I have lived in Kath for a little while now, and I was in my room Saturday morning when the 7.8 hit. 40 hours later, I'm still alive because of the metal desk that stood more or less intact against the collapsed structure, wood and cement, of the house I was in. My situation really doesn't compare to a lot of people who are stuck here and in much worse condition.. I was only in danger of suffocation and some dehydration. After I was pulled out, I couldn't locate most of the people I know in the city, it's very hard to understand what's happened to them. I'm lucky.. my brother located me and I am travelling to get medical help in India.. the situation in Kath is very grave with many people injured and very little space to keep them warm or safe. From what I understand many rescue groups are coming in to help.
The earthquake was near equal in magnitude to the 7.9 that hit San Francisco in 1906, which is regarded as one of the worst natural disasters in the US. Both earthquakes have claimed upwards of 3,000 lives. The Nepali quake was at a very shallow depth (10-11 miles I believe), so the devastation is very widespread. There are people in India as far down as Kolkata who have fissures down their walls and foundations from the aftershocks alone.
I think we spend money on a lot of things, and if you can give even a little bit to Red Cross, or to CCP if they open up PLEX For Good, then I think it would be a good thing.
This doesn't lessen the pain and suffering of humans and non humans anywhere else in the world.. and there is a lot of suffering the world over.. but something really horrible happened in Nepal Saturday morning, and every little bit of help would go a long way.

Thanks for the update Mr. Falcon. <3
I hope you know how much we love you, the devs.
PLEX for Good is letting us use your server time and your electricity to earn game ISKies that you convert to RL money to help people in real, actual trouble. When you explain it to somebody who doesn't know anything about MMOs or spreadsheets in space, they have this moment when they look back at you like their mind is blown.
Big Lynx, I hope your friend makes it safely off Everest. I never made it onto the mountain, I lack the experience and confidence for it.. so big respect for anyone who has the courage to climb that rock.

From https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/PLEX_for_GOOD
Quote:To cut the story short, you buy a PLEX via account management or the ingame market, or use one that you have been holding, and then you make a contract and assign it to the player "CCP PLEX For GOOD". This player is controlled by CCP, and all PLEX assigned to this player through contracts will be converted into real money and sent to charity.
I would just wait for Mr. Falcon's Dev Blog for instructions..

Thanks for your update Mr. Falcon. Looking forward to this being available as an option, thanks to CCP.
We are all internet savvy here in EVE and find the latest and greatest news, so I won't get overly solicitous.
The death count in Nepal is estimated in the 5,000 range. The long term estimate may be double that since they are still pulling people out as well the difficulty in reaching some affected areas (the map shows a distribution of destruction from a study reported on by NYTimes).
Some of the concerns are that some of the hardest hit areas are inaccessible by ground vehicles, due to the destruction of the landscape as well as lack of established roads into these communities. There is a lack of consumable water, so people are making do with other sources like swimming pools and such. With the monsoon season oncoming, this could quickly turn into a disease control situation. Today we heard food trucks for relief are being raided.. the earthquake has been destabilizing and many are taking advantage.
Anyway, maybe this was just my transparent attempt at bringing this topic up to the topic. <3

About 800km away now, but we felt the ground shake hard enough to evacuate our workplace for about 20 minutes. A checkup of the structure we have found a couple of new cracks that are visible from the outside. It is really sort of a testament to how powerful a 7.3 magnitude is that it would be felt this far away and cause everyone to be out on the street. Tremors were felt down in Chennai which is in South India.
40 have died in Nepal from what I see in the news here. There are even double-digit casualties in India in a state called Bihar. Some people unfortunately under a collapsed roof.
And it always hits me emotionally to see people worrying about each other in this community. <3
Edit: Mr. Falcon and CCP have extended PLEX FOR GOOD to March 24.

TechDealer wrote:Happen to see this so If i buy Plex then i donate to the GM to get isk at the same time help nepal is this how it works?? I was reading the Plex for Good page but I am confused... Anyway i been to nepal twice and feel is really sad to see how it is like now. So is good to help out.
You would donate the PLEX not to a GM but to the character named CCP PLEX For GOOD. Ensure this character is in C C P Corporation. You could also send spare ISK to Chribba or others offering the service to convert the ISK into donation PLEX.
The best thing to do is check the dev blog article. It is linked in my sig.
