As you may or may not know, logging off is not an exploit. Anyway there are right ways and wrong ways to do it to save your ship from whatever situation you want to save it from.
Like, relogging straight back in with an alt allegedly removes your main's ship from space more quickly.
Or logging back in with your main and logging back out again forces your ship another million km away from the danger zone...
So, without the usual flames about camping/logging, is there a guide anyway to the subtle nuances of logging out most effectively?

I'm assuming the OP is baiting you guys (and you did fall for it), by drawing attention to how lame this tactic is in a clever and sarcastic posting.
If it's not, however, I don't think WoW's the game for you. How about Disney's Toontown Online?
Are you 'toon enough?

The Guide to LOGGING OFF.
1. Press CTRL+Q.
2. Log in an alt to remove your character from space immediatly.
3. Throw your E-PEEN on the forums and laugh - It is all been confirmed by the DEV's to be a legal tactic.

All lies. The most important thing to do is to aggro one of the people you are trying to avoid briefly before you log out. Your ship will disappear instantly then. Honest.

Quickest way to log off is to keep a jug of water beside your PC. When you need to log off in a hurry simply throw the jug of water in the nearest open vent to your PC's PSU. The eve server automatically detects this as a crash and instantly logs you off safely without all the hassle of logging in an alt.
If it doesn't work you can then send a petition in to CCP and they will refund your ship. |

I appreciate being described as clever, sarcastic and satirical.
However. No, I am being quite serious.
CTRL-Q is the fastest way to log out, both on your PC and with respect to Eve knowing you wish to leave the game at this time.
Relogging in an alt is the best way to remove your main's ship from Eve. Relogging in your main and CTRL-Q again straight away pushes your ship another million KM away. Handy for when you wish to log in again for real, you don't land on the same point you wished to log away from in the first place.
If you are PvP aggressed, you do not log instantly, it takes 2 minutes to leave the area. However I do not know if being shot at is enough, or do you have to shoot back to be logoff disabled?
If you Jump Gate into a camp, before you move and uncloack, CTRL-Q removes you from Eve without any delays at all.
If you warp into a camp, I am not familiar with the rules at all at this point, but I suspect CTRL-Q before anybody locks you would help a lot. These are the points I seek answers to.
I seek to gain as much knowledge as possible on this. One day I hope to find one of these gate camps to try it out on.... I hear so much about them, they sound like they are uber fun. Can't wait.

We're all alts. That's the problem with Eve. Anonymity, people behave like scum because there are no consequences to pay, nothing a trip to Ebay for a new Mega doesn't fix. If there were real consequences to being a muppet, people would think twice. Save your agent some bother, my home is Aporulie. (Not sure I remember clearly but I was born in Jita I think.) I'm currently in Dodixie. And I'm in a Badger. That's more than your agent would have told you. See how nice I am.

Ok, that's nice of you, didn't expect it, even didn't expect a reply. No, I'm not gonna go hunting you, because I'm occupied enough in EVE.
Anyway I totally disagree with you. EVE isn't a nice place, where everyone can travel anywhere unprepaired solo. Characters who are scum or behave like it are also part of the game. You believe that everyone in EVE should be nice everywhere, sorry, EVE isn't always nice !
IMO EVE is a vision of a world that isn't nice at all, especially less nice than reallife. It's a world, where it's better to make friends and team-up sometimes to survive (like in low sec and 0.0). The harsh universe. Make it or fail, live or die, it's up to you. Making friends and working together is one possible step for survival.
I have to invest effort and work continously with others to have it nice for some time. Then there are groups, who do the same, but work against us. They give nothing about my ship or my pod, they just follow their interests as a group and if it means blowing me to hell, then they do it, no matter where, when and how. It's how it's supposed to be. You don't get a nice life in EVE for free ( at least in 0.0 and low sec), you have to do something for it.
Finally EVE is a pvp game, in high-sec it starts with the market, in low sec and 0.0 it means dealing with other players, who want to kill you for whatever reason ... and the last thing they will do is asking you, if you wish to be shot or not !
If someone doesn't want to deal with it, he should stay away from these areas or not play EVE.

I'm basically agreeing with most of what you said.
And hunting me wouldn't get you much more than a killmail and maybe a janitor.
Similarly to logoff/logon. I've not seen this posted as EVIL yet, but I do my low-sec mission runs within 10 minutes of DT ending. If logon/logoff is considered evil, then so should doing mission runs before the lamers get the last tent pegs in. But I won't stop doing that either. After 10 minutes of server up, you usually end up doing more crazy warps all over the place to throw off those nutter who blink red all the time than you do getting the missions run, so give up at that bit. I suppose if the gate campers KNEW we (can't just be me who does this) were doing it, would they be whining on the forums that people are going through the gates before they get there, and that they should be allowed to log IN before they have? It just seems a bit crazy to me.

99% is what we like to call a "hyperbole", used here as a fancy way of saying "most". I don't know if it really is 99%, or 90%, or 100%, as I have done no such survey. It is, however, a fact that the vast majority of the EVE universe dislike log-off tactics.
On a related topic (at the OP), I'd like to know what he despises so about Gate Camps? Why do you consider them "lamers"? Do you get frustrated that you may not go anywhere in the EVE universe for free, on your own, with no hassle? 0.0 is the playground of politics- peopl form large corps and alliances so as to claim - against other such groups - territory to rat and mine. Most fiight daily with their neighbors to try and keep a bit of space to call their own. It is not your right to get in there and use it yourself- its something you must achieve, eitehr by fighting for it or by cunning ninja-like tactics.
Piracy Gate Camps also have their part in EVE. EVE is a PvP game, and they want to PvP you- you can PvP them back. You don't get people on Quake saying "Aw, you n00b, why did you kill me? I didn't mean any harm to you! I just wanted to explore and collect power-ups!". In fact, half of the things that you (presumably, an Empire dweller non PvP type) are complaining about are more applicable to Pirates than you; the times I've tried to bust a Gate Camp, I'm most often foiled by the pirates logging off, using WCS, and so forth. I find this ceaselessly ironic........... -----------------------------------------------

Hate to play devils advocate here for a min but....
Cause gate camps arnt a lame form of pvp right? You sit there all day with 20 buddies and shoot at anything that moves and watch it insta pop. There is no skill involved. And there is no chance of the other person surviving. It is no different than spawn camping in an FPS, or griefing a lower level in a different MMO. It's lame!
And no I don't do the log off thing. But I still think gate camps and blobs are stupid.

Conflict has always centered around control of critical area's. With current game mechanics gate camps are the most logical and effective way to defend an area of space from intruders.
Like it or not, in-game or out, people are going to use the tactics that work.
