my reason for asking this is cos i meet a issue after installing the new revelations patch and it messed up my firewall / antivirus / search function on winxp
error msgs
the picture linked is the double error i got after rebooting my pc after installing revelations. so i decided to search for the file and see if i could locate it in any other folders / recycle bin and the following image is what happened when trying to use the search function on win xp
search error
considering the pc wasnt on even 30 mins and that im very careful with what i download, which i always reboot my pc before installing anything new, its very odd that i soon met with this after installing revelations and rebooting my pc to test it.

Avast! picked up the RedistD3DXOnly.exe as being infected with Win32:Trojan-gen when I tried to install. I assume that it's a recognition error and that there is no trojan there... but I'm leaving it in the virus chest none the less.

MSVCP71.DLL is part of the Visual Studio .NET development suite for C++ version 7.1 and is also used to interface with DirectX 9 and up.
If any parts of Kali were written using Visual C++ 7, this and a host of other DLLs will be required to run the program since they have the capability of using the .NET framework and managed code to take advantage of the newer DirectX 9 and 10 features.
It doesn't seem that CCP used any managed code though or everyone would need the .NET framework to run Eve which doesn't seem to be the case.
Anyhow, if they plan on opening Eve up to the latest DirectX technologies in the future then that's probably why they've started using the newest VS development tools. It's easier to port from VS7 non-managed code to VS7 managed code than it is from any of the VS6 and lower languages.

Hmmm... Now that you mention it, I've had the same problem since I installed the patch.
I guess it's time to reinstall the .Net 1.1 framwork.

You may want to go with .NET 2.0, it's the most recent.

OK, got this problem fixed for me...
I copied the missing msvc*71 files from my TQ EVE folder into my antivirus folder, and that's working for me now.
Devs: Can you please make it so that when your test patches are applied with VC8 redistributables, they don't bork existing VC7.1 software?
