Log off easy warp off = lame. Enough said.
Just figured I'd get people whining about this too (along with the warp to 0km).

Logging off to escape destruction is just plain bad form.
Getting destroyed in a fight you could have won (or escaped) due to a genuine computer crash is just plain lame.
Got a better idea where to draw the line, Hobbledehoy?

It's obviously cheating. The only reason CCP say it's a valid game tactic is because they don't have the balls to upset huge alliances that exploit this (and any other lame tactic) because they don't want to lose $$$.

That's just bad luck. Sometimes people are unlucky.

I do have to wonder, Awox, just how much ISK of loss you'd have to suffer for "bad luck" to turn into something much more worthy of violent cursing at CCP for not doing something to prevent the loss.
HAC? Dread? Titan?
... I can just imagine ASCN losing their Titan to BoB due to a computer crash. I can also imagine the row that would result on these forums.
As for logging off equating to cheating ... yeah, I basically agree. On the other hand, people exploit server lag issues to cause other players technical woes all the time, and that also strikes me as cheating. Further, since such manipulation can lead to server disconnect, not allowing a disconnected player to get away "free" leads to some very interesting, er, "tactics."
"Hi! Welcome back. While you were disconnected (due to lag we intentionally generated), we took the liberty of blowing up your 250 million ISK ship and 100 million worth of modules. Please deposit a further 200 million ISK, or all your implant are belong to us, in the sense that we'll vaporize them along with you and your pod."
So, again, where do you draw the line? CCP came down on the side of protecting the pilot under attack. I don't think that's quite right, but I can't think of a better solution offhand.

Actually Awox looses loads of stuff to "Bad Luck" we call it the Awox Effect
And I think the logoff (non-agressed) timer should be made a little bit longer. Just long enough for someone good enough to scan them down. That would solve most of the problems. In need of a new corp sig... :) |

The real problem is note "bestwoer pilot logged to save his pod", but rather it is that people are using login/logoff to win pvp battles. These guys should be banned!
For example, a few alliances, with a reputation of... dubious tactics, can produce the following via logon/logoff techniques.
1. El Chepo Logon Trap - Some guy acts as bait as as soon as he is agressed, 20+ people log in to attack the mark. The reason to do this is for cheap ganks and to get the mark to engage as he thinks he can get a kill.
2. Fleet sized logon traps, causing so much lag that the only defence is a logoffski. POS under attack? Fear no more - Cause the defenders so much lag that they cannot use any modules, meanwhile POS guns blow them away! Combine with lagstars, which are poses setup for maximum lag, and you have the lame tactics that are beginning to ruin the game.
3. Node Crashing. 100 players (add in 4 alts each, and its 25 players) constantly logging in and out to destabalise the node, thus ruining any assault upon the system.
Solution? Banning. And More Banning!

sorry if I'm late. I haven't played in 9 months so this struck me as a new thing.
But yes I do actually have better ideas. Not everything is as black and white as people picture it here. People could try thinking outside the box and coming up with a creative solution.
ie: say people cannot be targetted AFTER log off, but for people already targetted they can't escape simply because they didn't agress. Also, bubbles should straight up catch everything, log off or not. What person in their right mind thinks they had much chance of survival even if they were piloting their ship through a bubble gate camp?
You can say "what if ____" all day about losing big ships due to losing your connection to justify it.But since I see it being used 99% of the time as an exploit where people voluntarily log off to escape, I call this "feature" what it is de facto: an developer-assisted exploit.

A macro in a covetor last night tried to log off on me.
I nabbed him in my own covetor, with 5 alcolyte II drones. Bugger took down 29% of my armor before all his drones were dead, or well all but one.
He gave me 2 Strip Miners, then 5M after for 'Mining lasers' which was a can with Miner IIs in it. Bleh. Stupid macros ___________________ I love you -Cortes I love him more -Suvetar I love him the most -Oveur Back off he's mine. All Mine --Eris

A true story for ya all.
Was in 0.0 space to increase my sec status in my Domi. Although i were ratting there i had my pvp fitting. So, when i get bored i travel around a bit and look for targets. And then i noticed that there is one system nearby with 1 pilot active in last 30 minutes. I decide to head there and check it out.
When i get there i warp to planet and scan belts - ferox on scan. i narrow him down but by the time i start warping he is gone from that belt, soon after that he disappears from scan at all. well i decided that it was not worth my time and headed further.
When going back i noticed the same pilot in the same system and tried to catch him again. this time noticed how he warped from one belt to another and then disappeared. safespotted i thought. but as i noticed which belt he cleaned and where he wanted to go i had a new plan in mind.
i went to next system and quickly returned. as soon as i jumped in i headed for belt which should be next in his route. He wasnt there. But i managed to locate him fast, he was in a belt. warped there as fast as possible with big, fat domi and while warping there i noticed that he left local. ****, loggoffski! but his ship was still there, i come out of warp expecting his ship to warp away any second. but that didnt happen. i lock him, scramble, web and start pounding him with my drones. he is going down! he even logs in for a second and does one more logoffski short time after that.
I was a bit confused, why his logoffski didnt work. when his ship hit structure i finally understood... i noticed some very sweet thing - a lovely npc frigate scrambling my dear ferox pilot. He logged but npc had him scrambled. This pilot was very careful, safespotted and cloaked (had proto cloak on his ferox) as soon as any hostile pilot entered system. And he used logoffski... I am really glad i was able to punish him (with little arch angel frig help) for using such lame tactics. Hope he will enjoy looking at his pod and thinking ftw happened. ____________________
