Just a small suggestion. When doing the big update of EVE to Kali, I'd suggest that CCP remove ALL anchored containers in space, and place them in their owners hangar. A few people might cry, but it'll clean a hell of a mess.
To avoid it getting bad again, CCP may want to consider: 1. Can's can not be anchored in the same grid as gates. 2. Can's unanchor after a set period unless being 'refreshed'

ha, i had a stroke of genius
charge ppl for anchoring cans(like bills for renting labs - installation cost plus monthly/daily fee) - not a lot but enough to stop ppl creating belts of cans rather then roids.
Who's with me ?
p.s. prolly im not the first one to propose that

Actually, I like the concept of charging players for anchoring items (especially in Empire space).
POS's, can's, etc ... if you anchor it, 'rent' should be deducted from your account.
But there are other solutions to can's, I'm sure.

CCP should definatley do something about anchored cans. Been an ongoing issue for years apparently, Kali is the best time to do it.

Moving anchored (and presumably unanchored) cans to the owner's hanger sounds simple enough - and were the "Warp to 0" function to be included and BMs mass deleted it would make sense (safespot cans being annoyingly difficult to find without the safespot BM) and it would work well enough in Empire... But consider 0.0 - you have a guerilla can anchored in a system where an enemy force now controls a station which was once yours, you have a few things in the station but no docking rights. If the can is moved to that hanger then you're a little put out to say the least...

You know I agree, let them move all ancored cans to the owners hangar. at whatever station he is docked. because I have a can with 500 mill worth of stuff deep in 0.0. It would mean I dont have to travel there and risk bringing it back, I am in Empire right now.

They just need to create a timer from last usage of the container. If it hasnt been used in 3 months, it unachors and can be taken by anyone. Start the time with kali release and there will be deep space salvage operations among players that will fix the problem in no time.

i totally agree, all these cans should be removed, their must be 1000s in Jita and 1000s across hundreds of systems that dont even get used anymore, that people have forgot about.
I know i have at least 15 i have forgot about.
If each player in eve had 10 cans they forgot about that is 200,000 cans, randomly anchored in space, never gonna get used again.

How about making cans that are empty for more than 2 weeks destroyable without getting concorded. ------------- Cadet Lithalnas - Logistics Division - Hadean Drive Yards

Its simple enough if they just remove all anchored cans in 0.5 and above. Have you seen the belts of most of those systems? theres more cans than roids. Go to 0.4 and lower and suddenly its all clean again. ----------- Turbulance |

this idea is acceptible as CCP have said with the new scanning potential u can now find hidden sec cans as well ( that means those hostile ones in 0.0 can be found and blwon up) but unanchoring after 6-12 weeks sounds like a good idea to

There's a can sitting in first belt in Vale that belongs to a character that I deleted in October 2004, seems rather silly to me.
My personal thoughts are as follows:
Unanchor after 3 months without being used/opened/renamed by the owner. Pop like jet cans after 1 month of automiatically unanchoring. During some long downtime (Kali implementation, whatever) remove all cans that have not been touched in 6 months from the game entirely, and start counting down on the rest as if they were anchored that day (to give people time to do what they will with the ones they have neglected).
