Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed that, as of the Revelations patch to Singularity, that screenshots are now taken at .bmp's rather than the .png's that are currently found on Tranquility.
Seems odd to me that CCP would make this change given the fact that .bmp's are roughly 6 times the size of a .png file, without any noticable increase in quality.

I now have a reason for my 250 gig HD
Originally by: Dwight Hammerhead . Just because Kali is already in testing. If CCP were actually concerned about what ppl think they would of opened it up for discussion.

PNG takes a bit more time to compress to file than BMP which means a bit longer delay when pushing Print Screen. Dunno if that's the reason but it could be.

iirc they were BMPs before exodus. Was pretty annoying back then to batch convert them from time to time.
I have not the fastest machine (actually 1 eve client + TS runs just about acceptable) and i don't notice any mentionable long wait time for taking one screenshot.
I regularly take some during pvp, even POS fights.
But anyway. If they change it back to the worse, it won't kill me to start batching from time to time. Although logic is another thing... -- This game is still in beta stage |

Personally I'd rather have a slight delay when taking a screenshot with a smaller compressed file. I'm not fond of huge file since I'm trigger happy when taking screenshots. I really hope Kali stores the screenshots as .PNG or something that's not 7 megs per (res 1600x1200). |

I, unlike everyone else in the world, do not have much room on my 40gb notebook harddrive. This is extremely bad news for me.
Please, leave them as .PNG
I'd rather not move everything to the external drive after every few 1400x1050 shots.

I prefer .png format, but .bmp can be converted to .png. What bothers me is that the default is .jpg, which is lossy compression. Once the information is gone, it's gone, so the default should be .bmp. (I tested this on SiSi just a few minutes ago, 1721 EVE time.)
Also, the high quality option doesn't seem to apply to "Capture Portrait". After getting a screenshot in .bmp, I got a portrait in .jpg.
I don't think this can be for the purpose of saving time, because it takes just as long as the .png screenshots used to take.

It's now .jpg by default, with an option to use .bmp.
.png ftw tbh.
