There was a bit of an ulterior motive, but this recent thread has a good introduction to PI.
This Fuzzworks website will help you find profitable items.
A suggestion is to get a few basic skills and put up a simple P1 planet as a trial run for a couple of weeks. It will help you when you are ready to start building more complex P2 / P3 chains.

It hasn't changed much in years. Other than the player-owned customs offices, I can't recall of a change to PI in the last 3 years, so any resource is probably still accurate, |

Yep I paid Sun-Tzu to write that to lower the price of Robotics, because my alliance uses a lot of blasters, and Robotics make up 30% of the cost of T2 blasters.
It will still help you learn PI and make ISK, you'll just make 7-8% less ISK that you would have when Robotics were a bit higher in price.
