Apparently, the PIE boys fantasize over their teamspeak server while on ops, that I'm a big, fat glaswegian trucker driver that invites them individually back to my trailer to test the pressure on the tires

@first point: With a little imagination, it should be a breeze to enter as a hedonistic, carefree Gallente, or a cold, ruthlessly efficient Caldari. Ok, those are the corny clichÚ's, but hey, corny cliche's can make for some pretty fun RP 
But I think it is true that it is a little bit easier to add depth to Amarr, and (even more) Minmatar characters.

I try to stay in character at all times--definitely in my corp channel (it's a requirement--we don't OOC in corp at all), and even in public channels when dealing with people in local, etc.
Of course, we do have an OOC corp channel, as it makes it tons easier to ask and answer quick questions about the GUI, etc., and some people just will not play along if you're trying to RP a gear purchase or whatever, but generally I try to stay immersed if at all possible.
That said, I'm not big on what we used to call "thou shouting" in EQ. I play a straight-forward Minmatar character without any ties to ancient royalty or blah blah blah. I'm just a guy trying to make a living while sticking it to the Amarr Empire. I'm finding RP in Eve easier than in other games--I can curse, I can use slang, I can take a "screw that--no profit in it" attitude towards some things ... it's great.
You "RP is teh ghey suxx0r" fools don't know what you're missing.

I think true RPing in EVE was doomed from the start by the 3 characters per account. Even if you are trying to RP at your best, the minute anyone says "sure, lemee just log my alt" and disappears, another person comes in and carries on the conversation....
I know 1 guy who could do that well, and that was Hazara Khan/Ralimenua. He played it like they actually were 2 different ppl (main character and CEO alt).
The alt and 2nd account thing really get in the way of RP, and since they are really, really useful in the game, it has made RP seem kinda hollow to me.
And of course being able to pilot other races' ships hasn't helped RP either...

I think there are different levels of roleplaying, and you can get more people into it when they realize that they don't necessarily have to go "all the way".
When I first started playing I had big plans for how I was going to roleplay everything I did in the game, completely. All the "roleplay = ghey" types kind of burned me out on that, though. I've since slipped into a basic sort of "relaxed in-character" roleplay style. I keep Shin's character in mind and use that to influence how I act. When I "talk" to someone it's kind of an amalgam of Shin and myself. This works out pretty well because I don't have to worry about speaking in-character and how it'll be received by all the Joe Blows out there. Instead, I mostly try to keep my actions in character, instead. I do the same thing with my alts as well. They're all different characters with different motivations and ethics. They all get played differently.
I will roleplay more, though, if I'm talking to someone who also roleplays actively.
And, yes. I did score pretty high in the Geek Test...

You don't have to RP in this game if you don't want to. Mainly because you can be yourself and get by no problem.
Then again maybe "some" (not all) of the younger players who were not raised on paper based RPGs don't actually KNOW what role-playing is all about in our current digitally spoonfed culture.
Then for those of us who played GURPs, D&D, Star Frontiers, Warhammer, Shawdowrun and the like can really let our RP juices flow.

I find it kinda hard to roleplay in eve due to the amount of people that dont seem to be familiar with it.
I did some extensive Pen and Paper RP while in my teens and early 20's and still enjoy doing so when i get the chance at it. :)
In game i try to play out my view of the character. Always trying to be diplomatic and further the good relation between my corporation and others :)
And gaining some sort of profit from it of cource :)
