I don't think that you see what makes EVE so more special than any other game...
- It's big. period.
- All players begin, and always will be, on the same footing. Thanks to the great skill system, which allows casual players to keep up with 24/7 gamers, with the latter group still reaping the benefits of their style of play.
- Player owned structures aren't like any other player owned structures in any game. They require a lot more than a builder's stamp and a region code.... They actually make a difference in the game instead of being some landmark in a region somewhere.
There are many more reasons why EVE is so magnificent. And Ulendar: How come you are so stupid to compare 2 totally different games with each other? That would be like comparing Quake 3 with Railroad Tycoon..... Sorry, but that doesn't speak in favor of reliability of your arguments.
The only other game that can remotely be compared to EVE is Earth & Beyond, but that game is far more limited and short-termed than EVE, for obvious reasons. act is, EVE is the only game of it's kind.
Comparing it to other games, especially eq/uo, is a grave mistake by itself. Please realise that those games have been online since quite a few years, and they too have developed from lousy beta's to the (yes let's face it) great games in their own right.
Why everone says that EVE is boring kind of escapes me... It's the most varied game in existence. What's EQ about? Hack and slash... Hack and slash... and more of it. UO? The same.... SWG? Yeah right.
Fact is that EVE is one of the best games on the market at this time. Yes it is bugged, but name one game which isn't.... EACH and EVERY game that has ever been produced has bugs/exploits/whatever mistakes in them, and I don't see much people complaining about the bugs in the other large mmorpg's.... Fact still remains that at the moment, not a single game can reach the diversity that EVE offers.
I think that the biggest problem is the largely player driven politics and economy... Players tend to think that everything is being arranged for them. No one said EVE is an easy game.
Corporations like PIE are one of the better examples of how this game should be played, as are (in less extent however) Oracle and some unnamed pirate corps, EVE guardian etc. ...
But I think I'm getting a bit off topic here.
Point is that EVE is a game to be played, and we'll have to wait for the better stuff to appear. People who say otherwise are just a bunch of whiners who want everything and want it now...
I hope I made some sense in the above post... When I get into moods like this my ramblings tend to be quite unreadable or ununderstandable :P
