I remember seeing the initial hp increase plan there was the part how much NPC's get their hp's upped.
So is such a chainge in effect on the test server? If so are the bounties increased acordingly? Id actually like to get a dev response what are they planing to do regarding hp & npc's .
Thanks

I cry every time I want to do a lvl4 mission - I have to devote about 2-3hrs for a typical "normal" mission to complete it, and upwards of 5hrs to complete something like Gurista Extraviganza.
I suppose if my skills were higher (say in like 3 months!) I might be able to cut an hour off those times, but we're bordering on "kinda nuts". I solo my missions because I very rarely ever have friends to help me out (and I don't always need help), but having to allocate 3hrs of my day to do a single mission is pretty insane - not to mention when the payout including bounties is merely 3-4mil, with loot perhaps adding another 1-3mil on that give/take.
In fact, the payout from missions is actually pretty crappy compared to going out to 0.0 and ratting. It'd be nice of noob corps could own parts of 0.0, just like player corps could (I happen to like being in my noob corp and running solo - it's how I play all types of games - I don't like to have to be dependant on others), but that's a discussion for another time.
In short, please don't cause missions to run any longer than they already do - I'd rather not have to book an entire day off just to do a single mission! In fact, I hope missions take even less time! Lvl3 missions are about right on timing - they're OK, but lvl4's are just too long (and I'll probably cringe when lvl5's come out - should I just call in sick to work for a few days?).

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 06/11/2006 10:21:24 Edited by: Ishina Fel on 06/11/2006 10:19:49 Indeed. Mission running is not difficult. You are hardly ever in a position to lose your tank. No, instead you slowly chew through the many many subsequent waves and groups of enemies. Sometimes the biggest challenge is fitting enough ammunition in your cargo hold to last a full mission. Besides, I also find it highly unrealistic how I alone in a single ship can chew through a hundred million worth in ships in every average level 3 mission, possibly crewed by hundreds of people. Realistically, one or two such strikes would seriously wound any organization on the butt end of them, yet thousands of players do it on a hourly basis. Not to mention that CONCORD's gotta be bankrupt twice over from having to pay all those bounties.
Therefore: more dangerous groups, but less ships to mindlessly chew through! The l3 mission 'Rogue Slave Trader' part 2 is a great example of how a mission should be: after clearing the gateway, you warp in and you have to freaking fight for your dear life even in a decently fitted BC - but after you win there, it's over, and you get your deserved reward. 'Pirate Invasion' on the other hand is an example of how it should /not/ be. Gawd that one is long and boring, maybe with the exception of the last two groups in the final room (10+ CR, followed by 3 BC + 5 CR).
And most of all: don't increase NPC HP! Up their DPS by 50%, then you have compensated they player's HP boost without making running a mission an affair you have to plan half a day for. NPC dps sucks massively compared to players anyway, they can use the boost.

That wouldnt fix anything, itll just make nps much harder to tank.
Missions need an overhaul tbh, instead of fighting 20 battleships, 50 cruisers and 25 frigates i wont to fight 1 bs and 4 cruisers, all of which have player like stats so that the mission would actually be difficult.
Plus the huge amounts of npcs we have in current missions screws up my fps. -----

an NPC DPS boost with 50% would seriously hurt 0.0 mining, what will people need to tank the spawn in? A carrier? And what about complexes? I don't see many people running a 10/10 with a 50% DPS boost for rats.
And aside from that, I don't think a HP boost or DPS boost for NPCs is needed. If you die its because your tank fails generally while you are scrambled, a 50% HP boost for players only extends the time a bit where you can get help or kill off scrambling ships, and doesn't increase revenue from ratting in any way.
Just leave NPCs as they are now on TQ.

Remember that players tank (rep rate) has not increased - its just the size of their buffer.
In other words if the NPCs were breaknig your tank before they are now - you just have a bit longer to kill some of them/get the hell out before dying.
Having said that I would like to see a shift towards fewer harder NPCs in missions.
(But 4 hours for an extravaganza? I know when I first started they took that long but these days I can't think of any mission that takes me much over an hour)

Most points in here are moot. NPCs are stupid, and as such they'll nearly always be easy to defeat.
Some of those rats actually have player-like stats, but since they are stupid they're easy. - Am I in the coolest alliance or what? |

Edited by: Kamen on 06/11/2006 14:05:11 I suggest to make NPCs tougher but make them more Player-like in further expansions: 1) Cut the number of NPCs. 2) Be able to jam them 3) NPCs don't shoot missles from 70km. 4) NPCs don't snipe from 100km doing full damage and having a full tank 5) Add sniper/gank NPCs and allow the player to beat their numbers with tactical advantage. 6) Forgot to nerf Gurista NPCs' ECM? A Dire Gurista Moa hull can tank like a ***** and Jam like a Black Bird for 300k bounty! Where are Black Bird jamming platforms in belts and missions?

2) They are jammable 3) Players shoot missiles from 70km... ok, not all of them. 4) They don't. They do. Well, they don't change to better ammunition when you get closer to them. 5) There are those kinds of NPCs, except for the low-tank NPCs, of course. - Am I in the coolest alliance or what? |
