why do role players speak in a very ancient English all the time?
I went to *** space, recently, i guess you know were iam about to say.
Role player: Pirate scum why do you defile *** space with your
presence. Do you wish death upon yourselves? Do you wish to
feel the cleansing light of god? I thought you blasphemers
beyond redemption? Why do you bring yourselves to this land?
weird ain't it? first of all, LAND? we re not here for land, neither are we on one.
GOD? in evE? /emote bows to TUX, some worship oveur, but to each his own.
oh well, i don't mind them role playing, as long as they don't spam local with conversion speech.
at the end after 10 minutes of garbles.
Roleplayer2: It is useless to speak to them Brother ****.
They are but jesters, lost in their own perceived wit. Hardly
worth the effort of conversion.

If they want to RP in 'ye olde englishe, then leave them to it - you don't HAVE to read it if you don't want to.
They RP, you don't so do your thing while they do theirs, simple really.

But thinking of it .. unless it is a speech thing.. we're all roleplaying ingame by being pod pilots and fleet fighting, and taking part in Alliance schemes .. all role playing !!

That would be the Amarrian God he was referring to. You know the "go out into the void and reclaim all in his name" one.
Some RPers talk different IC, some don't. Personally I rarely talk IC in game but if I do I just talk normally. My RP is more about why I do stuff in game and the short stories I write around it all.
Horses for courses I guess, all adds a bit of colour to game I reckon. If you don't like it block them, ignore them or close local. Simple really.

You roleplay yourself? How is that possible since you can't really fly a spaceship or have implants that allow you to be plugged in to a pod.
Anyway, some people like to actually immerse themselves more in the game universe that we all create. Some people take more enjoyment in story telling then epeen measuring, or perhaps measure their epeen differently. To each his own. Amarrian rpers speak in certain ways traditional to their collective style. If you don't like it, don't pay attention. Just like they tend not to pay attention to the player styles they don't like.

also: the example you gave there hardly qualifies as ancient english.

Funny you should say that. When the OP mentioned ancient English it brought back memories of studying Chaucer's Cantebury Tales in their original form. It's barely recognisable as anything related to modern English. Very Germanic and confusing, a lot like Zoolkhan's poetry (now that is something you do not want to see in local).
I always found it fascinating that a language could change so much in what is really a very short period of time.
I have wandered way off the point, I should through something relevant in.... um.....
Think of Eve like watching a movie. You pay your money and sit in front of the screen.
You can choose to admire the special effects, stare at the back of somebody elses head, wonder why your seat is so uncomfortable and try to remember the name of that actor. You can chuckle when bits of the set wobble and you can groan about how it's unrealistic to jump that BMW off that bridge and not have all it's wheels fly off when it lands.
You could instead ignore the wobbly set, forget who these actors are and just enjoy the movie. Let the story wash over you and get a couple of hours harmless escapism from the mundane world for your money. Just ignore the figgity guy who keeps staring at the back of your head and try not to get taco on your Starfleet uniform.

I haven't met any roleplayers in EVE yet, nor ever seen one post 
Now I'm gonna assume that atleast one person is going to say some VARIATION of "Duhhh, intergalactic summit n00b!" and tell me that there are roleplayers in EVE....

I'm sorry I have yet to see a decent RP session happen anywhere, where you actually take the time and effort to RP what you do, all the way down to controlling your ship, having a RP conversation in local or something - I mean what I wouldn't give to see a really creative RP session in just one solar system, done to the MAX..you know..creativeness on what you're doing, and how you're operating your ship etc etc..EVEN IF IT GOES OUTSIDE WHATS ACTUALLY HAPPENING GAME MECHANIC WISE...but no one does that.
If that sort of RP existed, I'd go back to being an RP'er instead of a pirate..but..since it doesnt... YARR!!

More like how you can control it in SWG when Jump to Lightspeed came out..You could use keyboard and mouse to move around..Our a gamepad..Or one of those flight simulator sticks..Complete control of the ship..You shot your guns by pressing a button..Everytime you pressed the button it fired 1 shot..Etc. Stuff that brings you into the space part of the game..Basically..
Atleast thats what I think he meants, and what I would love to see in Eve..Though it probably won't happen..

What I meant might sound silly to some, is that you basically describe in RP terms what you're doing..I don't know..maybe I just spent too much of my early RP years in IRC and D&D sessions.
You know *So and so person does so and so with their ship for whatever reason* in a creative RP text while also actually doing it.

They do happen i have had one or two with CVA . As for real RP with our ships... does suicide smartbombing terrorists at an amarr rally count? If so then we were ther blowing our selves up for an ideal and in character.
as an oldschooll RPer from back in the 80's who continued right through to now i can see waht you mean. There is a lack of good RP and some of it ends up being nothing more than saying the same old tired lines folowed by f1-8. We could use more real RP, more pirates like the late Veron, who still RP's but i miss his pirate ways :P
If you want to see more real RP make it happen there are plenty of people who dont even know they like RP till they start doing it. My roommate is a perfect example, he never thought much of RP till he went on a few raids with me and then all of a sudden he was like... **** this is the 3rd dimension of the game i was missing!
Bring the RP to the people and they will respond.

I always put the thee and thou stuff down to being thats how the Amarr talk. It is a bit of a stretch in a sci-fi game though but I'll overlook it
What gets me in Eve but especially fantasy / D&D RP is how polite everyone is when they RP. Hearing some cutthroat rogue talking like he was working for the BBC blows my mind.
I always go for the down to earth, common as **** rogue type and talk like it. If you eva run inta an 'alfling by the name Eddie Watchdodger it was more an' like me, so check yer coin once I'm well gone.
