Originally by: murder one I've tried just about every config imaginable. IMO this setup is the best for battleships. Don't know about smaller ships, but for BS sized, this is the best.
Reasoning: with small guns you can fit 3x damage mods and still have enough grid to fit all the guns. Normally you end up running low on CPU and not grid with the smallest T2 guns of your choice, so adding 3x damage mods and simply increasing grid consumption isn't a problem. You now have the equivilant of 3 more lows added to yoursetup, without sacrificing your tank.
If you fit slightly larger guns, you can't use damage mods without resorting to fitting mods as well just to stuff the guns on there due to the huge grid requirements. So this makes you waste your low slots on damage mods, or forgo damage mods all together, in which case you're actually doing less DPS with the larger guns than you are with the smaller guns and the damage mods.
You can fit 8x Heavy Beam II on an apoc as well. The same on the Mega (7x 250mm II) and i bet on the rokh it's gonna work, too. So you don't need to go down to smalls. But i see your point of using undersized weapons. Even nowadays, Med Guns are very often more usefull than large on BS.

One quick note on EW: with the combined new strength bonuses on the EW ships, the EW strength rigs *AND* the new EW low slot strength mods, EW is more powerful than ever. It's ridiculous.
Already thought this by myself. They don't nerf nos and boost my beloved ewar. Glory to the emperor! (with caldari ships...)

On a more amusing note: I fit a Celestis with 3x damp rigs, 3x best named damps and have Gal Cruiser at 4. I damped a Typhoon from 72km to 4800m lock range and a sensor res of NINE lol. Adding a 4th damp didn't make hardly any difference at all. Something like 4300m vs 4800m. I have signal supression skill at ONE, so there's plenty of room for skilling and improving the performance further, as well as skilling up cruiser 5 for an additional 10-20% or whatever the bonus is for damp effectiveness.
Hm interesting. Currently, i could damp it down from 72 to around 5km. After Kali, with those rigs, it will be what? 3km? Glory to the emperor! (with celestis hull ships, if the caldari ones are out for maintenance...)

Originally by: Shayla Sh'inlux Too bad it's still nowhere near as efficient as ECM.
Damps should slow down a lock in progress instead of just reducing range. Then there's the inherent flaw of the close range race getting Damps as racial EW...
In many situations, it is even more efficient than ECM. 100% chance to completey hinder an enemy of any race from locking anything beyond ultra close range.
Except, and there i agree to your point of course, if you want go into extreme close range yourself. Pretty clumsy that blasters and dampeners are combined in the same race. On the other hand it's maybe for good balance.
If scorp had a 20% range and 5% strength bonus to dampeners, it would be even more imba than ECM is today. -- This game is still in beta stage |
