Edited by: Viginti on 16/11/2006 09:02:10 Joined Dark-Rising after having an "encounter" with a couple of their members. I was impressed enough to leave the corp I had just joined and I have absolutely no regrets.
This is a great corp full of nice, active and helpful people coupled with excellent leadership. Apply today, you won't be disappointed

Originally by: Sashina Edited by: Sashina on 14/04/2007 19:39:10 I am curious why Dark-Rising has a 100% tax rate. It seems like this would make it difficult to earn money to replace ships if needed. I guess you expect new members to have a pretty large wallet in order to pay for any losses? I know the manual says it will increase to 80% as needed. So you must have something major to pay for with the 100% rate?
I also replied to your comment in the "13mil sp player looking for a corp" thread...
The 100% tax rate is not permanent and is done for one of two reasons.
It is done during mandatory corp PvP ops so that members are not out ratting or mining when team participation is needed. For us to control space and provide members with ships and mods requires them to participate in defense and attack operations to not only defend our assets and acquire new ones but to also protect and expand their personal profitability. I've never come across a potential recruit who has any problem with this policy. Most really like this policy as it almost guarantees that their efforts will make them richer in the long run.
The second reason is we have a couple of days during the week where the corp has mining/ratting ops to help fund our activities (not to make Mitch's wallet bigger)and plans as a corp and alliance.
Since we produce ships for our members to buy at or, in most cases, below empire prices the insurance on a ship more than pays for the loss. Since we also produce ammo and mods for our members for free there are sometimes cases where members actually profit slightly from a loss. Of course this isn't true if they fit a ship with entirely tech II mods but they understand that and accept the risk like anyone else.
Our members work for the corp as well as themselves, nobody is starving I assure you
Good question though, I appreciate an honest and thoughtful inquiry

Humpty Bumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Bumpty had a great fall, sadly Humpty Bumpty let his life insurance lapse and left behind a wife and two kids. The bills started piling up and soon the bank foreclosed on Mrs. Bumpty's house. At the end of her rope, Mrs. Bumpty has to resort to turning tricks to make ends meet.
Thankfully, dark-rising is just fine but we're always on the lookout for friendly, experienced pilots. Stop by our in game channel and chat us up

Edited by: Viginti on 10/05/2007 01:07:37 My last post as an official recruiter and member of DARK...
Before the speculation starts, my leaving has nothing to do with the corp, it's policies and procedures, or it's members and directors. It has everything to do with real life and my inability to be a productive member.
Every positive thing that has been said about DARK and it's members is true. They are the most accommodating people I've ever met and had the pleasure of flying with. Their production and logistics capabilities are top notch and led by some of the smartest, most experienced pilots I've come across. In battle, the FC's know what they're doing and are accompanied by some of the best PvPers I've ever had watching my back.
With 500+ members I knew maybe 50 at most and only 10-15 on a personal level but I was never turned away when asking someone in corp a question or asking for help. Mitch and the rest of the directors have gone a long way to make DARK into a community based on solidarity where each link in the chain is just as important as the next, you live and die as a team.
One of DARK's many videos ends with the phrase, "Stop playing EVE and start living it". This is truly the corporation in which to do so.
It's with a sad heart that I have to say farewell to the corp that really made playing EVE fun. I'll be back someday so watch your mailbox for my app
