I'm using a shield boost amplifier. Will I get a greater benefit from using a XL shield booster as opposed to using a large shield booster when both are used in conjunction with the amplifier? Any math wizards out there able to clarify this?
Large shield booster cycles every 4 seconds while the XL cycles every 5 seconds, but the 30% bonus from the amp is greater on the XL SB.

If you look at shield/sec the boost amp adds 30% to all boosters regardless of size.

Yes it does.
You wont get any more "benefit" in terms of shields repaired per second. The shield boost amp will obviously add more to each cycle of the XL booster, but as it cycles less frequently than the large, the ratio of shieldpoints repaired per second stays constant between the 2 boosters.
Heres the math breakdown (not accounting for any skills, ship bonuses, etc).
Large Shield booster I: 160 shield every 4 seconds without amp (40 shield/second). With shield boost amp I, its 208 every 4 seconds (52 shield/second).
XLarge shield booster I: 400 shield every 5 seconds without amp (80 shield/second). With the amp, its 520 every 5 seconds (104 shield/second).
Its still a 30% increase in effectiveness. Obviously 30% of 80 shield/second is more than 30% of 40 shield/second.
Or were you asking if its better to run Large booster + shield amp compared to XL booster without amp ? If that was the question, well you still get slighly more shields per second with the XL even without a boost amp, but you also suck a LOT more cap per second.

I use a boost amp on my raven with my large booster II, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. For one, XL boosters take up so much fitting requirements its hard to fit anything else, easier to maintain, and with the boost amp and hardeners its all you would ever need.
