I know not what these strange writings are about, but I have seen a few Amarr names about and to you I say death to the Amarr and Freedom to oppressed Minmatar !!!!
P.s. On topic I would rather hear people RP in 'old english' than in the 'new' english using words like 'pwned' ect. The ones that run around saying pwned all the time are the bigger nerds 'cos they actualy think there hip and cool

Edited by: Illifae on 09/11/2006 08:45:02 Yeah, let's all RP in local.
RPer "Amarr are imperialist nutjobs" nINJApIRATE "rolplayer? LOL GHEY!" bob1 "Fagot!" tardass "u fat homo!"
...etc.
As for how Amarr speak, you might want to read the backstory Roxanna. See if you look at the tab to your left, there's one called "Backstory".
Besides, they took the space, they can do what the hell they want with it, you don't like it throw them out.
Maybe they mistook you for a RPer 'cause your char name isn't "NuYorkYankees" or something. Maybe you should start a new character? Or quit eve?
Can I have your stuff?

Role player: Pirate scum why do you defile *** space with your presence. Do you wish death upon yourselves? Do you wish to feel the cleansing light of god? I thought you blasphemers beyond redemption? Why do you bring yourselves to this land?
Which part of this is ancient English? I don't see any thee and thous. Or is anything thats not 'wtf ftw' considered ancient English?
Secondly, roleplayers don't speak in ancient English all the time. I been in the roleplay community for 2 years+ in Eve and have yet to see that.
(agree with you on the 'land' part but thats just nit picking)

Sounds quite interesting definition for roleplaying; probably not too useful one in the context here. Or, dooes one automatically roleplay a queen when he moves her across a chestboard?
In my observations most of the actual roleplaying in Eve happens inside corps, and it is not really targeted to be enjoyed by outsiders.
Those who get irritated by some variant of roleplaying in local can just use the same tactics as roleplayrs will use: learning to ignore the elements that do not fit in their desired scope.

Next time you go to work/school start telling all your buddies about EVE. Go into a little detail, maybe talk about POS wars or how much work is required to build a Titan - or even about how realistic and fantastic the EVE market is - and just watch them back away giving you strange looks (unless of course they are also nerds themselves)
It's my experience from being in an RP alliance for the past three years that (at least in EVE) the RPers are among the most gregarious, fun-loving, drunken lunatics playing this game and - I have the photos to prove it.
As for the 'olde English' accents thing don't you think we just sit there chuckling while the Burn Eden member scratches his head and tries to come up with a response to the confusing smack
I am not ashamed to say it. I am an EVE roleplayer and proud of it.

*cough* Anyway, Burn Eden are hilarious in their own way but let's not get into details. /emote worships SATAN*
To be honest i haven't seen anyone talk in "ancient english", and that, my friend, is just zealous Amarr RPers, nothing to do with ancient english, it's actually very much normal.
On another note, I'm really and i mean ~really~ tired of the same old recycled sentences every day, again and again. "Bow down before your Amarr masters" " This place belongs to the Amarr empire" and on the other side "Get out of here slavers, we're free" ~whatever. It just gets boring after a while, and those that talk to me in local know it. Yeah, i actually RPd with you BE guys in local too, bet you didn't guess that.
But then again the occasional Gallente or Caldari saying "Bow down before us, we Amarr are here to teach you" or somesuch thing really cheers me up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I be needin' some sig love. *sigh* |

even though it's not interested me enough personally to put a lot of effort into it, I think roleplay does add another diminsion to eve in terms of getting immersed in the game...blue vs red is fun and all, but having an actual reason for fighting besides smacktalk kinda, I dunno, adds to the longevity I guess.
I think the problem comes in when people playing see other players roleplaying and think they actually believe what they're saying in real life. They don't Provided you keep in mind they know they're playing a game as much as you do, they're just better at pretending they aren't while they're playing it, it's not weird at all
as for the nerd thing, I agree with some of the earlier posters...we're in an online forum for a massively multiplayer online game in a thread about roleplaying. pot, kettle, black __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus |

Though I hate old English on there too. More fitting there than here, I suppose. We should be talking like Tron..Yeah..Tron.

There is a simple, yet somewhat sublte, thing that you seem to misunderstand.
When you go into amarr space and they get all preachy on you, it's not you they are trying to convert to an in game religion. It's Roxanna Kell's soul they are trying to save by bringing her to God's light. I certainly hope they don't follow the amarrian religion IRL 'cause they'd be in a lot of trouble. *Amarr player gets arrested. Amarr player: Anything wrong officer? Police: License and registration plea... why do you have a person in shackles on your back seat? Amarr player: Oh, he's just one of my slaves. I'm bringing him back to god's will. Police: Huh.. slave? He looks in pretty bad shape. Did you do that to him? Amarr player: Well, I must cleanse his corrupt soul through the fires of God's light! Besides, they a little more than animals, right? Police: Please step out of the car, sir. Amarr player: *takes out a flashlight* PEW-PEW AMARR VICTOR!!! *car runs off with police in pursuit*
Of course you are her and she is you but from a RP point of view, you are different persons... or you could be if you decided to RP it up a bit. You, sitting at your desk in front of the computer, are simply breathing life into the entity that is Roxanna.

I much prefer the local smack by CVA (something about cleaning our system with holy lasers or something) then to have some leet-speeking idiot without a sense of humor smacking me.
As for my RP: I choose to fashion myself after a bloodsucking murdering lunatic, and slowly but surely, I'm growing in the role.

Because some people are morons. It doesn't matter that a game is set in space, set in a cyberpunk world, set in some zany arse totally freaking weird dreamt up during an acid trip sci-fi world.
You'll get idiots who equate roleplaying with Shakespearean English.
But I'm speaking more of the people who run around shouting 'thee' and 'thou. You seem to be talking about a perfectly cromulent segment of EVE's RP community: The Amarr.
Originally by: Roxanna Kell Pirate scum why do you defile *** space with your presence. Do you wish death upon yourselves? Do you wish to feel the cleansing light of god? I thought you blasphemers beyond redemption? Why do you bring yourselves to this land?
weird ain't it? first of all, LAND? we re not here for land, neither are we on one. GOD? in evE?
While I'd personally snicker at the land thing (When did CCP add in planetary flight? ), try reading some of the chronicles.
We're Amarr; we have sticks up our arses, and we're coming to reclaim you, you pathetic, godless, snivelling heretics.
There's a world of difference between that and people who think that future humans will speak in Shakespearean; hell, it's the 21st century and nobody but strange theatrical folk speak Shakespearean today. "If God be for us, whom can be against us?" |
