox are decent, but the Moa and Osprey are positively hideous. The Caracal looks like the mummified corpse of a real ship. It is like CCP made them ugly on purpose. I havnt seen the new tier 3 cruiser...maybe it will look decent. The concept images of the tier 3 Caldari Battleship look absolutely awesome, and the Raven and Scorpion look decent. So yeah, there is a price to pay after all, heh heh. I was tempted to go Gallente, because I like their backstory too (they are the only true democracy in the game). But I just couldnt bring myself to play one of those fruity frenchmen.

My point is any character can fly any vessel with training, It all boils down to choice.
